ABSTRACT The character of a community, especially the younger generation is the identity of the community itself, and the existence of a nation is determined by the character owned. The important role of young people in dealing with the problems in this era of globalization is the return builder character (character enablers), empowering character (character builders) and engineer character (character enginee). ABSTRAK Tujuan dari paper ini adalah untuk mendiskusikan secara ringkas tentang dua aspek dari ‘communicative competence’ yang sangat penting dalam pengajaran bahasa asing. Kedua aspek tersebut adalah grammatical competence dan sociolinguistics competence yang merupakan hal yang penting dalam pengajaran bahasa asing yang digunakan sesuai dengan topik situasi dan interaksi orang yang menggunakan bahasa asing tersebut. Disamping itu, bentuk bahasa dalam bentuk grammar juga harus diajarkan secara bersama karena arti dan fungsi bahasa tersebut sangat berpengaruh dalam berkomunikasi baik secara verbal maupun non-verbal. Dalam pengajaran bahasa asing, pemilihan penggunaan bahasa yang tepat (appropriate language) sangat berpengaruh dalam kemampuan berkomunikasi khususnya dalam pengajaran bahasa asing. ABSTRACT This article is a response to the book Death Without Weeping: The Violence of Everyday Life in Brazil, the work of Nancy Scheper-Hughes, University of California Press Berkeley and Los Angeles: 1992. Ethnographic work of the book is more likely to be in line with the thinking of post-modernism, which saw a radical change from an industrial to the postindustrial organized cultural consumption, mass media game, and the development of information technology. In addition to a combination of approaches-symbolic interpretivism approach and historical material- expressed on the issues of marginalization and contestation of power inherent in the post-modernism culture today. ABSTRACT Today Indonesia is facing the challenges of globalization, especially in its cultural dimension has brought the threat to the continuity of national culture. Historically Pancasila ideology has been an integrating force is quite steady as a common platform for the nation-state of Indonesia. The existence of Pancasila should be shown again as a public discourse that is open to interpretation in accordance with the demands of the contemporary with the times. ABSTRACT As part of Indonesian society, Chinese society prosseses unique custom and tradition. Although Chinese society has settled for centuries in Indonesian and has adapted to Indonesia culture, they still carry out their marriage ceremony called “cio taoâ€. The marriage sense for Chinese society is “xiao†i.e. the respect to their parent, ancestors and the welfare for both families. It is recognized that Chinese society in Indonesia can be classified into two groups, i.e. pure-blooded and half-bred. Both groups organize different marriage custom. Pure-blooded group still follow the traditional custom while the half-bred left the traditional custom and attached either to their religion or Western style. At the present time the Chinese society tends to follow the traditional style as the consequence of the decree of president Abdurachman Wachid No.6/2000. ABSTRACT Gadis Berkulit Hitam (Black-skinned girl) is a short story written by author francophone originating from Senegal, a former French colony. Postcolonial discourse is evident in the image of the subaltern and the other is very dominant on the short story of GBH. This short story has two very different place settings, namely Senegal and France, which is identical to Senegal the eastern while France is western. East and west relations are synonymous with the colonized and the colonizers. This short story contains a message about the relationship of the colonizer and the colonized are not balanced both in terms of material and intellectual as well as an overview of the pettiness and delusion lead character in a Western-paced look beautiful, luxurious and think that whiteness is rightness. ABSTRACT Syawalan is a religious ceremony system in Javanese culture that has been a tradition to date carried out by traditional Muslim communities in Kaliwungu Kendal Regency in particular. This paper discusses the history, pattern, essence, meaning, and function of Syawalan as calenderial ritual tradition that has lasted decades. Syawalan as mediation "ngalap berkah" to the Auliya’ (Saint) or the cultural heroes, that is so dear to the hearts of the people and communities so that they are believed to have many "kekuatan karamah†during his lifetime because of the sanctity of life and the value of the quality of piety to God. ABSTRACT Philosophy emerged in the Greek region about two thousand five hundred years ago as an effort to seek the truth. This is an important moment for the birth of science. Philosophy is the mother of science. Science is essentially an attempt to help human solve the problem. Science should benefit humans’ life.
