Abstract

As a dictionary used as a guide in PPQ Nurul Huda for 10 years, the 'Hifdz al-Mufrodat Dictionary has never experienced changes or additions that are tailored to user needs. This study aims to evaluate the contents of the dictionary with the aim that the 'Hifdz al-Mufrodat Dictionary can become an interesting and effective learning resource. This study uses library research methods with the research object being the 'Hifdz al-Mufrodat Dictionary. The results of the study show that the 'Hifdz al-Mufrodat (Memorizing Vocabularies)' Dictionary component still has three parts even though it only fulfills a small part of the stated standard component criteria. Regarding the method of compiling the dictionary, this dictionary is compiled using a different system in each chapter. Thus, this dictionary is compiled thematically on a small scale. Taking into account some of the deficiencies and the many components that have not been included in the dictionary, this dictionary should be updated and readjusted to user needs, in this context means PPQ Nurul Huda students and the curriculum that covers them.

Abstract

The feuds between lawyers of celebrities which often occurred recently is interesting to analyze because they grab public attention. This paper attempts to analyze the alleged defamation committed by Andar Situmorang against Hotman Hutapea, better known as Hotman Paris, when interviewed by journalists in front of the KPI office..  The method used is descriptive qualitative which allows researchers to describe the data in depth.  The data collected is in the form of utterances delivered by research subject.   In general, due to its relation to language problems in legal cases, this paper can be considered as a forensic linguistic study. To find out the aims of this study, several linguistic theories including cohesion, coherence, and cognitive semantics were used simultaneously. The analysis results show that  the alleged defamation committed by Andar Situmorang against Hotman Hutapea  can be proven linguistically.;Therefore, it is a proof that linguistic studies can be very helpful for investigating legal cases.

Abstract

The objective of the research was  to interpret the type and subtype of directive speech act found in Megawati Sukarnoputri’s political speech during the celebration of PDIP’s 50th anniversary, identify its frequencies and explain what they are used for. This is a qualitative research that applied directive speech act approach. The data in this study were taken from the transcript of the speech. They were interpreted by identifying utterances which applies directive speech act, and categorizing them into different types and subtypes. This research discovered 184 utterances which applied directive speech act where 121 of them were categorized as command, 35 were requests and 28 were suggestions. The most dominant subtype was direct speech act, while indirect speech used occasionally. It additionally revealed that command used to give order, instructions, prohibitions and warnings, requests to ask for cooperation, and support, and express wishes, and suggestions to give advice and opinions.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and describe the synonymous forms of the Pontianak Malay dialect in Pontianak City using semantic analysis. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques in this study used observation, recording, and listening to tapping. The data obtained in this study are in the form of synonyms in Pontianak Malay dialect. Abstract

The research objective was to discover whether or not there is a significant correlation between students’ academic self-efficacy and their English learning achievement at SMAN 1 Pekanbaru.  The research applied quantitative approach with correlational research design,. The population of the research was 250 students of tenth grade at SMAN 1 Pekanbaru, meanwhile the samples were 70 students, who were selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The instruments employed in this study were questionnaire to measure students’ academic self-efficacy and secondary data that was taken from the exam results of students’ English achievement. To analyze the data, the researcher applied SPSS 25. The findings proved that the correlation coefficient between the two variables is 0.422 and categorized as ‘moderate’. In addition, the determinant coefficient of students’ academic self-efficacy is 0.1780. It  was inferred that there is a moderately significant and positive correlation between two variables.

Abstract

To support the needs of the BIPA learning process, textbooks are needed in accordance with the BIPA graduation competency standards (SKL). SKL development refers to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a foreign language proficiency guide with three stages, namely A for basic users, B for independent users, and C for proficient users. As a reference for SKL, it is important for BIPA teaching material developers to know the CEFR concept. Because CEFR has a more complex standard of competence. The design of this research is content analysis, focusing on the implications of CEFR Level A1 Sahabatku Indonesia textbook for Arabic Language Speakers Level 1. The results show that CEFR has been implemented in textbooks by presenting four language skills, reading, listening, writing, and speaking, and has supported material aspects of grammar and culture. Textbooks have also been equipped with attractive and interactive digital learning access.

Abstract

A novel is a complex narrative structure that functions as an explication of reality of life in which  narratology analysis of Gérard Genette's perspective is an  appropriate literary theory to analyse it because it contains five theoretical components. This research applies descriptive qualitative research, note-taking technique for data collection, and partial-integral analysis to analyse the data. This study aims to describe the narrative structure (storytelling) and its analysis findings in the novel “Buku Besar Peminum Kopi” using the five components of Genette's narratology theory. The study show that the novel  “Buku Besar Peminum Kopi” has a mix of anachronism and achronim plot, three types of narrative duration (pauses, scenes, and ellipsis), three types of frequency (singular, anaphoric, and iterative). The narrator,  in the second level in this novel, acts as an observer, the point of view comes from the characters, and the story time is mixed i.e. past and present.

Abstract

The extinction of languages in the world is inevitable with globalization and regional languages in Indonesia. In this regard, the purpose of this paper is to describe the Government of Indonesia's policy towards the maintenance of regional languages; the use of regional languages in the realm of family, school, and society. This research is descriptive research with data collection techniques through library research. As a result, the government has issued many regulations governing the use of local languages and creating programs for their maintenance, starting from families and schools to the wider community. The use of the mother tongue originating from the regional language in the family sphere is mostly spoken by the older generation. Regional languages are still used in communicating among ethnic groups among the older generation but are not always spoken by the younger generation. At school teachers provide opportunities to use local languages in communication at school. In conclusion, the Government of Indonesia's policies must continue to be realized through language counseling programs, awarding regional language proficiency exam (UKBD) pass certificates, and awarding regional language activists
