Abstract

Broiler chickens in Indonesia have good prospects to develop. However, there are many obstacles that must be faced by broiler breeders, such as soaring prices of feed and medicine, harvest prices that tend to fluctuate, and the outbreak of bird flu that has not yet been found.  The objective of the experiment was to investigate the effectiveness of treating broiler with temulawak and kunyit extracts to enhance productivity and as imunostimulator of avian influenza.  Broiler were given either temulawak, kunyit or temulawak+kunyit extracts. The treatments, including a control, were arranged in a factorial design. Variables measured were production index and immune titter with haemaglutination Inhibition (HI) test at 35 days of age.Results showet that control, temulawak, kunyit and temulawak+ kunyit treated chicken have production indexes of 302,10; 387,11; 324,52; and 354,70, respectively. Haemaglutination Inhibition (HI) test result were all negative. It can be concluded that neither temulawak, kunyit or temulawak+ kunyit extracts is effective immunostimulator of avian influenza in broiler. Nevertheless, temulawak-treated chicken showed highest production index.Key Words : Temulawak, Kunyit, Avian Influenza, Haemaglutination Inhibition

Abstract

In vitro fertilization technology in cows is an effort done to utilize ovary waste from cows slughtered in abbatoir. This study was aimed at assessing the qualiy of embryos resulted from in vitro fertilization by using frozen semen thawed in different temperatures. In order to get qualty semen, standardized thawing method is required. It was expected from this study that an optimum thawing temperature for frozen semen was determined to obtain quality transferable embryos. Three treatments consisting of thawing with water 37°C for 30 second (T1), thawing with water 25°C for 30 second (T2), and thawing with water 10°C for 30 second (T3). Data were subjected to an an anlysis of variance (Anova) and a Duncan test. Results showed that oocytes fertilized with frozen semen thawed at 37°C and 10°C had higher fertilization rate and excellent-grade embryos (P<0.05) than did the ones fertilized with frozen semen thawed at 25°C. However, no different effect of thawing temperatures was found on transferable and degenerated embryos (P>0.05). It was concluded that embryos fertilized with Brahman frozen semen in thawed at 37°C had the highest number of embryos (49.66±2.88) and excellent-grade embryos (22.00±4.35). Key words: Embryo quality, In vitro fertilization, frozen semen thawing, Brahman bull.

Abstract

Tingkat stress pada ternak akan mempengaruhi produksi telur. Unsur Cr berperan dalam proses metabolisme serta penting dalam fungsi kekebalan tubuh  dan mencegah stress. Peningkatan produksi telur dapat dilakukan dengan cara memanipulasi nutrisi ransum dengan menggunakan kromium. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji pengaruh penambahan kromium (Cr) organik dalam ransum terhadap performa produksi itik alabio. Ternak yang digunakan adalah 24 ekor itik alabio fase layer. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap dengan 3 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan. Ransum yang digunakan yaitu pakan komersil + Cr 0 ppm (R1), ransum komersil + 0,75 ppm (R1), dan pakan komersil + Cr1,5 ppm (R2). Peubah yang diamati adalah produksi telur, bobot telur, konsumsi ransum, dan konversi ransum. Pemberian ransum yang mengandung kromium organik dengan konsentrasi yang berbeda tidak berpengaruh terhadap produksi telur, bobot telur, dan konsumsi ransum tetapi berpengaruh terhadap konversi ransum.

Abstract

Salah satu cara untuk memperbaiki dan meningkatkan produktivitas ternak kelinci yaitu dengan cara memberikan air rebusan daun sirih sebagai antibiotik alami untuk memperlancar kerja sistem pencernaan ternak kelinci. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh pemberian air rebusan daun sirih dalam air minum terhadap performa kelinci lokal. Ternak yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kelinci lokal jantan lepas sapih yang berumur 2 bulan. Jumlah ternak yang digunakan sebanyak 24 ekor dengan bobot badan rata-rata 1.587±154,63 gram. Pakan yang digunakan adalah pakan komersil berbentuk pellet merk Indofeed K-03 Super. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap Faktorial (RALF), terdiri atas 6 perlakuan masing-masing 3 taraf dosis/jumlah daun sirih yang direbus dan 2 taraf waktu/lama perebusan dengan 4 ulangan. Perlakuan yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu faktor pertama (S) jumlah daun sirih sebanyak 3 taraf yaitu : S1 = 250 gram/liter, S2 = 200 gram/liter dan S3 = 150 gram/liter. Faktor kedua, lama perebusan (R) sebanyak 2 taraf yaitu : R1 = 10 menit dan R2 = 20 menit. Peubah yang diamati adalah konsumsi ransum, konsumsi air minum, pertambahan bobot badan, konversi ransum dan mortalitas. Data dianalisis dengan ANOVA dan apabila hasilnya berbeda nyata diuji dengan uji LSD dengan selang kepercayaan 95%. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pemberian air rebusan daun sirih terhadap performa kelinci lokal jantan tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05). Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan performa kelinci lokal tidak dipengaruhi oleh pemberian minum air rebusan daun sirih dengan konsentrasi dan periode rebus yang berbeda.

Abstract

Breast and thigh are the parts of duck carcass which are most commonly utilized and consumed by people.  These carcass parts consist of meat, skin, and bones.  This study was aimed at assessing the effects of the inclusion of torch ginger flower solution in commercial ration on live weight and percentages of carcass and its parts of male local ducks.  The study was conducted from June to August 2016 at Poultry Laboratory of Animal Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Djuanda University, Bogor.  Twenty-four male local ducks aged 2 weeks with average initial body weight of 450 ± 53.04 g were used.  A completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replicates was used.  Treatments consisted of commercial ration + 0% torch ginger flower solution (R0), commercial ration + 2.5% torch ginger flower solution (R1), commercial ration + 5.0% torch ginger flower solution (R2), and commercial ration + 7.5% torch ginger flower solution (R3).  Measurements were taken on the percentages of whole breast, breast meat, breast bones, whole thigh, thigh meat, and thigh bones.  Data were subjected to an analysis of variance and a Duncan test.  Results showed that treatments gave significant effect (P<0.05) on the percentage of thigh meat.  The inclusion of torch ginger flower solution in ration did not negatively affect carcass parts of male local ducks.  The inclusion of 7.5% torch ginger flower solution in commercial ration increased the percentage of whole breast.  It was also found that the inclusion of 5.0 and 7.5% torch ginger flower solution in commercial ration increased the percentage of thigh meat.Key words: torch ginger flower solution, male local duck, carcass parts

Abstract

Dates press cake is a waste product a date syrup industry which is potensial to be used as animal feed. This research was aimed to study the effects of corn substitution with date press cake in commercial ration on the percentage of giblet and abdominal fat of broiler. The study was conducted at the Trial Farm of the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Djuanda, Bogor from 17 February to 16 March 2014. One hundred and five one of day old Cobb Slouw chicks were used in this research. The chickens were fed commercialRation BR 0, BR 1 and the combination of corn and dates press cake. The design of research was used a completely randomized design with 7 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were: 100% commercial ration (R0, as control), 97.5% commercial ration added 2,5% corn (R1), 97.5% commercial ration added 2,5% dates press cake (R2), 95% commercial ration added 5% corn (R3), 95% commercial ration added 5% dates press cake (R4), 92,5% commercial ration added 7,5% corn (R5) and 92,5% commercial ration added 7,5% dates press cake (R6). The data were analyzed by ANOVA and Duncan test. The results showed that treatments did not give any signicant effect on all of parameters ie: slaughter weight, percentage of giblet and percentage of abdominal fat. It was concluded that dates press cake could be used up to 7.5% in commercial ration of broiler

Abstract

Mojosari x Alabio (MA) ducks have several advantages including higher egg productivity, early age of egg laying, faster growth, better production consistency, compared to its parents. The bay plant is scientifically named Latin Eugenia polyantha Wight. Bay leaves contain phenolic compounds, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids and steroids. This study aims to determine the effect of giving bay leaf extract in drinking water on the percentage of giblet and mojosari alabio duck digestive apparatus.  The research was carried out in the cages of the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Djuanda, Bogor, from March to May 2019. The cattle used in this study were 100 mojosari alabio (MA) ducks aged 1 day which were kept until one week old (adaptation period).  This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 replications and each repetition consists of 5 ducks. The treatments in this study consisted of 4 treatments: R0 = 0% bay leaf extract (control), R1 = 4% bay leaf extract, R2 = 8% bay leaf extract, R3 = 12% bay leaf extract.  The data obtained were analyzed using the Analysis of variance (ANOVA), the results data were significantly different (P <0.05) followed by the Duncan test. The variables observed in this study were: giblet weight and digestive organ weight. The results showed that giving of bay leaf extract had no significant effect (P <0.05) on the observation variables. The conclusion of this study is the provision of bay leaf extract in drinking water up to the level of 12% has an impact on the percentage of gizzard and pancreas at the age of 6 weeks. At the age of 8 weeks no effect on the percentage of giblets and the percentage of digestive organs of mojosari alabio ducks. It is recommended to give bay leaves in the form of flour with a level higher than 12%.Keywords: bay leaf extract, mojosari alabio duck, giblet percentage, digestive organ percentage.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian isi rumen sebagai pakan pengganti hijauan terhadap peningkatan bobot domba. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Oktober sampai bulan Desember 2014 di kandang domba di Desa Tambilung, Kecamatan Rumpin, Kabupaten Bogor. Rancangan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Masing-masing terdiri dari 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Adapun perlakuan yang digunakan yaitu : R0 = pemberian hijauan (rumput lapang) 100 %, R1 = + campuran fermentasi isi rumen 50 % + pemberian hijauan (rumput lapang) 50,  R2 = campuran fermentasi isi rumen 75% + pemberian hijauan (rumput lapang) 25 %, R3 = campuran fermentasi isi rumen 85 % + pemberian hijauan (rumput lapang) 15 %. Data yang diperoleh dianaisa menggunakan Analysis of Variation (ANOVA), bila data menunjukan hasil yang berbeda nyata (P<0.05) dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan. Penggatian Isi rumen sapi fermentasi sebagai hijauan tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap pertambahan bobot badan domba ekor tipis.

Abstract

Kondisi yang ada terkait dengan masalah utama dalam pengembangan ayam kampung adalah biaya ransum yang mahal. Alternatif untuk mengatasi biaya ransum yang mahal adalah dengan cara mengganti sebagian ransum komersial dengan dedak padi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh penggantian sebagian ransum komersial dengan dedak padi terhadap performa ayam kampung.Penelitian ini menggunakan 100 ekor anak ayam kampung umur 1 hari (DOC). Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 4 perlakuan, 5 ulangan dan setiap unit percobaan terdiri atas 5 ekor DOC. Ransum perlakuan terdiri atas perlakuan P0 = 100% Ransum komersial, P1 = 85% Ransum komersial + 15% Dedak padi, P2 = 70% Ransum komersial + 30% Dedak padi dan P3 = 55% Ransum komersial + 45% Dedak padi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggantian sebagian ransum komersial dengan dedak padi sampai 45% tidak memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda nyata terhadap rataan bobot badan, pertambahan bobot badan, konsumsi ransum, konversi ransum dan mortalitas ayam kampung selama penelitian. Oleh karena itu, penggantian sebagian ransum komersial dengan dedak padi sampai 45% dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif mengatasi biaya ransum yang mahal.

Abstract

Community farms mostly only use the main products of the farm alone, did not see many more opportunities of byproducts such as feces and urine of livestock. Byproducts can be used for very useful organic fertilizers from crops especially forage for animal feed such as mini elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum schamach) which is able to grow in various types of soil and is a grass of high nutritional value of fiber favored by livestock. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects from the provision of feces and urine buffalo mud and cutting intervals on the production and nutritional content of Pennisetum purpureum schamach. This research has been conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatra Utara from July to October 2015. This study used Split Plot Design, consisting of cutting interval (4 weeks and 6 weeks) as main plot and type of fertilizer (control / no fertilizer application, mud buffalo feces, buffalo feces + non fermented urine buffalo and feces from buffalo mud + urine fermentation) as subplot. The observed variables were plant height, fresh production, dried production, number of tillers, crude protein and crude fiber from Pennisetum purpureum schamach forage. Cutting intervals have a significant effect on improving nutritional content such as crude protein and crude fiber of mini elephant grass. The interaction of the results showed that the provision of impurities from mud buffalo (feces and urine) gave a real effect to increase fresh production, dry matter production, plant height and number of mini elephant grass.
