Abstract

Humour functions as a critic, satire, irony or propaganda. By using humour, it is posible to say the truth elegantly and sofly, without disturbing others’ feeling. In pragmatic comunication theory, humour is created from deviations of comunication principles, e.g: Grice principle of comunication and Leech principle of comunication. This research uses the jokes on the former leader of Libyan Mu’ammar al-Qażāfi as the object material. Mu’ammar al-Qażāfi was the leader of controversy as well as he was a dictator. Then, there are assumptions that the humours about al-Qażāfi are not only about entertaiment but also about special aims. The researcher uses pragmatic analysis that covers Grice cooperative principle, Leech politeness principle and speech acts (illocutionary act). The results are that political humour in Libyan was a new kind of humour and it was developed while the revolution was on and in the aftermath. While Ilocutionart Acts, which are found in the humours about al-Qażāfi, are irony, claiming, ordering, complaining, and satiring. The aims in the humours are satire and irony.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are (1) to describe the deviation of meaning in Cak Lontong’s humor materials (2) to describe the changing of constituent in Cak Lontong’s humor materials. This research is a descriptive-qualitative research. Listening method is used as the  data collecting technique, using technique of tap and write. The data analysis method is the reference equalization, using comparative technique to support codification, reduction, presentation, and interpretation. The results of this research are: Cak Lontong exploits gaps and possibilities of new meanings that can be used in words; Cak Lontong deviates meanings by establishing the second meaning as an effort to give surprise to his listeners; and Cak Lontong exploits figurative words of homonymy, e.g. “mengarungi” and “ngurusi” to play the meanings that are conveyed in using the language. The power of Cak Lontong’s humor is in the sensitivity in finding gaps of words, then presenting them by trapping listener’s interpretation to the unintended meanings. A changing constituent occurs to function of process to be participant, participant to participant, participant to circumstances, and circumstances to circumstances. It changes meanings and interpretations of a same word.

This research is aimed at finding patterns of arguments of argumentative paragraphs in the discussion parts of accredited economic journal articles. The research result shows that patterns of arguments can be differetiated into six, namely (1) Claim-Data; (2) Claim–Data 1–Data 2; (3) Data–Claim; (4) Data 1 – Data 2 – Claim; (5) Data 1– Data 2 – Data 3 – Data 4 – Data 5- Warrant – Claim; (6) Data 1 – Data 2 – Claim – Data 3 – Data 4 – Data 5. Thus it can be concluded that argument patterns of economic journal articles must be continuously increased. The effort of increasing quality of journal articles is considered urgent since Indonesian scientists who contribute ideas through writing journal articles will automatically increase scientific participation in the academic realm broadly.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sentences based on the basic sentence patterns of Indonesian and predicate calculus. These approaches put the predicate as a core component in the sentence structure. The object of study is focused on declarative sentences of Indonesian. The data analysis consists of several stages. Basic sentence patterns of Indonesian consist of identifying the type of sentences, identifying the elements forming sentences, and putting on elements which are based on basic sentence patterns of Indonesian. Predicate calculus consists of identifying atomic or compound propositions, determining the predicate and other components, defining a form of expression predicate calculus, and making a notation function. The results showed that the basic sentence pattern analysis only identifies the internal elements in a single sentence, while the predicate calculus can as well identifies the internal elements of a single or compound sentence.
