Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants affecting labour absorption in the industrial sector of West Java province. Using random effect panel data regression, it examines secondary data from 2017 to 2021. The findings indicate that city/regency minimum wages, economic growth, private sector investment, and the number of operating industries positively and significantly influence labour absorption in the industrial sector. Conversely, road infrastructure, foreign direct investment, and the education index do not show a statistically significant effect. To enhance economic growth and labour absorption, the government should accelerate investment, improve the ease of doing business, promote labour-intensive industries, and align labour market needs with industry demands through education and training programs.

Abstract

This paper studies the determinants of bank financial distress using a 2012–2018 multi-country panel (73,124 bank-year observations; 10,562 banks; 32 countries). Fixed-effects estimates show that higher capital (Tier-1/RWA) and better asset quality (lower NPL) are associated with higher Z-scores (lower distress). Intangible intensity is positively related to distress. Cash-holding proxies load negatively in the Z-score equation, indicating that larger cash balances coincide with lower Z-scores in this sample. One interpretation is that excess cash reflects under-deployment or precautionary hoarding during adverse conditions, which does not translate into stronger stability. Results are robust to alternative specifications. Policy implications highlight calibrating core capital, strengthening credit risk management, and optimizing not hoarding liquidity.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of air temperature on the prevalence of mental health disorders in Indonesia from 2013 to 2023, and projects the future burden through 2045. Using panel data from 34 provinces across three time points, the analysis employs a random effects model to capture interregional variation. The findings reveal that annual average temperature is positively and significantly correlated with the prevalence of mental health disorders. Specifically, a 1-degree-Celsius increase in temperature is associated with a 0.5–0.6 percent rise in the proportion of the population experiencing mental health issues. Among socioeconomic factors, unemployment shows a significant positive association, while income inequality, poverty, and unmet need for mental health services are statistically insignificant. The study further constructs long-term projections by integrating regression results with climate and demographic trends. These results highlight the urgency of incorporating mental health dimensions into climate adaptation policies, especially in tropical middle-income countries. A spatial-temporal evidence-based approach is essential for developing early warning systems and responsive policy interventions to address climate-related mental health risks.

Abstract

This study aims to seek the validity of Ricardian equivalence in Indonesia and Malaysia using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL). This study finds the invalidity of Ricardian equivalence in the long-term and short-term in both countries. For Indonesia case, during the last three financial crisis happens in 1998, 2008, and 2020 caused by COVID-19, Ricardian equivalence happens only in 1998. More interestingly, this study finds that there is a different relationship between household savings and household expenditure in Indonesia and Malaysia. This study is expected to contribute to the development of body of knowledge, particularly with the case of Ricardian equivalence and Keynes approaches on expansionary fiscal policy as well as practical public policy, particularly related to government budget in crisis and household saving and expenditure.

Abstract

Short-term economic interest mostly neglects environmental concerns, resulting in continuous harmful impacts, including climate change. In response, the concept of green economy, which balances these conflicting interests, has attracted increasingly significant research attention. However, the green economy concept remains biased and vague. This study offers a novel contribution by systematically mapping the post-2016 evolution of the green economy concept, utilizing descriptive network analysis on a dataset of 11,301 Scopus-indexed articles to resolve prevailing definitional fragmentation. The study finds three main elements in the definitions offered: economic, environmental, and social , and highlights the multifaceted nature of trade-offs or synergies among these clusters. Consequently, the study defines the green economy concept as an economic philosophy, idea, and activity based on the principles of preserving the environment, enhancing public welfare, and maintaining social equity within and among generations. Theoretically, this consolidates the fragmented literature; practically, it provides a standardized framework for policymakers to design consistent green economy indicators and tracking mechanisms for future economic activity.
