Abstract

One of the characteristics of Japanese that is different from other languages is the use of the verbs giving and receiving. The variety of verbs of giving and receiving in Japanese is more numerous and involves factors outside the language. In this paper, we discuss how to use the verbs of giving and receiving in terms of internal factors in the Japanese language and culture. By using a qualitative paradigm, the data were analyzed using the verb give-accept. The theories used include Japanese syntactic and semantic theory, sociolinguistics, and Japanese culture. From the results of the analysis, it was found that in understanding its use, it is necessary not only to understand linguistics but also to understand Japanese socio-culture. An understanding of social concepts is needed, especially the dichotomy of social distance “Uchi-Soto” and social status “jogekankei” to determine the variety and style of verbs used. Cultural factors about empathy are also important to determine the level of empathy that a speaker gives based on his point of view.

Abstract

Dokkai is a Japanese text reading comprehension course. In practice, students learning Japanese have difficulty understanding the contents of the text. This difficulty, in some cases, was caused not only by their weakness in understanding dokkai material, but also because of their lack of knowledge about how to learn dokkai. In order for the purpose of understanding reading to be achieved, learners must be able to optimize their knowledge and skills in reading such as good understanding of Japanese characters, vocabulary, grammatical mastery of Japanese, topics, and knowing dokkai learning methods and strategies. This can be achieved if the learning strategy can cover all the things needed in teaching dokkai. Through literature studies and surveys on the difficulties and desires of learners in teaching dokkai, this paper proposes a learning strategy called an integrated comprehensive learning strategy.

Abstract

Competition in today's advertising world demands creativity from producers and product marketing teams. One form of creativity is sometimes beyond the limits of consumer reasoning to understand. Although communicative, sometimes an advertisement  looks illogical. This excessive element of an advertisement is due to use of signs in hypersemiotics. By using data from Non-no Magazine advertisement published in Japan, the September 2007 edition, the writer looked for the hypersemiotics signs that emerged from each advertisement. Data were analyzed using the referential equivalent method. The sign found are Pseudo Sign, False Sign and Artificial Sign which are used to emphasize the advantage of the product and to attract consumer attention. Keywords: advertisement, sign, hypersemiotics
