Abstract

This study is motivated by the problem of students’ low mastery of mufrodat (vocabulary) and their learning motivation in Arabic language subjects, which are often perceived as boring. The study aims to describe the implementation of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method, its effectiveness in improving vocabulary mastery, and to identify inhibiting factors in its application among eighth-grade students at MTs Al-Muttaqin Besitang. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of TPR through the stages of introduction, demonstration, and random commands successfully created a dynamic and enjoyable learning atmosphere. This method proved effective in enhancing students’ memory retention and comprehension of vocabulary meanings through physical movement associations, as well as increasing students’ enthusiasm and active participation in class. However, there were several inhibiting factors, primarily micro-instructional issues such as the teacher’s fast speech tempo and unclear movement modeling, along with environmental constraints such as limited classroom space. The study concludes that the TPR method is highly relevant for the characteristics of active madrasah students, but improvements are needed in the aspects of instructional delivery and classroom management to achieve more optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and measure the effectiveness of the Rotating Games technique in improving students’ Arabic vocabulary retention at the “Excellent Language” dormitory, Zaid bin Thabit boys’ area, Nurul Jadid Islamic Institute, during the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. The research employed a mixed methods approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative methods within a case study framework to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the game’s impact on vocabulary learning. A sequential exploratory design was applied, beginning with qualitative data collection through observation and interviews to examine the implementation process, students’ responses, and lecturers’ perspectives. This stage was followed by quantitative data collection using pre-tests and post-tests to measure vocabulary retention objectively. The research sample consisted of 10 students from one class who participated in both tests. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary retention after the implementation of the Rotating Games. Quantitative analysis using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test with SPSS revealed statistically significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores in favor of the post-test. Qualitative findings supported these results, showing increased learning motivation, more active participation, and greater confidence in using vocabulary during language interaction. The study concludes that the Rotating Games technique is an interactive and effective strategy for enhancing Arabic vocabulary retention and creating a motivating learning environment, particularly in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Wordwall affected students' mastery of Arabic sentence structure at MTs Negeri 2 Kota Serang, particularly in terms of the number of ismiyyah and fi'liyah. This study not only measured the effect of Wordwall but also examined how to optimize its use by integrating appropriate game types and feedback features to enhance students’ mastery of ismiyyah and fi‘liyah sentence structures. Traditional teaching methods and the lack of interactive digital media resulted in low syntactic ability among students, which motivated this study. Wordwall, a game-based learning platform, is considered to be able to increase student engagement and understanding through visual and audio activities and instant feedback. A quantitative method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest quasi-experimental design was used in this study. The research sample consisted of 32 students. The tools used included learning outcome tests and perception questionnaires, which had been tested for validity and reliability using the SPSS program. The results showed a significant increase in the mastery of Arabic sentence structure, with an average pretest score of 53.66 and a posttest score of 93.25, and a paired sample t-test showed a significance value of p = 0.000. On the other hand, Cohen's effect size of 3.66 indicated a very large practical effect. The high survey results show that students' perceptions of the use of Wordwall are also positive. Based on the research that has been conducted, Wordwall can be used as a digital learning tool in madrasahs and has a significant impact on students' mastery of Arabic sentence structure.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the resilience of students in mastering Arabic vocabulary (mufradat) among eighth-grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Islamiyah Medan. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects were eighth-grade students, with Arabic teachers as supporting informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The results showed that student resilience was reflected in active perseverance, courage in facing mistakes, emotional regulation skills, and readiness to adjust learning strategies when facing difficulties in mastering mufradat. This resilience is formed through the interaction of internal factors, such as religious motivation and self-confidence, as well as external factors in the form of support from teachers, peers, and a supportive madrasah environment. This study confirms that resilience plays an important role in the successful mastery of vocabulary and needs to be strengthened through adaptive and supportive Arabic language learning practices.
