Abstract

Most of the community while preservation of food using refrigeration machines and chemicals, which less attention to hygiene. The storage space made of wood, glass or plastic where are almost airtight except the refrigerators which have poor air circulation and it cause of cross-contamination and also triggers bacteria growth, virus and fungi that cause decay and also disease source. These problems encourage the researchers to make a hygienic food storage space by consider the air circulation which is given an air purifier natural ingredients combinations that absorb pollutants, heavy metals, and anti-microbials. The air purifier ingredients which expected are original bamboo charcoal active, and red ginger. To make the air purifier can work effectively, a certain balanced composition is needed. The research method used is an experimental method where food ingredients are stored in a space where the air circulation is coated with a particle layer of original bamboo charcoal activate and red ginger rhizome with different compositions. The material used are mixture of charcoal and ginger rhizome by making an air purifier derived from activated charcoal from ori bamboo waste at a certain percentage of charcoal maturity. After that the product will be tested in food storage space with tofu for the food sample. In this research, the composition combination of ori bamboo charcoal active with red ginger extract was 4:0, 3:1, 2:2, 1;3, 0:4 where the ori bamboo charcoal active was used with a maturity percentage of 50%, 75%, 100 %. From the results of the research, it was found that the samples stored without using the filter grew with microbes after the second day, the samples that were filtered with the composition of activated charcoal only grew microbes on the third day and there was a change in the shape of the filter, namely the aqueous filter. Samples with a composition of activated charcoal with varying maturity and ginger extract began to grow with microbes after the fourth day. The best filter results using 100% mature activated charcoal with a composition of activated charcoal and ginger extract, which is 2:2. Microbes that can still grow in that composition are Bacillus substilis but in small quantities and no viruses or other microbes are found.

Abstract

The study intends to acquire travel time behavior needed by Malang-Denpasar intercity bus (AKAP) considering sailing time of Ketapang-Gilimanuk. This research is a new thing to find out the inter-city bus travel time between islands. Where in this study the bus route connects the island of Java with the island of Bali. The interesting thing is that the travel time during the crossing at the port is part of the overall travel time identification. In addition, the presentation method using a trajectory table for inter-city bus travel routes is a more interesting presentation. Travel time of the bus is achieved by moving observer method (actual survey) where the surveyor is on the bus to track the travel. Interview is also conducted to get the experience of the respondents. The results are displayed in trajectory curve to present travel speed in each segment. In this study there are limitations that were carried out due to limited resources. This survey was only conducted in one round trip and 2 surveyors were mobilized. And what was noted during the survey was more about the travel time aspect. The results of this study provide an overview of travel time in outbound and inbound. In addition, the delay time that occurs during the trip is also identified. Actual survey shows that outbound journey is longer (13.9 hours) than inbound (11.13 hours). Delay time of outbound is 3.16 hours while that of inbound is 1.28 hours. Interview results longer travel time than that of actual survey. While sailing time of Ketapang and Gilimanuk harbour satisfies the minimum standard.

Abstract

Refrigerant is substance or chemical composition which alternately compressed and condensed into a liquid and then expanded into vapor or gas when pumped through the cooling system. Alternative refrigerants are needed to replace full the halogenated refrigerants which are believed to contribute to ozone depletion in the atmosphere. In the last decade, many research and development of studies on the synthesis and characterization alternative refrigerants have been carried out. With replace a limited Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS) with any alternative can involve major changes in the design of various components such as insulation, lubricants, heat exchangers and motors. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of hydrogen mixture with refrigerant R134a on the pressure of each component. This research used an experimental method on a direct cooling device. The data which obtained from the experimental results on this cooling machine then will process to determine the pressure that occurs in each component of the cooling machine. Based on the results of this research, the effect of the hydrogen mixture on refrigerant R134a on the performance of the cooling machine is the differences density of each mixture ratio. If more of hydrogen additions there, the density of result mixture also getting smaller. This will affect the pressure that occurs in the compressor because the relationship between density and pressure is directly proportional. The conclusion is the refrigerant from a mixture of hydrogen gas and Freon R134a is suitable for use as a refrigerant for air condition. Because at 60 minutes, the mixture ratio of 85%:15% can reduce the water temperature slowly until 20.2ºC. The slow cooling is felt bad when applied on the food preservation.

Abstract

AbstractThis study discusses the improvement of the power factor in the Glenmore Sugar Industry electrical system. Low power factor can be caused by variations in inductive loads. This has an impact on large currents and high reactive power so that a black out can occur in the Glenmore Sugar Industry electrical system. Low power factor is corrected with the most effective Costum Power Devices, namely Static Var Compensator (SVC) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). The evaluated and corrected load buses are those with low power factor. The simulation results show in the application of SVC for the lowest results, power factor increased from 0.76 to 0.78 with reactive power values in the range from + 1.6 to – 0.64 MVAR. The power factor increased from 0.76 to 0.85 with reactive power values in the range from +4.9 to –1.9 MVAR. And for the highest results, the power factor increased from 0.82 to 0.92 with reactive power values in the range from +3.9 to –1.5 MVAR.The application of STATCOM can increase the power factor with reactive power values in the range from +4.9 to – 0.994 MVAR, +1.6 to -0.32 MVAR and +3.9 to -0.7875 MVAR. Keywords – Power factor, SVC, STATCOM, Reactive power, Industry.

Abstract

The composites materials are known for their flexibility due to the combinations of two or three different materials and manipulation of their compositions. The advantage offered by composite materials make it suitable for biomedical applications especially to be used for implants. There are three types of composites biocompatible materials namely Metal Matrix Composite (MMC), Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) and Polymer Matrix Composite (PMC). In order to produce the biocompatible composite materials, various manufacturing processes can be performed. The manufacturing processes of MMCs are stir casting and powder metallurgy; the typical manufacturing process for CMCs is powder metallurgy; and 3-D printing by synthesizing and cross-linking the networks is used for fabricating PMCs. One of the promising biocompatible composites is Hydroxyapatite Mineralized Collagen (HMC). The HMC is used to create bone scaffold in bone regeneration process. The suggested manufacturing process for HMC is hybrid process which collaborate Additive Manufacturing and CNC Machining. In this paper, the HMC is reviewed especially related with its properties, fabrication method, and existed experimentation. In addition, the three types of biocompatible composites are also discussed on the applications and its manufacturing processes.

Abstract

The condenser is a device used to change the water vapor phase that has been used to rotate the turbine blade into a liquid phase by condensing it. When the condenser tube is dirty, it can disrupt the steam condensation process which affects the efficiency of the condenser. To overcome this problem a condenser backwash is carried out.  Condenser backwash has a good influence on unit efficiency but backwash activities also reduce production by decreasing vacuum condensers and steam turbine loads. When the vacuum condenser backwash process decreases + - 24 mmHg and the steam turbine load decreases + - 8 MW.The condenser backwash process is carried out from the control room with the observation of parameters from the local area or equipment. Backwash condensers are done one by one as needed. The condenser type in PLTGU Grati Block I is a type of crossflow with two sides, namely, side A and side B. Each side of the condenser has a different sequence backwash condition. This study will be carried out a backwash method that is different from the sequence of automatic sequences. In the normal condenser backwash activity of data table 3 we can know there is a decrease in steam turbine load ± 8MW and a decrease in vacuum ± 24 mmHg. This is because at a certain period the condenser performance is reduced because at the time of switching valve one side of the condenser is not irrigated by seawater so that the heat transfer in the condenser is reduced which has an impact on a load of steam turbine and vacuum condenser. After the research was obtained that the greater the opening of the valve inlet when the condenser backwash then the decrease in vacuum and steam turbine load decreased even no decrease in load. The backwash method that can be done to keep the vacuum condenser and steam turbine load stable is by maneuvering the valve inlet, outlet, and condenser backwash valve. The results of the analysis obtained were a more stable decrease in steam turbine production in 0 MW and a decrease in the vacuum of 14 mmHg.
