Abstract

Agriculture production planning must aims at sustainability and progress at the same time. Production policy has farmers, government officials, political party, inputs for production, finance, market demand and pace of development as drivers for policy formulation. Selection of crops sequence in a geographical area is very difficult as it has sustainability parameter inbuilt in to policy. DSS can assist the policy planners to get different baskets of options for choosing the best SMART basket of option. The variation of rain- fall, climatic factors, and market trend of different crops have been considered to frame the basket of crops options to be grown in a hilly district of Odisha, India. The DSS formulation has inbuilt mechanisms for blending of the qualitative and quantitative parameters used in crop sequence planning in the agricultural policy. With reduction in rainfall, there is a chance that the paddy crop growing may not be feasible. Some low water requiring crops are used to determine the other basket of option. Under present context, KBK region of Odisha, India with less rain fall can have the best alternate crop as per the residual moisture has been found to be pulses crop for hilly area of the state. Similarly the area with higher rainfall can have paddy paddy cropping pattern as per present practice. However there is scope for cash crops like maize, groundnut in the crop sequence. Abstract

The problems in the telecom service industry arequite visible now a days and the pace of new technology development within thisindustry is extremely high. The telecom industry is selected for review,analysis and research because it is of fast changing, multiple product variantand high volume business environment with a lot of focus on new technologydevelopment and speedy implementation of new ideas and innovations in to newproducts. Especially, BSNL has taken for focus area because it has a secondmajor market share in Indian market along with its sister concern publicsectors like MTNL (Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited) and TCIL (TelecomCorporation of India Limited). The scope of this research is to studyoptimizing availability of both new existing, and multiple verifiedtechnologies. The literature review highlighted in this paper discusses somemajor issues and challenges in supply chain management system. In this context,this paper aims at relating the theories and principles of supply chainmanagement system that could be used in practice in the telecom serviceindustry especially in BSNL. The paper presents comparisons between themanufacturing and the telecom service industry with special reference to BSNL,a public sector of Govt. of India. The comparison resulted that SCM is wellcontained in any service sector may be private or public sector.

Abstract

The manufacturing industry in Pakistan ispassing through a critical phase of its history. In the changing market placeconsumer are increasingly vigilant and demanding better quality, morecompetitive prices and shorter lead times. Maintaining cost effectivemanufacturing along with it distribution to the different customers across thecountry is becomes challenging day by day. In this paper, we propose anadditional new warehouse location in Pakistan using transportation cost as adecision factor. Initially the proposed warehouse will be run by the third partywarehouse service provider on temporary basis, so that it lower down theinventory level of Lahore warehouse from 0.4 million liters to 0.2 millionliters, saves approximately 1.5 Million Rs. / year with improved customerservice .

Abstract

In recent years,multinationals developed close relationship with customers by integrating theminto NPD process which reduced switching and increased satisfaction. While SMEsfaced severe breakdowns due to product failures led by customerdissatisfaction. A reason for this switching is prohibition of customerintegration into NPD process. Within this context, the objective is to identifythose potential reasons which become the source of non-integration. Data forthis study was derived for a survey carried out in 25 SMEs (apparel). Anexploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, ANOVA and descriptive statswere utilized to discover the potential of various barriers. Out of allbarriers, lack of awareness, trust and compatibility were potential barriersfound positively related with non-integration. Non/less experienced firmsshowed lack of awareness which led them to lack of trust while experiencedfirms lacked flexibility in integrating customers. Locally operating SMEsshowed lack of awareness and trust while firms at regional level were foundmore aware but refused the importance of integration. This study is focusing oncustomer integration into the SMEs sector has many implications forprofessionals and organizations.

Abstract

This paper deals with a new model, in which the stationary demand for a product can be fulfilled by remanufactured products along with newly procured product leading to minimum consumption of virgin raw materials. The remanufactured products are assumed to be as good as new ones and the returned items from the customers can be remanufactured at a fixed rate. The model helps in maintaining the goodwill of the customers by not allowing frequent stock outs by providing safety stock. A model is proposed and analyzed depending on the relationship between different parameters. An interpretive modelling based approach has been employed to model the reverse logistics variables typically found in reverse supply chains. A methodology is used for the calculation of optimum level for the newly manufactured items and the optimum level of the returned items for remanufacturing simultaneously. The major objective is to minimize the waste and gain the competitive advantage of cost of conversion. Moreover the company can sustain in the same line of business for a longer period of time. Abstract

The empirical research, based on primary and secondary data, represents the overall fish distribution system of Bangladesh with particular emphasis to the extent of value addition during the process of distribution. The data depicts the dynamics of relevant value-chains in fishing industry in Bangladesh that presents one of the developing countries in the world. This study encompasses the supply chain model of distribution of the fishing industry. The researchers demonstrate the distribution channel and the linkages between the relative benefits obtained as well as the outcome from the chain. This paper, which was based on the survey research technique, also highlights comparisons between domestic and regional value-chains with the view to understand better how developing countries can increase the value derived from their fishery resources. Consequently, the authors defined some recommendations and propose a new model which is free from the influence of the intermediate parties of any private sector and can reduce the usage of preservatives and increase the economical growth of all stakeholders' those are involved in the fishing industry.

Abstract

The value stream mapping is a lean production technique used by Toyota Production System (TPS) to visualize and design flow of information, material and production for analyze non-value added and value added operations. In this paper, the method of value stream mapping (VSM) was revealed by literature investigation and an application in a lean manufacturer firm. It is shown that efforts on effective use of source with prevention of waste source in production and increasing value added (VA) operations. In the first part, value stream mapping technique was explained and literature review presented. Second part includes the application study in the electric water heater line of a manufacturing firm. Value stream maps were drawn and therefore non-value added (NVA) works were determined and they had been eliminated in improved case. And last section of the study showed conclusion of lean implementation.

Abstract

Provided that energy consumption goes together with CO2 emissions and high production costs, multinational companies seek perpetually to implement the best practices in an effort to satisfy customers not in terms of fair prices, quality and quantity delivered but also in terms of delivering products that respect environmental regulations. It seems that it is no longer optional for companies to opt for environmental practices, while having two major reasons to remain cost efficient and customer seductive: their production processes will no more tolerate waste in energy and their customers are consciously more than ever seeking eco-friendly products. In this paper, we conduct a cost analysis based on a comparison traditional with eco-friendly technologies in manufacturing detergent products based on different sources of energy.

Abstract

Biomass transportation suffers from higher transportation costs and insufficient competition in terms of supply chain providers. The transportation network optimization is somewhat absent in biomass transportation and hence this sector is still subsidized in many states. Biomass transportation industry can be benefitted from utilizing intermodal facilities and various transportation modes. Availability of several modes introduces flexibility of routing and intermodal facility enables using several modes throughout the routes. Transportation network consisting intermodal facility connected with various modes along with various shipment options (direct shipment, transshipment, cross docking, consolidation etc.) among different stages of biomass transportation offer more alternative choices for consideration. Some of the alternative choices induce less cost with prolonged service time, some choices provide expedite delivery with higher cost, some choices maintain similar service level and on time delivery at a reasonable or moderate cost. Proper analysis of various routing options should be done in order to choose the most efficient one. In most of the cases, minimization of time leads toward a costly transportation, on the other hand cost saving routes requires more time to ship the order. This research endeavors to develop a methodology so that both of the objectives (i.e. minimization of transportation time and minimization of transportation cost) can be satisfied together to find out an optimal transportation solution. This paper considers the supply chain of cellulosic bio-diesel. This supply chain consists of harvesters, hub or storage facilities, preprocessing facilities and bio-refinery plant. Several modes of transportations and intermodal facilities are available in the supply chain. There are direct shipment and transshipment options too. This paper tried to develop a generic mathematical model to find out the optimal solution for both minimization of transportation cost and time. In this paper, excel solver is used to calculate the numbers of unit loads to be transported through various routes. Finally, it compares three solutions, out of which, one gives the minimum cost, another gives the minimum time and last one is the modification of second solution that costs less than the second one. The modification is done by choosing alternative cost saving routes without affecting the critical time. The recommended solution considers the trade-off between time and cost. It is expected, that this research will assist the decision maker of biomass industry to make smart choice in route and mode selection process.

Abstract

Many ERP systems on the market today follow some of the same guidelines based on the SCOR model. Through the various modules in each system, they implement the different aspects of the model in Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, and Return. Many of the activities in these systems are manual and prone to data entry mistakes forcing the system to be less reliable than it could be. RFID is a technology that has been used to reduce these errors and increase the speed at which the data is obtained and implemented in the system. It is hypothesized that by implementing RFID into specific components used in the modules in the ERP system that the technology will have an impact on the inventory value. The expected results will be that by implementing RFID technology, the inventory values will be reduced and prove to be beneficial.
