Abstract

Bali is well known for its art and culture, both nationally and internationally. Therefore, it is not surprising that in Bali, art and culture have developed very rapidly, including painting. In the 1930s, a new Balinese painting emerged whose subject matter was people in everyday life. For example, ritual activities in temples, rice harvesting scenes, traditional festival processions, crowded market scenes, and animal life became the central themes of Balinese painters' artworks. However, the issue of art, especially painting in Bali, is not widely studied academically by artists, especially by naturalist artists. In fact, the main painting by I Dewa Nyoman Batuan contains many symbolic values, both religious symbols and cultural symbols, especially Hindu religion and culture. The problem is why paintings by I Dewa Nyoman Batuan are said to contain high symbolic value? Then how is the visualization of symbolic values in the works of I Dewa Nyoman Batuan, and what are the implications for social, cultural, religious life, and for the life of art itself. This research uses a qualitative approach with qualitative-interpretative analysis techniques. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies. The results obtained, namely there are several factors that cause mandala painting art by I Dewa Nyoman Batuan to be said to contain high simbolic value, such as philosophical factors, ideological factors, theological factors, and the use of symbols in religious and cultural life. Then the forms of visualization of symbolic values in the painting by I Dewa Nyoman Batuan are visualization in the form of the puppet world, flora and fauna, and visualization in the form of a round mandala. The content of these symbolic values has implications for social life, culture, religion, and the life of art itself. Interesting findings obtained in this study are factually this study found that the mandala painting art by I Dewa Nyoman Batuan has advantages, namely the content of symbolic values, in its presentation there is an integration pattern between internal factors called taksu with environmental factors. This can be seen from the genes passed down by his grandfather I Dewa Nyoman Batuan, who was also a painter, and then supported by the environment where Pengosekan Village is a center for painting crafts that shape the personality of I Dewa Nyoman Batuan as a painter with character. Meanwhile, the theoretical findings affirm aesthetic theory, semiotic theory, and value theory in the sense that the three theories also seem to apply in this research location

Abstract

Human harmony is being tested, divisive issues are rife, triggered by SARA elements and often viral, through social media news and mass media. Almost all lines have decreased in quality, especially in terms of empathy. The symbolic humanizing of humans is killed through the emergence of orientation worsening, humans who take refuge in spiritual words. As if what they state becomes absolute symbolic truth, and those who differ from their views are wrong. The wave of disruption makes a vibration of inner awareness, that humans must immediately clean up. One reflection is to create a sense of tolerance. Through a wide space of religious moderation, it will create religious harmony. Abstract

Every religion believed by the community has its own tradition or culture, as the identity of the community. Culture is one of the reflections that maintain world civilization. So that the existence of human wisdom is maintained, one of the cultures that still exists from the Toraja tribe which is very unique is the Rambu Solo Ceremony. The uniqueness of the Rambu Solo Ceremony is the technique of treating the bodies of people who have died, in this case some are buried, some are preserved first in chests, some are stored in caves, and some are stored in special houses or burrows. The Rambu Solo ceremony also makes animal sacrifice offerings, including buffaloes and pigs in fantastic numbers, the animal offerings number up to hundreds of heads, and have an economic value of hundreds of millions and even billions of rupiah. This practice is an effort to give the last respect to the ancestors, where this custom or Rambu Solo Ceremony is a traditional funeral ritual that must be carried out by the Aluk Todolo community, this ceremony is an itangible cultural heritage, which is a custom that has been passed down for years from their ancestors. This then attracts the author to answer these three problems: (1) Why the Ethnopedagogy of Rambu Solo Ceremony in Toraja Hindu community can survive, (2) How is the process of Ethnopedagogy of Rambu Solo Ceremony, (3) How is the implication of Ethnopedagogy of Rambu Solo Ceremony on knowledge, attitude, and behavior of Toraja Hindu community. Research objectives: (1) To analyze the survival of Rambu Solo Ceremony Ethnopedagogy in Toraja Hindu community, (2) To analyze the process of Rambu Solo Ceremony Ethnopedagogy, (3) To analyze the implication of Rambu Solo Ceremony Ethnopedagogy. Three theories are used in this research: (1) structural functionalism theory, (2) constructivistic theory, and (3) meaningful learning theory. This type of research is qualitative, how to determine informants by purposive sampling, data collection techniques include: Observation, interview, document study, and literature study. The results of this research analysis strengthen the postulates of structural functionalism theory where the Rambu Solo Ceremony is not only a religious ritual, but an educational process that plays an important role in maintaining the social and cultural structure of society, this is in line with the AGIL scheme (Adaptation, Goal attaement, Integration, and Latency), but has not been able to fully overcome the external situation (latency) which can eliminate the ethnopedagogical existence of the Rambu Solo Ceremony.

After living nomads, humans decided to settle down and colonize and form a culture, quoting Harari (2022: 1) Homo sapiens began to form a more complicated structure called culture, from this human culture is called history. The growth of culture coexists with the growth of religion. Religion for humans is expected to be able to explore all the potential of humanity so that it can foster self-awareness.
