Abstract

Al-Quran is a text that is free to be interpreted by anyone from its readers. As a dead text (unable to speak alone) allows itself to be interpreted according to the will of the interpreter. It is this background that gives rise to a variety of Koranic interpretations. However, it then also gives rise to forms of interpretation that come out of the ruling interpretation of the Koran, which later became known as deviant interpretations. Through research studies of Library, this paper will reveal forms of misinterpretation and negative effects for Muslims. This deviation of interpretation has extended to various modes of interpretation itself, such as being included in historical interpretations, theological opinions, Sufi interpretations, linguistic interpretations, scientific interpretations, even modern interpretations. These deviations have a devastating negative effect, such as assuming Islamic teachings are not authentic, mixing Islam with non-Muslims, misunderstanding the content of the Koran, and degrading salaf scholars.

Abstract

The Liberal Islam Network is a social-intellectual movement and policy reform group for Islamic sciences. A party that brings the discourse of emancipation and freedom of thought with concepts of pluralism, democracy, and secularism to give birth to ideas about inclusive Islam, progressive Islam, and humanist Islam. By reinterpreting the practices of the Islamic sciences, such as the study of the Qu'ran, the Kalam, the Fiqh, the Sufism, and the Philosophy, it has received much criticism as well as support for contributing to the Islamic sciences. Liberal Islamic networks want a religious definition that is humanistic, broad-based monotheism, not authoritarian, and they tend to be more transparent, inclusive and egalitarian, not simply dishonest or disbelieving to other communities. This paper will focus on two studies, first, about the movement of the Liberal Islamic Network methodology. ; Secondly, explore the contribution of the Liberal Islamic Network to the renewal of the tradition of Islamic sciences. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis with an intellectual history approach. The paper is then discussed using the theory of social movements and the scientific revolution of Thomas Kuhn. Nowadays, the Liberal Islamic Network has contributed to the development of Islamic thought, especially in the renewal of Islamic sciences.

Abstract

This study attempts to examine the origin of theology. In every religion, it is the most substantial element, because it is the intellectual discourse around the divinity and belief of that religion. We know the terms such as Christian Theology, Jewish Theology, Islamic Theology, Hindu Theology and so on. From here, howeover, it raises the question of what theology is intrinsically? Etymologically the term theology is in fact derived from the Greek whose people are the worshipers of the gods and do not recognize the conception of divinity as other religions do. How can it exist in these religions? From this historical-philosophical search it is found that theology in its generic meaning is defined as the discourse of the exalted supranatural being. It is born naturally in every society from time to time. It can take a variety of forms according to the religious tradition of its people, but in essence it is the discourse on the One who organizes and manages the universe.

Abstract

This article examines the plague expulsion ritual that uses the Tanaman Andong and kentongan as a spiritual effort in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in Sumberejo Village, Kandat District, Kediri Regency. A series of rituals had been conducted for two years during the pandemic are believed as “laku batin’ to prevent the plague attack in the village. This research uses Clifford Geertz's thick description approach which will provide a complete picture of the ritual process, materials, meanings of symbols, and people's beliefs about the Tanaman Andong and Kentongan rituals. Researchers used descriptive ethnographic methods, observations and in-depth interviews toward ritual practicers. As a result, the ritual of Tanaman Andong and Kentongan is a kind of ijtihad by a villager who is then trusted by his closest family, followed by 15 heads of families. There are several rituals of the Tanaman Andong and kentongan, they are larung offerings, selametan suro, installation of tolak bala’ of turmeric and rajah, and the installation of cinde in houses. Tanaman Andong means "dong" which in Javanese is called "ngaweruhi", understanding all the guidance given by Allah. Kentongan is a symbol of vigilance, so that with all the ritual efforts, the people feel of confidence and of security when living during a pandemic
