Abstract

Service industry posts many improvement opportunities in supply chain system, adopting from the experiences in manufacturing industry. Though some global and local giant corporation has begun implementing a more systematic and complex supply chain system in the firm, the sustainability of the implementation is still in a challenging stage. This is highly due to the infant characteristic that the system bears in the new industries. Cost and quality constraints demands for service supply chain management in Malaysia's service firms to mature quickly in today's highly paced technological world. This includes on time delivery, raw material inventory control, planning, and quality control in service. Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze dairy food industry and to determine the priorities of important logistics requirements (LR) based on customer requirements as a part of a supply management system. For product or service development, quality function deployment (QFD) is a useful approach to maximize customer satisfaction. The determination of the priorities of the LR is an important issue during QFD process for product or service design. For this reason, in this work, an integrated approach integrating fuzzy logic and QFD methods is proposed to identify and prioritize the LR in dairy food industry for the improvement of customer satisfaction. In addition, a case study in Turkish dairy food industry is given to illustrate the proposed approach for potential readers.

Abstract

This study provides a complete framework to define and classify the value that firms can attain by their closed-loop supply chains (CLSC) and analyzes the role of information systems (IS) in this process. We present a novel typology to identify the four value types a firm can generate in CLSCs, namely sourcing, environmental, customer, and informational value. Particularly the last two types have not been recognized in literature. We adopt a case methodology and analyze 8 cases to illustrate the generation of each value type through CLSCs and highlight the role that IS play in this value generation. We ground our analysis on the integrative model of IT business value in [30] which considers the role of external business partners, which is essential to CLSCs. We find 3 key results: (1) IS is an essential enabler for all value types, (2) while sourcing value and to some extent environmental value, can be created with IS internal to the firm, the novel value types (customer and informational) can only be created with extraorganizational IS, (3) the value created by extraorganizational systems can only be created if the appropriate intraorganizational systems are in place. Our findings show that substantial value can be gained from implementing IS in CLSCs but stakeholder collaboration is necessary to reap the full value. This is an important managerial insight for the firms who still consider CLSC activities as costly and do not notice all the benefits that they can obtain from CLSCs.

Abstract

In this paper, the efficiency Curve model shown in Modelling the Supply Chain (Author: Shapiro) is modified to compare Crude oil supply chain among Indonesia, Russia and Columbiabased on oil transportation distances and associated cost, refinery costs, and the costs associated with refinery sustainability and pipeline quality. However this model was originally used to determine the optimal locations of distribution centres based on transportation cost and the capacity of the distribution centres, this model was modified to allow the use of different costs associated with the quality condition of the pipeline and the costs of sustaining an environmentally friendly facility. This case used to optimize the total cost of oil supply chain for Indonesia, Russia and Columbia. We seek to extend our previous supply chain model, which represent the outbound oil supply chain. The outputs of this paper are efficiency curve that show how the costs of pipeline quality and facility sustainability affect the overall costs of the oil industry of Indonesia, Russia and Columbia. Abstract

Considering high competitive nature of todays industries,being on plan is very vital for supply chain network of an organization. Allthe flows of materials from initial suppliers to final customers need to besmooth. Hence, distribution network design is an important strategic decisionproblem for the supply chain managers. The aim of this research is to propose a web-based Decision Support System (DSS) foroptimizing fuzzy distribution network in the context of supply-chain management. A fuzzy goal-programming model has been designedfor the proposed DSS to consider the uncertain and imprecise data. Thisresearch focuses on four conflict fuzzy goals of (i). all demands must be covered by distribution center, (ii).investment goals for opening new sites considering fix costs, (iii). Investmentgoals for opening new distribution centers considering fix costs, (iv). Supplycosts goals, to meet the optimized results. Hence with those attributes ofmembership function of goals, the decision makers can apply this model toobtain the investment policy and the achieved level of each individual goal.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to explore the peer-reviewed literature on green supply chain practices and green supply chain performance with the intention of characterizing the research methodologies used in these areas of research. In line with this objective, the constructs “Green Supply Chain Practices” and “Green Supply Chain Performance” were identified. As indicated by the literature already published there seems to be certain set of methodologies which have mostly been used and that too frequently. Accordingly, there is a need to do a more detailed study that can pinpoint particular research methodologies that are usually used in research related to green supply chain practices and green supply chain performance. This paper attempts to achieve the aim by using a keyword search for identifying papers related to green supply chain practices and green supply chain performance. Finally the methodologies used are summarized in order of their usage in order to characterize the research methodologies used in linking green supply chain practices and green supply chain performance. This will help newer research work to flow in the right direction without reinventing the wheel and also it will act as a ready reference for newer research work to practicing managers.

Abstract

The research represents a case study on Bangladesh retail supermarket. The study demonstrates the intricacies of warehouse management practice. It elaborates the dynamics of retail supply chain and the spiral affects how warehouse can play a significant role. In addition to this, the study identifies external factors, market trends, and possible barriers which influence the overall performance of warehouse operation. The paper is based on secondary data that encompassed three major retail chains in Bangladesh. The paper also reveals opportunities to improve warehouse performances in terms of planning, design and operation. The authors demonstrate some recommendations for industry practitioners to achieve a higher level of productivity in warehouse management

Abstract

Identifying the proper supply chain practices and metrics is highly essential to check and balance the normal health condition of any organization. This paper deals with the possible qualitative supply chain practices and metrics which are tested on 5 Ethiopian Alcohol and Liquor manufacturing supply chains. The practices and metrics are derived from literatures made by the authors. To further clarify the supply chain metrics, questionnaire is designed and distributed to different levels of managers of the companies to formulate hypothesis. Using the right metrics, the significance of hypothesis is tested using SPSS 16.0 and MINITAB 16.1 software. For item reliability, Cronbachs alpha test was calculated to all items arranged in a five point Likert scale, and the test result shows the reliability of the items. The results in between groups and within groups are compared using analysis of variances. The results show that the majority of the practices and metrics the companies differ among and within the companies and concluded that the supply chain practices and metrics are not uniform in Ethiopian supply chains.

Abstract

The volume of the data and information traffic generated in warehouse management operations is extremely high. They are driven by such frequent events as attempts to locate inventory status files, associated inventory location and integration of specific customer order status tables (such as order payment, and order fulfillment status). The information technology infrastructure required to handle large data volume is expensive with additional cost for complex operations, limiting the operations of small businesses. In addition, any compromise with the infrastructure design may have further implications on the data storage and retrieval affecting productivity. In this research, we seek to investigate the feasibility of a Cloud-based warehouse management system (WMS) that continuously and autonomously captures RFID tagged inventory and distributes data handling processes. The purpose of this research paper is to investigate a RFID based WMS (R-WMS) application for mobile devices, including smart phones (such as iPhone, Android, Microsoft Mobile Phone, HTC smart phone, Blackberry, etc) and other handhold smart devices (such as iPad and some light/portable TabletPC) exchanging real-time information through the cloud which is being used to make near optimal decisions and send information back in an acceptable time period. In order to research these possibilities, there is a need to investigate the capacity and dynamic adjustment of workloads for reducing costs and saving energy. Further development of a mobile application of such data intensive operations necessitates exclusive multiple regression data manipulating techniques to provide the most critical information for decision makers. The broader impact of this research paper is the enhancement of mobile user capabilities driving improved productivity. This research will also add to the development of novel warehouse management techniques impacting world-wide business operations helping to realize the world is flatter than anticipated. Further, this multi-disciplinary research will enhance the Computer Science, Industrial and Systems Engineering curriculums by providing greater exposure to emerging areas in supply chain management, mobile computing, operations research, and cloud architecture and computing. The intellectual merit from this research will include ramifications on cloud-based mobile computing, which is the future of modern business operations. This research will train undergraduate and graduate students from both computer science and industrial engineering in the field of supply chain, logistics, mobile computing, and cloud computing. Abstract

Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been widely used in varieties of decision making processes among several alternatives, where data on pair-wise comparisons are aggregated and the degree of importance of each alternative is quantified. The process of assigning importance or priorities against the alternatives has inherent limitations, which lead to higher possibility of inconsistency. This paper focuses on two basic limitations of the AHP, first one is its inconsistency generated from huge comparisons in judgment matrix and the second one is the use of ‘ranking weightages’ given by AHP. To eliminate these limitations, this research paper recommends to calculate relative importance among alternatives from the ratings assigned from “Likert scale” to form a “suggestion matrix” with zero percent CR before judgment matrix which gives privilege to decision makers to change relative importance within the range of CR.  This process intensifies the effectiveness of AHP by reducing time consumption through optimizing inconsistency.
