Abstract

Autonomous learning is an important attitude that students should have so that they do not depend on others and can be disciplined and responsible, especially in writing description text. Descriptive text aims to describe an object or event in writing. The low autonomous learning of elementary school students' writing skills is caused by the ineffective learning methods used. This study aims to determine the effect of the guided writing method assisted by picture cards on autonomous learning skills in writing description text. The research used a quantitative approach of quasi-experimental type with a non-equivalent control group design. The study population was third-grade elementary school students in Gugus VI Gianyar in the 2024/2025 school year. The sample of 49 students was selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed by independent sample t-test. The results of the analysis showed tcount 6.832 > ttable 2.012. Thus, H₀ is rejected, and Hₐ is accepted. In conclusion, the guided writing method assisted by picture cards effectively improves autonomous learning of students' description text writing skills. This study expands the understanding of how incremental learning combined with visual aids can enhance autonomous learning and expressive ability in young learners. In addition, this study provides teachers with replicable and student-centred teaching strategies suitable for implementation in real classrooms.

Abstract

This study examines Charlotte Lucas’ marriage in Pride and Prejudice through a Marxist-feminist lens. Elizabeth Bennet’s romantic autonomy is often celebrated. This study highlights Charlotte’s pragmatic marriage as a strategic response to the constraints of class and gender that interact with each other. This study aims to examine Charlotte Lucas's socio-economic choices in Pride and Prejudice from a Marxist-Feminist perspective, highlighting the relationship between social class, economy, and gender in marriage decision-making. Through a thematic reading supported by Fraser’s three-dimensional theory of economic, cultural, and political justice and Walby’s intersectional theory of systems of oppression, this study argues that Charlotte’s choices reflect constrained agency shaped by structural constraints rather than passive obedience. Austen’s narrative is interpreted as a critique of the capitalist-patriarchal order that governs women’s lives by positioning Charlotte not as a submissive individual but as a figure navigating the struggle to survive within an oppressive social framework. In conclusion, Charlotte Lucas’ socio-economic choices in the novel Pride and Prejudice reflect the condition of women who are structurally marginalized in a patriarchal and capitalist society, where marriage is the only safe path to survival. The implication is that Charlotte Lucas’ socio-economic choices reflect the reality of middle-class women constrained by patriarchal systems and economic pressures in 19th-century English society. Through a Marxist-Feminist perspective, this study highlights how marriage becomes a survival strategy driven by class inequality and women’s economic dependence on men.

Abstract

Low vocabulary mastery and lack of confidence in speaking English are major obstacles in the learning process. Students often have difficulty expressing ideas verbally due to limitations in their vocabulary. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing Drama-Based Pedagogy in improving students' vocabulary mastery through speaking skills by involving students' critical and creative thinking abilities (C4–C6). This study is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a two-cycle design consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were one class of ninth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and oral tests (pre-test, cycle 1, and cycle 2). The instruments used included observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and oral test assessment sheets. The data analysis techniques used were quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods to examine changes in scores and students' and teachers' responses to the learning process. The results of the study showed an increase in the average vocabulary mastery score from 53.2 in the pre-test to 72.2 at the end of cycle 1, and reached 81.3 at the end of cycle 2. Interviews with students and teachers indicated that this approach provided an enjoyable, contextual learning experience and motivated students to actively speak. The conclusion of this study indicates that Drama-Based Pedagogy effectively improves vocabulary mastery while building students' confidence in speaking English. The implications of this study are that teachers may consider this approach as an alternative in interactive English language learning strategies focused on enhancing speaking skills.

Abstract

Teaching strategies have evolved along with curriculum changes, especially in English language teaching. Each teacher has different preferences regarding their teaching strategies. Various factors, including the length of teaching experience, influence these differences. However, few studies still discuss the preferences of teaching strategies used by novice and experienced teachers in teaching English, especially in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to describe these preferences at SMPN. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through a checklist of teaching strategies, observations, and in-depth interviews. The subjects of this study consisted of one novice English teacher and one experienced English teacher. The results showed that both teachers applied different teaching strategies. Therefore, this study is expected to be a practical reference for choosing teaching strategies that suit the needs of students and efforts to improve the quality of education. In conclusion, there are significant differences in teaching strategy preferences between novice and experienced teachers. The implication is that the results of this study can serve as a reference for educational institutions in designing teacher development programs that emphasize hands-on practice and collaborative observation.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low interest of students in learning Indonesian in elementary schools, which is caused by monotonous learning methods and the lack of use of interesting learning media. The main objective of this study is to test the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by e-comics media on the learning interest of fifth grade students. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The study was conducted in elementary schools with a sample of 71 students, consisting of an experimental class (n = 37) and a control class (n = 34). Data collection was carried out using a learning interest questionnaire developed based on indicators of student enjoyment, interest, attention, and involvement, and has been validated by experts. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and independent sample t-tests to see significant differences between the two groups. The results showed that the experimental group that received PBL learning assisted by e-comics had a higher average learning interest than the control group. It can be concluded that the integration of the PBL model and e-comic media is effective in increasing students' interest in learning Indonesian. This finding implies that innovative, student centered learning models supported by digital visual media need to be considered in the elementary school curriculum. Implications of the research shows that the integration of problem based learning approaches with e-comic media is able to increase student involvement, motivation, and understanding of learning materials.
