Abstract

Water pollution is the entry or inclusion of substances, energy and other components into the water by human activities, so that water quality decrease to a certain level. This study a timed to monitor the pollution of aquatic environment in the Badung River and Mati River by using Annelida phylum as bioindicator, the study was conducted from February to March 2017. The data obtained were analyzed by the structure of the community, and also used ABC (Abudance-Biomass Comparison) method. The result of the research showed that the most abundance of Annelida and dominant from all stations of Badung River and Mati River was Lumbriculus variegatus. Is showed that it contamination status was categorized as mild contamination because it was dominant by facultative organism. The structure of the Annelida community in the Badung River and Mati River with the value of the diversity index was categorized as low Annelida (H '<1.0). The uniformity index was categorized as depressed Annelida community (0.00 <E 0.50), high dominance index of Badung River (0.75 <C ? 1.00), Mati River was medium (0.50 < C < 0.75). The result of the water quality range as the supporting factor showed the average support for Annelida life i.e the current velocity 0.16 - 0.61 m/s, the temperature 25.5 - 31oC, DO 3-7.2 mg/l, pH 7.77 - 8.44 and BOD5 0.5 - 3.1 mg/l. The analysis environmental pollution condition of Badung River and Mati River with Annelida as bioindicator by using ABC method showed that were medium contaminated.

Abstract

The study of economically important fish which is landed at Fishing Landing Base (PPI) Kedonganan District Kuta Selatan Badung Regency was held on 1 Februri s.d 31 March 2017 (west season). Objective is to inventory list of types of fish economically important which is landed in PPI Kedonganan Badung regency. The research was conducted using direct survey method with purposive sampling technique of fish landed PPI Kedonganan, the data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The identification process was carried out by using identification keys from Saanin (1984) volumes I and II, and an important economic fish identification book from Peristiwady (2006). Based on the results of the study, there were 16 important types of important fish landed in PPI Kedonganan in the west season, which entered in the classification of 4 orders (perciformes, apodes, clupeiformes, and beloniformes), and 9 families consisting of 16 Species. Of the 4 orders, the most frequencies and volumes found were the perciformes with the tuna fish species, the sardines (Sardinella fimbriate), and the kawa-kawa (Euthynnus afinis). The least-discovered species are baronang (Siganus guttatus), flying fish (Cheilopogon sp) in the order of beloniformes, and kembung fish (Restrelliger sp). Comparison of production data in the west season with fish landing production data in PPI Kedonganan in other seasons, that types of fish are found relatively few species and the volume is lower. This means that the west season gives effect to the catch of fish that was declared in PPI Kedonganan.

Abstract

Seagrasses have functions and roles as primary producers, biota habitats, bottom seawater stabilizers, sediment catchers, and nutrient recyclers. With the function of seagrass as a habitat of biota, it can provide economic opportunities to be utilized as a marine tourism, especially marine ecotourism. Marine ecotourism is a concept of sustainable use of coastal resources with environmental service system that prioritizes coastal natural resources as an object of service. This study aimed to identify the seagrass potency ecologically and socially and to formulate the seagrass management strategies to support tourism development in Nusa Dua. This study was conducted from January-March 2017 using observation and interview method. Observation method was used to define the condition of seagrass, fish species, and environmental parameters. Then Interview method was used to know social conditiion of Mengiat Beach and analyzed by SWOT to formulate the seagrass management strategies. The result showed, there were 6 species, i.e., Halophila ovalis, Cymodocea Halodule pinifolia rotundata, Syringodium isoetifolium, Thalassia hemprichii, and Thalassodendron ciliatum. The percentage of seagrass coverage at 5 stations tend to be low (5,639%-47,49%). Based on Tourism Suitability Indexes, Mengiat Beach in Nusa Dua is suitable (S2) for tourism activities with value 75,08%. The priority strategies are formulated from the SWOT matrix is applying under water garden in seagrass base on tourism planning.

Abstract

The ecosystem of mangrove is one of unique and distinctive forms of forest ecosystem, has high economic and ecological value, but has highly vulnerable to damage if it’s unwise in management. The information about area of mangrove forest in East Manggarai District was too limited. Therefore it needs an analysis of area and density changes of mangrove headings in East Manggarai District. The objective of this research is analyzing area and density changes of mangrove headings in Borong Subdistrict of East Manggarai District. The techniques of this research past supervised classification, NDVI analysis and field observation. The data analysis are correlation and accuracy test. Based on the image analysis, the ecosystem area of mangrove in Borong Subdistrict of East Manggarai District from 2007 till 2017 decreased by 20,61 hectares from 90.99 to 70.38 hectares. Declining also occurred in density of mangrove headings level, where density level was reduces to medium or rare. Result of the accuracy test obtained overall accuracy value was 82%. The density of mangrove headings on rarely classification has NDVI value of less than 0.3272, the medium has 0.3272 to 0.413 and the dense has more than 0.413. Based on the correlation analysis the value of density and NDVI form a linear regression model y = 233.2x – 26.304, with a very strong correlation (r) is 0.93. The decreasing area and density of mangrove caused by human activity that are harmful the existence of mangrove forest.

Abstract

Lovina Beach is one of the beaches visited by many foreign and domestic tourists. Lovina Beach has a tourism spot and a vast area of marine biota cultivation. Life of biota in the waters of Lovina Beach is affected by conditions of beach waters. The research purpose was to know the correlation between waters quality and plankton in Lovina Beach by using observation method. The research was done on February until March 2017. Species of fitoplankton species from all three stations was dominated by Lyngbya sp. with abundance of 78 ind/l. The average value of the phytoplankton diversity index found was 1.7706. The average value of phytoplankton uniformity index is 0.9882 while the value of phytoplankton dominance index is 0.1737. The average value of the zooplankton diversity index found is 1.7311. The average value of the zooplankton uniformity index is 0.8896 while the zooplankton dominance index value is 0.2125. The result of the measurement of water quality is temperature parameter in Lovina Beach ranged from 27.6 - 28.9 0C, brightness ranged between 4.7 - 6 m, salinity of 25.3 - 27 ppt, DO (Dissolved Oxygen) ranged between 4 - 4 , 7 Mg / L, the pH ranged from 8.5 to 8.6, the nitrate ranged from 0.0081-00087 Mg/L and the phosphate ranged from 0.016 to 0.027 Mg / L. So, it can be concluded that the waters of Lovina Beach has the highest abundance of plankton that is the type of zooplankton, the level of plankton community structure in Lovina Beach waters is moderate.ppt, DO (Dissolved Oxygen) 4 – 4,3 Mg/l, pH 8,5 – 8,6, nitrate 0,0081 – 0,0087 Mg/l and phosphate 0,016 – 0,027 Mg/L. The structure of plankton community in Lovina coastal according of phytoplankton abundance categorized in oligotropic, while according of zooplankton abundance categorized in moderate (mesotropic).

Abstract

Serangan Island is a small island located approximately 5 km in south of Denpasar City and has a maximum length of 2.9 km and a width of 1 km which is administratively as part of the Denpasar City, Bali Province. Serangan Island is widely used for aquaculture and fisheries activities, moreover Serangan is also used as tourism activities, transportation routes, the harbour of ships and residences which may have impact on the aquatic ecosystem balance. The purpose of this research is to know how the structure of macrozoobenthos community and the water quality condition in Serangan Island. The research was conducted on February to March 2017 by using descriptive quantitative method in 3 research stasions. The result showed that there are 23 species of macrozoobenthos that consists of 7 classes, namely Gastropods, Bivalve, Crustacea, Echinoidea, Asteroidea, Ophiuroidea, and Holothuroidea. The highest total of abundance was at station 1 about 46,8 ind/m2. The diversity index ranged from 0,66-2,14 and the equibility index ranged from 0,60-0,81, while the dominance index ranged from 0,17-0,63. Based on the criteria of the Shanon-Wiener diversity index (H'), the diversity index at station 1 and 2 indicates moderate diversity which has moderate species distribution and moderately polluted waters, whereas the value of the diversity index at station 3 indicates that the diversity in this stasion is low, showed by low abundance of species, low stability of the community and severe polluted condition.

Abstract

Denpasar City and Badung Regency has a very large population growth rate, diversity, and intensity of development activities that produced domestic waste which if not properly managed, causes burden and damage to the aquatic environment. Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Suwung-Denpasar is one of the wastewater treatment business for waste management center from the area around Denpasar, Sanur, and Kuta. Based on the data analysis was known that the waste generated has not been appropriate environmental quality standards so that will affect the quality of the water. The aim of his research is to investigate the effectiveness of domestic wastewater treatment conducted in March - April 2017 by observation method in process and effectiveness measurement of waste water treatment. The processing begins with the distribution of waste in Denpasar and Sanur areas that are channeled to the bar screen and then collected to the inflow pumping station to be channeled to the receiving tank including waste from the Kuta area. Subsequent waste flows into the chamber grit to be filtered and taken to the aeration pond for 2 days then to the sedimentation pool for 16 hours and flowed to the effluent canal. The results showed the percentage of effective waste treatment in oil and fat restoration 85%, detergent 62%, and BOD 57%, while not effective in ammonia change because only reduced 26%, DO and H2S are not in accordance with environmental quality standards.

Abstract

The research objectives were to investigate the distribution and molluscs community structure in Mertasari beach, Denpasar-Bali. The research area was divided into 2 sites, the first site (I) has sandy substrate and second site (II) has muddy sand substrate. This research used quadrat transects systematic sampling method with 1x1 m2 quadrat. The data of the research were analyzed used Microsoft Excel. It was conducted from January to March 2017. The research result shows that the structure of molluscs in Mertasari Beach was support by 31 species richness of 25 species from gastropods and 6 species of bivalves. The density number of the molluscs was 124.5 ind/m2. The diversity index of the molluscs ranged from 2.29 to 2.58 were category as moderate diversity, the evenness index ranged 0.83 to 0.87 were category as high evenness, the dominance index ranged from 0.09-0.13 were category as low. the index number indicates that the ecological condition at Mertasari beach was in good condition so it is suitable to support the molluscs community livelihood. Which was supported by water quality value of dissolved oxygen at Mertasari beach ranged from 4-6.7 mg/l, pH waters ranged from 7.39-7.74, water temperature ranged from 25.9-29oC, water salinity ranged from 9-29 ppt. The distribution pattern of 31 species of molluscs were in groups (Id>1).

Abstract

Serangan Island is a strategically touristic beach area where there is a vast expanse of seagrass being cultivated as habitat for the epiphuna, the beach has tourism activities such as surfing and swimming which could affect the life of epiphuna. The purpose of this study is to know the abundance and diversity of epiphuna in the seagrass area using the 1x1 m quadrat transect method. The study was conducted in February 2017. The highest epiphuna abundance at location 1 was 25,1 ind/m2. The lowest abundance value is at location 2 which is 19,1 ind/m2, whereas at location 3, it has the abundance value of 21,1 ind/m2. The epiphuna species that dominates from all three locations are from the Arthropoda phylum including Clibanarius taeniatus, Coenobita sp. and Calcinus laevimanus. The highest diversity index was found in location 1, 2,211, location 2 was 2,132 and the lowest was at location 3 which was 1,853, while the highest seagrass density of the three stations was Syringodium isoetifolium type 358 stands/m2 and the lowest was Thallasodendron ciliatum, 29 stands/m2. The results of the overall water quality measurement, ie, the temperature ranged from 27,6 to 28,40C, the pH ranged from 7,7 to 7,9, the salinity ranged between 28-30 ppt and DO ranged between 4,5-4,7 mg/l. Serangan Island coastal waters have the highest abundance of epiphuna in Arthropoda phylum, moderate (location 1 and 2) and low (location 3) diversity level, and with a normal water quality which is feasible for epiphuna life.

Abstract

Ngurah Rai Forest Park Bali is a mangrove forest area located along Benoa Bay. Tahura Ngurah Rai area was found in more than 10 types of mangroves, one of which was the caseolaris Sonneratia. This study aims to determine the potential and distribution of caseolaris Sonneratia based on soil type, and determine the type of substrate in the caseolaris Sonneratia distribution. The method is observational by sampling plots for tree stand categories and pole categories five station areas. Water parameters analyzed were temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and pH. The soil parameters analyzed were soil pH, organic C, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, potassium, and water content. The results showed that the density of caseolaris Sonneratia trees at each station varied where the highest at station V (Nusa Dua) at 1,397 ind / ha and the lowest at station II (Suwung Kauh) with density of 177 ind / ha. Specific density values five stations fall into criteria. The type closure that entered the criteria of lack / damage is found at stations I, II, III, and IV, while for the category of very dense (good) at station V. The most pattern is the distribution pattern "clustered" (ind> 1). The range of physics-chemical parameters the waters in Tahura Ngurah Rai the highest temperature 30.33 oC and the lowest 28.36 oC , the highest salinity 25 ppm and the lowest 11 ppm, the highest dissolved oxygen 6.16 mg / L and the lowest 6.2 mg / L, the highest pH values are 8 and lowest 7.
