Abstract

Character strength becomes a major issue in positive psychology research. In the positive psychology, the thing that takes precedence is how to make individuals with all their potential better and develop as optimally as possible. Students who excel are individuals with high achievement motivation, strive to determine specifics goals, use strategic steps, are high-willed, and always work hard to achieve the goals and objectives set. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Career Happiness Plan training to improve character strength (virtue) as working capital for students. The subjects in this study were 54 students of the Faculty of Psychology, Diponegoro University. Using random assignment technique, subjects were divided into two groups, which consisted of 27 students in the experimental group (8 males; 19 females) and 27 students in the control group (10 males; 17 females). Data were collected through The Values in Action-Inventory of Strenghts (VIA-IS). The results of the t-test on the posttest data between the experimental group and the control group showed a significant difference (t = 2.113; df = 52; p = .039; p <.05). The experimental group had a higher positive character level (M = 487.78; SD = 38.41) than the control group (M = 462.11; SD = 50.07). This explains that the research hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, Career Happiness Plan training can be used to improve character strength (virtue) in students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation of anger to the quality of life of people who experience psychosomatic. negative emotions may cause psychosomatic disorders, including anger. These emotions affect the neurological working mechanism that activates an excessive number of neural, neuroendocrine and endocrine and attack the individuals weakest organs. By using non-probability sampling of purposive sampling type, the research was conducted on 106 college student of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung who experienced the psychosomatic disorder, based on the screening result of inventory to detect the psychosomatic disorder. The data were obtained through two scales : State-trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 (STAXI-2) (51 items; α= .819), and the quality of life scale of WHO that has been adapted (52 items; α= .863). The data were analyzed with simple linear regression test. The results show that anger has a significant correlation to the quality of life of people who experience psychosomatic, F(1, 104) = 6.063; p = .015. As the anger getting higher, quality of life on an individual who experiences psychosomatic would be getting lower, β = -.235; p = .015.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of PEDE training (Forgiveness, Self-Efficacy, and Empathy) to increase school well-being of students. The experimental design of this study was pretest-posttest without control group design. Participants were 50 students from vocational high schools, 21 man and 29 woman. Data were collected using School Well-Being Scale (20 items; α = .81). Data were analyzed using paired sample t-test to determine the differences in the level of school well-being before and after treatment. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in school well-being (t (49)= 3.904; p <.001) from pretest (M= 60.98; SD= 4.162) to posttest (M= 63.28; SD=4.291). PEDE training (Forgiveness, Self-Efficacy, and Empathy) is proven to increase school well-being of students. Forgiveness is needed by students in facing the weaknesses and pressures they feel at school, pressure can come from within themselves, other people and the environment. Student satisfaction is inseparable from empathy, where students are able to understand and relate to cognitive and affective experiences from the perspective of others. With the various pressures and challenges faced, students need the self-efficacy to be able to succeed in achieving each of their goals, so that they receive recognition and appreciation in the school environment.

Abstract

Disruptive behavior according to DSM 5 is a pattern of behavior that violates the rights of others, aggression, property destruction and or that leads individuals to experience significant conflicts with violations of social norms or authority figures. This study aims to examine the significance of two factors derived from the family towards the emergence of disruptive behavior that are the family expressed emotion and perceived of parentchild relationships. There are 237 teenagers was participated in this study (aged 15-18 years old) who lived with their parent obtained from the scaling of SDQ, LEE and PACQ. The result of the regression indicated the two predictors explained 5,3% of variance (adjusted R2 = .053, F(3.235) = .013, p<.05). The implications of this study are the family expressed emotion and perceived of parent-child relationships are two factors that can contributed to the emergence of disruptive behavior symptoms in adolescent, although if analyzed separately perceived of parent-child relationships towards a mother has no effect.
