Abstract

Occupational diseases can be caused by several factors of work and environmental conditions of workers. Poor environmental conditions and worker behavior are some of the triggers for the emergence of dermatitis in workers. Contact dermatitis in chicken farm workers can be caused by exposure to chemicals from animal feed. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the occurrence of dermatitis in chicken farmworkers. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study was a total sample of 35 people. The results showed that there was no relationship between the use of personal protective equipment, working period, and personal hygiene with the appearance of symptoms of dermatitis in workers. However, this study found that workers who have worked for more than 12 months and practice good personal hygiene tend to avoid symptoms of dermatitis. This study provides a recommendation that the longer a person has worked, personal hygiene improvement needs to be done to avoid dermatitis.

Abstract

As many as 27% of female adolescents in developing countries suffer from anemia. Anemia can have a big impact on the health of young women, especially pregnant women. The problem of anemia in adolescents needs to be overcome because teenagers will become pregnant women who of course need a healthy body more later. One effort is to take iron (Fe) supplements. This study aims to analyze the risk factors for attitudes and side effects of Fe tablets on the consumption of Fe tablets in female adolescents in high school. This study used a case-control study design. The population of this study was all young women who received Fe tablets at SMA Negeri 10 Kendari with a total of 85 students who were held from February 2020 to completion. The sample consisted of 40 people, namely 20 cases and 20 controls, the sampling technique was simple random sampling. The results showed that attitude is a risk factor for consuming Fe tablets, obtained OR = 6,000 (95% CI 1.458-24.686) and side effects of Fe tablets are a risk factor for consuming Fe tablets, the value of OR = 5.571 (95% CI 1.420-21.860) was obtained. It is necessary to increase communication, education, and information (IEC) in schoolchildren to increase positive attitudes and reduce the number of complaints of side effects of Fe tablets in school children.

Abstract

Household garbage collectors are one of the groups who are at risk of getting dermatitis due to their work. This study aims to determine the relationship between the length of service and the use of long-sleeved work clothes and gloves with dermatitis on the household garbage collector in Surakarta. This was an observational analytic study using a cross-sectional study. The subjects of the study were household garbage collector in Jebres sub-district, Surakarta. A total of 134 respondents was recruited as samples using simple random sampling. A questionnaire sheet was used to collect individual data and dermatitis status was determined by the doctor’s diagnosis. A Chi-square test was used to investigate the relationship between the length of service and the use of long-sleeved work clothes and gloves with dermatitis. Logistic regression was used to determine factors associated with dermatitis. There was a significant relationship between the length of service with dermatitis p=0.000 (p<0.05). There was also a significant relationship between long-sleeve work clothes and gloves with dermatitis p=0.003 (p<0.05). The multivariable test showed that workers with a long length of service had a higher risk of having dermatitis compared to a short length of service (OR=6,701, p=0.000). It was also showed that more frequent use of long-sleeved work clothes intensity reduces the risk of getting dermatitis compared to sometimes use (OR=0.341, p=0.017). There is a significant association between the length of work and the use of long-sleeved work clothes and gloves with dermatitis on household garbage collectors in Surakarta.

Abstract

Stunting can be a nutritional problem that will adversely affect the optimal development process of children according to their genetic potential. Stunting can hinder the process of growth and development in under-fives. This study aimed to determine the causes of stunting in under-fives in the Abeli sub-district, Kendari City. The method of study was descriptive qualitative by a case study design. Data obtained through in-depth interviews of 4 (four) key informants and 5 (five) ordinary informants. Based on the results of the study, it was known that the incidence of stunting in the Abeli sub-district was caused by low birth weight, exclusive breastfeeding, and complementary feeding. It was based on the results of interviews, of four under-fives were stunting, there were three under-fives had a birth weight <2500 grams. The reason was because of inadequate breast milk production and a lack of family support for mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding to under-fives. The reason was that the mother did not carry out routine pregnancy checks so that the condition of the fetus was poorly monitored. Besides, all under-fives who were stunting did not receive exclusive breastfeeding. In giving complementary feeding, the mothers gave complementary feeding to under-fives too early. Besides, a portion of the meal did not meet the needs of under-fives and less varied food.
