Abstract

This paper found that there is intertextuality in Ibn Kathir's Work, Al-Qur’an Al-Azim. When Ibn Katsir interpret Sab 'samawat in seven surahs, Qs. Al-Baqarah: 29, al-Isra ': 44, al-Mu'minun: 86, Fussilat: 12, at -Talaq: 12, al-Mulk: 3, and N h: 15, his  interpretation has a correlation with previous texts. Related interpretations contained in the Al-Jami 'Li Ahkam al-Qur'an by Qurthubi, Jami' al bayan an ta'wil ay al-Quran by Thabari , and Ibn Mas'ud's exegesis. Furthermore, Al-Qur'an's Al-Azim's work, as a phenotext, has a lot of similarity with The Book of Enoch, as its genotext. The similarity is found in three points. First, the sky consists of seven layers, some of which are above the others. Second, every sky inhabit by the angels. Third, the angels in first sky give an honour to second sky habitant, the angels in second sky give an honour to third sky habitant, and so on. So, this paper attest Kristeva's theory that there is no independent text, one text with another is always related. And the other hand, this paper prove al-Quran as a cultural product, muntaj as-Saqafi.

Abstract

In the half second of 20th century, methodology of tafsir had developed very significant. Muhammad Husain al-Dzahabiy from Egypt, when he wrote his manuscript for his inauguration as a professor, al-Tafsr wa al-Mufassirn,in 1946, stated that there were three approaches of commentary of Qurn. They were al-Matsr, al-Maql, andal-Isyriy. Many people of the ulmul-Qurn scholars quoted his discovery then. Next, in 1966, the work ofMuhammad al-Fadhil bin Asyur from Tunisia, entitled al-Tafsir wa Rijaluh, had been publicated. In this work, hestated a little bit different from the previous that there were three approaches of commentary of Qurn; al-Atsariy, al-Nazhariy, and al-Naqdiy. His work have been important reference for the scholars of ulmul-Qurn then. Thiswriting is going to discuss about approaches in the commentary of Qurn as mentioned above.

Abstract

The Qur'an is believed by Muslims as the last holy book, the revelation of God, and the greatest miracle possessed by the Prophet. The Qur'an contains values, insights, and science, also contains laws that serve as guidelines for human life. Translation of the Qur'an is one effort to capture the message of the Qur'an. The act was also carried out by Orientalists who translated the Qur'an in different languages for various reasons. Competition, suspicion, and hatred and elements of power cannot be separated from the history of translation of the Qur'an by the Orientalists. Nevertheless, the paradigm over time began to shift, and made some European intellectuals soft and friendly with Islam, although there are still others who continue to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.

Abstract

Abstract

The commonly accepted assumption among Muslim scholars is that the abrogation (naskh)theory is regarded as method necessary for interpreting the Quran and for law-making. This articleis aimed to explore how it has been used and abused to support ideological interest. From thebeginning, some traditions, which are contradictory to each other, ascribed to Al bin Ab Thlib, for instance, which supports the importance of knowledge on naskh, falls under unreliable category. The traditions have been distorted and interpreted in different context to argue for its importance. The naskh has been used to interpret some ambigous verses, such as what Ahmad Al-Bahrn, aShiite scholar, to set up his own theological beliefs. Meanwhile, the Muslim jurists have applied it asa method of making of law decision. Abdullh al-Karkh (w. 340 H), a Hanafite scholar, for instance, used it to attack against legal opinions of non-Hanafite scholars. Since al-Shfis era tillcontemporary time, the naskh has been regarded as a method of developing Islamic law, of course,in different contexts and trends.

Abstract

The study of al-wqaf wa al-ibtidā' is one of the branches of 'ulum al-Qur'ān which is very important to be studied by Muslims. Moreover, today the Qur'anic mushafs circulating in the world have differences, both in terms of the signs used, as well as waqf and number. This issue has attracted the attention of many scholars. However, the comprehensive research on how the image of waqf lāzim among the different mushafs of the Qur’an, especially  the mushafs wich are widely circulated in Indonesian society, and its effect on interpretation is still rare. This paper is present in order to find scientific answers to the main question, what is the different in amount of waqf lāzim, its placement pattern, and its effect on interpretation between the Indonesian Standard Qur'an Mushaf and Madinah Mushaf. This study uses a comparative-analytical method, which is to compare the differences between two or more groups of a certain variable, in this case comparing the differences in the placement of waqf lāzim between the Indonesian Standard Qur'an Mushaf and Madinah Mushaf. After being compared as a whole, it is then analyzed about the causes-effects and factors that influence of these differences on interpretation. There are several points that can be concluded, there are 86 waqf lāzim places in the Indonesian Standard al-Qur'an Mushaf; 53 places in the middle of the verse and 33 places at the end. Meanwhile, in Madinah Mushaf, there are 22 verses marked with waqf lāzim, all of which are in the middle of the verse. This difference stems from the different patterns of placement of waqf lāzim, which are analyzed based on grammatical understanding and meaning. The selection of a waqf lāzim cannot be separated from the tendency of the interpretation of the verse desired by the Mushaf. After investigating, two main factors, internal and external, play a big role in influencing the differences in determining waqf lāzim between these two mushaf.

Abstract

Memorizing the Koran becomes a part that is not released from the guarding of Allah SWT towards the authenticity of the Qur'an. However, the method of memorizing the Koran did not receive special attention and priority in the authoritative texts of the Islamic religion even though at the same time the authoritative texts, - especially the hadith, explained a lot of small and trivial matters. But PP. Usyaqil Qur'an has one of the traditional rituals relating to memorizing the Qur'an, - which are not practiced by many memorizers of the Qur'an elsewhere. Furthermore, they rely on the tradition to the Prophet. To that end, the author will examine the traditional phenomenon ṣalat taqwiyah al-hifzh as one of the hadith phenomena which the community has lived (living hadith) in order to know the practice of the prayer tradition and to know their understanding of the foundation of the prayer. The phenomenology approach, interview method, and observation were chosen by the researcher to find out directly the implementation of the tradition based on the perspective of the research object.

Abstract

One school of Kalam/Islamic theology that once flourished in antiquity was Mu'tazila flow. Flow pattern known as rational and liberal thought that was growing and evolving so rapidly and peaked in the Abbasid era in particular Khalifah Al- Ma'mun because of the support and protection of the khalifah. But then, the glory and the gold period did not last long, it eventually flew into decline. It was caused by a variety of factors, most importantly; they had done violence coercion and even torture of a number of scholars in the event of al - mihnah when imposing the concept of "Al-Quran beings". The violence was bad for the flow Mu'tazila antagonizing people. They were followed also by the beginning of a new stream of traditional and more moderate, Ash'arite. This stream got a lot of sympathy among the people. The Mu'tazila flow was progressively weaker and eventually disappear from the Islamic world.
