Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimization of temperature on the growth and survival of discus fish. The treatments used were different temperatures at 25°C, 28°C, and 31°C. Discus fish maintenance is carried out in 3 aquariums with a size of 120 × 40 × 40 cm which have been given a filter, aeration and heater. The water used is 120 liters, which has been aerated for 24 hours with a predetermined temperature using a heater (50W) and a water change of about 25% every week. Feeding is done by the satiation method, given 3 times a day with frozen worms where after 1 hour of feeding will be done to clean the remaining feed. Sampling of water quality (pH) using manual sampling method as a supporting parameter. The test fish used in this study were 5 cm discus fish. The number of fish used was 27 fish, and measurements were taken every 15 days with 3 repetitions. Length and weight growth of discus fish increased during the study. The growth of discus fish (Symphysodon sp.) treated at 31°C was the most optimum growth with absolute length reaching 1,56 cm and absolute weight of 3,55 g compared to the 25°C and 28°C temperature treatments. The survival rate of discus fish in the 25° C, 28° C, and 31° C temperature treatments has a survival rate value of 100% and water quality that remains stable due to optimum temperature vulnerability.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to determine the habitat characteristics and population density of brittle stars in coastal area of Nyang-Nyang Beach, Bali. To facilitate the process, observations were made between November and January from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., when the tide was at its lowest. The methodology of survey and descriptive comparative approach research was used. Purposive sampling was used to determine observation and sampling locations: two stations known to be brittle star habitats were chosen as research sites. The variables observed were two: biota community structure observations of brittle star variables at the genus level, such as abundance, diversity, evenness, and dominance, which were measured using 1 x 1 m plots. Environmental water quality variables such as beach characteristics, pH, salinity, water temperature, Dyssolved Oxygen, and current velocity are observed. Microsoft Excel was used to perform data analysis calculations. According to habitat analysis, the coast of Nyang-Nyang Beach provides an ideal habitat environment for Echinodermata, particularly the Ophiuroidea class, includes brittle stars. Nyang-Nyang beach had the brittle stars density, with 24 ind/m2 recorded. With an H' value of 0.514, but it was classified as having low diversity. The evenness index value on Nyang-Nyang Beach is 0,468, and there is no dominant genus along the coast of Nyang-Nyang beach because the dominance index value on this beach is close to 0.

Abstract

Important aspects that affect the level of welfare and the economy of fishermen are the socio-economic conditions and exchange rates of fishermen. The purpose of this study was to determine the socio-economic conditions and exchange rates of fishermen in the Sanur Kaja Village. Primary data was obtained based on observations, interviews, and questionnaires on respondents (samples) by purposive sampling, which includes data on social aspects (age, education, number of family dependents, and variety of jobs) and data on economic aspects (fishery income, expenses, and non-fishery income). All data were analyzed using a qualitative and quantitative approach, namely data analysis for calculating Fishermen's Exchange Rates (NTN). Based on the data obtained, the age range of fishermen is 28 years to 61 years, with varying levels of education ranging from not having finished elementary school, elementary school, junior high school, high school, and Diploma to Bachelor with the number of family dependents ranging from 1 to 6 people. The income earned varies from < IDR. 200,000 to IDR. 750,000 with expenses starting from IDR. 100,000 to IDR. 200,000 on 1 time went to sea. Based on the calculation results, the NTN is above 1, which is 1.59. With NTN above 1, this means that fishermen are said to be able to fulfill their basic needs.

Abstract

Lake Toba, one of the largest lakes in Indonesia, is located in the province of North Sumatera, which has a significant tourism sector. Increased human activity can place the aquatic ecosystem of Lake Toba under great ecological pressure. Total Suspended Solids (TSS) are an important water quality indicator. Various human activities are carried out on Lake Toba, including fish farming in floating net cages (KJA), tourism, and water transportation. This activity produces organic and inorganic substances that have the potential to reduce water quality. Based on the research results, the concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) at five sampling locations exceeded class II water quality standards. The TSS concentration has different variations from the other 4 water sampling points because the 4 water sampling points are not passed by shipping lanes. The large TSS values at the 5 water sampling points can be caused by domestic waste generated from port activities, water transportation, tourism activities, hotels, and offices.

Abstract

Parasites in the body of cultivated fish will cause harm to the fish, because the parasites take nutrients from their hosts, it is necessary to study the intensity and prevalence of parasites in tilapia (Oreochomis niloticus) in order to determine the density of parasite attacks and the percentage of parasites in tilapia. Samples of tilapia (Oreochomis niloticus) were taken from the Central Sangeh Fish Seed Center (BBI). The research was conducted for 3 months from October 4th 2022 to December 13 2022 randomly sampling. Samples of tilapia (Oreochomis niloticus) examined were 36 samples of Nila Nirwana fish. The parasites found in the external organs (ectoparasites) were only found in the tilapia gills, while for the internal organs (endoparasites) parasites were not found in both the stomach and intestines of the fish. The ectoparasites found were Dactylogyrus sp. (2181 ind) and Gyrodactylus sp. (157 ind). The highest intensity was in the genus Dactylogyrus of 60.6 ind/fish including the severe category, while for the genus Gyrodactylus of 4.4 ind/head including the low category. The highest prevalence value was in the genus Dactylogyrus with 92% in the always category while in the genus Gyrodactylus it was 78% in the usual category. This study’s supporting data for water quality includes temperature, pH, DO, and ammonia. Where temperature during the study ranged from 28-30oC, pH or acidity ranged from 7.6-8.5, and DO or dissolved oxygen ranged from 7.3-8.4 mg/L. The water quality result in this study were normal for fish farming.
