Abstract

The strategic development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and government spending are pivotal drivers of local productivity and regional economic growth. However, existing empirical investigations often lack an integrated framework linking these crucial factors. This study addresses that gap by analyzing the influence of MSME growth and government spending on local sector productivity and their subsequent implications for economic growth dynamics in Lampung Province, Indonesia. Adopting a quantitative survey design, this research collected primary data from 190 purposively selected respondents, comprising MSME actors and government officials across key economic sectors. Supporting secondary data was also utilized. The study employed Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to test seven hypotheses. The findings unequivocally demonstrate that MSME growth and government spending significantly influence the dynamic of economic growth and local sector productivity. Moreover, local sector productivity also significantly influences economic growth. Last but not least, both MSME growth and government spending have significant indirect influences on economic growth through local sector productivity. This study advances the understanding of the causal mechanisms linking fiscal policy and MSME dynamics within regional development frameworks. It further emphasizes the critical importance of synergy between local governments and MSME stakeholders to ensure inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Future research is encouraged to explore sector-specific policy impacts through longitudinal and mixed-method approaches for more profound insights.

Abstract

Islamic banks face increasing pressure to strengthen governance and risk oversight, yet the mediating role of risk governance in financial performance remains underexplored, particularly in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the structural relationships among corporate governance, risk management, risk governance, and the financial performance of Indonesia’s Islamic banks. A quantitative research, drawing on secondary data from annual reports of eight Islamic banks between 2016 and 2023 with 64 observations, was employed. Corporate governance was measured using a composite governance index, risk governance through committee structures, risk management via credit, operational, liquidity, and Sharia-compliance controls, while financial performance was proxied by ROA and ROE. Data were analyzed using path analysis with PLS-SEM. The findings reveal that corporate governance significantly strengthens risk governance but does not directly improve financial performance. Conversely, risk management exerts a significant positive influence on financial performance, though it does not shape risk governance. Risk governance itself neither impacts financial performance nor mediates the relationships between governance, risk management, and performance. These results suggest that risk governance in Indonesian Islamic banks remains compliance-oriented rather than performance-enhancing. The study highlights the need for regulatory reforms and strategic integration of risk governance to support sustainable growth.

Abstract

Achieving monetary stability remains a critical challenge for Iraq, primarily due to its heavy reliance on oil revenues and heightened vulnerability to external financial shocks. The volatility of global oil prices and frequent fiscal imbalances have complicated the Central Bank of Iraq’s (CBI) efforts to maintain monetary equilibrium. This study investigates the effectiveness of the monetary sterilization mechanism in stabilizing Iraq’s monetary environment between 2004 and 2023. Using annual data from official sources, primarily the CBI, the research employs an econometric approach, integrating a deductive methodology with descriptive analysis and quantitative modelling. The study estimates the sterilization coefficient and evaluates its impact on key monetary indicators, including inflation and exchange rate stability. The findings reveal that sterilization policies have a statistically significant effect on short-term monetary stability, mitigating immediate price and currency volatility. However, the long-term impact is statistically insignificant, largely due to structural economic limitations, such as the predominance of oil exports, shallow financial markets, and restricted monetary policy tools. The empirical results suggest that Iraq practices partial rather than full sterilization, leading to residual inflationary and deflationary pressures. The study recommends developing more diverse and sustainable monetary policy instruments, strengthening coordination between monetary and fiscal policies, and promoting economic diversification to achieve enduring monetary stability.

Abstract

Organizational transformation in Islamic banking has been widely discussed; however, how internal socio-technical structures and leadership mechanisms jointly influence employee performance transformation still requires more empirical evidence, particularly in regional contexts. Addressing this gap, this study examined the direct and moderating effects of information technology, organizational commitment, organizational culture, reward systems, and leadership on employee performance transformation in Islamic banks in Palu City, Indonesia. A quantitative survey design was employed involving 155 employees from five Islamic bank branches, including one main branch and four sub-branches. Primary data were collected using structured, closed-ended questionnaires administered face-to-face. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS. The findings revealed that information technology, organizational commitment, organizational culture, reward systems, and leadership each had a positive and significant direct effect on employee performance transformation. Leadership demonstrated a selective moderating role by strengthening the relationships between information technology and performance and between reward systems and performance. However, leadership did not significantly moderate relationships involving organizational commitment or organizational culture, indicating the dominance of motivation and embedded Islamic values. The study contributes to socio-technical and leadership literature by showing leadership functions as an enabling factor, with practical implications for ethical digital banking.

Abstract

Amid increasing global interdependence and complex socioeconomic challenges, the need for effective and adaptive economic management has grown more urgent. Although academic interest in globalization and economic governance is rising, a comprehensive synthesis of current research trends remains limited. This study addresses that gap by systematically synthesizing how global developments are reshaping economic management discourse. Employing a bibliometric and conceptual review approach, the study examines 1,698 publications from major academic databases (e.g., Scopus, JSTOR, Google Scholar) between 2020 and 2025. A structured search strategy and rigorous screening criteria were applied to ensure relevance and quality. Thematic and bibliometric analyses were used to identify emerging trends in keyword usage, authorship patterns, international collaboration, and disciplinary focus. Key findings highlight sustainability, renewable energy, and public policy as dominant themes in contemporary economic management research. The study also reveals a growing emphasis on interdisciplinary and cross-border approaches, reflecting the complex realities of globalized economies. Notably, the persistent tension between economic growth and environmental protection indicates the need for adaptive, evidence-based policy frameworks.

Abstract

Fraud remains a persistent challenge in the banking sector, including Islamic financial institutions normatively grounded in Sharia principles. This study examines how fiqh muamalah and religiosity influence fraud intention and fraudulent behavior among internal accountants in Islamic banks, with fraud intention positioned as a mediating mechanism. Using a quantitative explanatory survey design, data were collected from 260 internal accountants employed in Islamic banking institutions in Indonesia and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that fiqh muamalah significantly reduces both fraud intention and fraudulent behavior, indicating its dual role as a jurisprudential and ethical safeguard. Religiosity is found to negatively affect fraud intention but does not directly influence fraudulent behavior, suggesting that its ethical impact operates primarily through cognitive and intentional processes. Furthermore, fraud intention emerges as a strong predictor of fraudulent behavior, confirming its central role in translating ethical vulnerability into misconduct. These results highlight the importance of integrating Sharia-based legal knowledge with moral internalization in fraud prevention strategies. The study contributes to Islamic economics by providing empirical evidence that ethical resilience in Islamic banking depends not only on institutional compliance but also on individual moral intention and jurisprudential understanding.

Abstract

The effective governance of waqf institutions remains a persistent challenge in Indonesia, particularly at the regional level where standardized and context-sensitive performance measurement instruments are limited. This study aims to develop a Regional Waqf Performance Index (WPI) as a governance evaluation tool for waqf institutions in Bengkulu Province, adapted from and extending the National Waqf Index framework. Employing a qualitative research design, the study integrates a literature review with Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving five experts representing regulators, academics, and waqf practitioners. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied to determine the priority weights of governance dimensions and indicators. The findings reveal that result/outcome is the most influential dimension of waqf governance performance, particularly the productive waqf ratio, followed by the impact dimension, which reflects socio-economic benefits such as infrastructure development and community welfare. Institutional capacity, operational processes, governance systems, and regulatory support function as critical enabling factors but are not perceived as ultimate indicators of governance success. Based on these results, the study formulates an integrated WPI Governance Model that illustrates the causal relationship between governance enablers, productive outcomes, and socio-economic impacts. The proposed WPI provides a structured, measurable, and policy-ready framework that supports evidence-based decision-making, enables performance monitoring, and strengthens the accountability and developmental role of waqf institutions at the regional level.

Abstract

Islamic Rural Banks (henceforth BPRS) represent a rapidly expanding segment of the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia, marked by increasing adoption of their financial products. While customer religiosity is often assumed to be a key determinant of Islamic banking adoption, its influence is not always direct and may operate through more complex mechanisms, such as banks’ brand personality. Accordingly, this study examines the mediating role of Islamic banks’ brand personality in the relationship between customer religiosity and the adoption of BPRS products. Using a quantitative approach, survey data were collected from 400 BPRS customers across seven provinces in Indonesia. Respondents were selected using a non-probability sampling technique, with the sample size determined by the Slovin formula to ensure representativeness at a 5% margin of error. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that brand personality has a positive and significant effect on the adoption of BPRS products, whereas religiosity does not exert a significant direct influence. Importantly, brand personality is found to mediate the relationship between religiosity and product adoption. These findings suggest that developing a strong and distinctive brand personality is strategically crucial for Islamic rural banks, enabling them to translate customers’ inherent religiosity into actual service adoption beyond purely ideological appeals.

Abstract

The evolving global business landscape necessitates that corporations move beyond a singular focus on profitability to integrate sustainability performance through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. This study aims to analyze the effect of ESG disclosure on corporate financial performance, measured by Return on Assets (ROA). It further investigates the moderating role of firm size in the relationship between ESG disclosure and ROA. The research sample comprises banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2020-2024 period. Employing a purposive sampling technique, 10 banks were selected as the final sample based on the consistent publication of their annual and sustainability reports. The data were analyzed using panel data regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA), facilitated by Eviews 12 software. The findings indicate that both environmental and social disclosures exert a significant positive influence on ROA. In contrast, governance disclosure and firm size, as standalone variables, do not demonstrate a significant impact on ROA. Crucially, the analysis confirms that firm size positively moderates the relationship between both environmental and social disclosures and ROA. However, it does not moderate the effect of governance disclosure on financial performance. These results offer significant implications for corporate strategy, underscoring the importance of robust ESG management and the strategic leveraging of firm size to enhance financial outcomes.

Abstract

In Iraq's post-conflict, oil-dominated economy, achieving macroeconomic stability is paramount, with the exchange rate acting as a central, yet complex, determinant of growth. This study empirically dissects the long-term relationship between exchange rate stability and economic growth from 2005 to 2024. Analyzing time-series data from the World Bank, IMF, and Central Bank of Iraq, the study applied a multiple linear regression model, robustly supported by unit root (ADF) and Johansen cointegration tests, to assess the impact of currency stability alongside foreign direct investment (FDI), inflation, trade openness, oil revenue, and political stability. The Johansen cointegration test confirms that a stable long-run equilibrium exists among the variables. However, our findings reveal a critical paradox: while the regression model explains a substantial 80% of the variation in GDP growth (R² = 0.80), no individual predictor is statistically significant. This outcome highlights how Iraq’s deep-seated structural challenges, overwhelming oil dependency, political instability, and potential multicollinearity, overshadow and neutralize the independent effects of conventional policy levers. Consequently, while exchange rate stability shows a positive but statistically insignificant effect, it is not a silver bullet for growth. This research concludes that sustainable economic recovery in Iraq is contingent not merely on currency management but on a foundational shift towards comprehensive institutional reforms, aggressive economic diversification, and integrated macroeconomic policies.
