Abstract

This article discusses the importance of social capital in rural development. Social capital is deemed necessary in rural development activities because historical data shows that development carried out by the government of the Republic of Indonesia, especially during the New Order administration tended to neglect community participation, even though it was the community who would utilize the development results. Entering the era of reform, the direction of rural development underwent a paradigm shift, in which the community is no longer placed as an object, but has been positioned as the subject of development, which is more popularly known as development with the botton up approach. The paradigm is then elaborated on empirical reality by placing Tompobulu Village community as a locus of research. The results showed that the development activities in this village could run in accordance with expectations because they got the support of the community who synergized with the government, and placed social capital as the basic capital in implementing development.

Abstract

Overall, the empirical literature related to "Natural Resource Curse" can be divided into three main strands; first, which examines the impact of natural resources and economic growth. Literrature studies explain economic outcomes in countries rich in natural resources in part operate from a neoclassical / public choice or behaviorist perspective. The second literacy study; examine the impact of natural resources on democracy or democratic institutions. In one of his previous contributions, Ross (2001) not only discussed the mechanism and channel but also examined it empirically. Ross points out that natural resources in the form of oil and mineral wealth are negatively related to the size of democracy. He also found tentative support for three causal mechanisms connecting oil and authoritarian rule. Third empirical literature review; examines the impact of natural resources on institutional governance measures, such as corruption. Ades and Di Telia (1999), empirically and theoretically look for the determinants of corruption, the results include the impact of natural resources. Using the share of fuel and mineral exports in total exports, they invaded whether an increase in this section led to an increase in corruption in the 1980s and 1990s.

Abstract

National democracy will be strong if it is supported by democracy at the grassroots level. Nearly the last two decades, counting since the 1998 reforms, public attention has focused on democratic systems and journeys at the national level. While in the lowest society, democracy has not been a prominent agenda either in regulation or in the real political process. Village Communities, for example, have so far only been 'involved' in regional and national 'democratic' events, such as in elections, direct Pemilukada, or become objects of regulation in regional autonomy. At the level of jargon, democracy is often interpreted as a government of and for the people, meaning government by the people and carried out by representatives who are freely elected by the people. Democratization, because it is an effort to achieve democratic life through democratic means. Democracy is not achieved through a non-democratic process and the application of democratic methods does not always struggle in a democratic situation.

Abstract

Democracy provides a place for us to learn to live with the enemy because only democracy allows tension and paradox, which comes from freedom, to occur in society. In contrast to the New Order era, we can now enjoy freedom of opinion and association. This freedom can in turn produce tension. The relationship between elements of society with one another, or the relationship between the state and elements of society, can be tense because of differences in interests in regulating social and political order. Meanwhile, Indonesian society witnessed the paradox which also originated from freedom. This, for example, is shown by the emergence of intolerant groups such as the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). Even organizations such as HTI are of the view that democracy is not in accordance with the teachings of Islam in terms of sovereignty in the hands of the people, what should determine that is the preogrative right of Allah SWT. The government in the view of HTI only implements sharia and determines administrative technical issues.

Abstract

Symbolic violence is indeed not a form of violence that is easily seen, but actually this form of violence is very easily observed. It is actually everywhere, in the world of education, with its various forms and strategies. This concept was put forward by Bourdieu, a sociologist from France. Bourdieu uses this concept to explain the mechanism used by elite groups or upper groups that dominate the social structure of society to 'impose' ideology, culture, habits, or lifestyle on the lower class who dominate it. This cultural series by Bourdieu is also called habitus.
