Abstract

Educational transformation in the digital era requires the integration of information and communication technology in the teaching and learning process. This study aims to analyse the management of the Smart Class Program (SCP) at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Surakarta to support digital learning transformation, SCP implementation strategies and teacher adaptation, as well as challenges and solutions. The method employed qualitative research with a case study approach, located at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Surakarta, and informants consisted of the Principal, SCP teachers, and students in grades 7, 8, and 9. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that SCP plays an important role in encouraging digital learning transformation through systematic management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation. The strategies in SCP implementation include the provision of technological facilities, strengthening teacher capacity through training, and fostering a collaborative culture among educators. However, challenges related to human resource readiness and variations in teachers' digital competencies still exist. Special mentoring for teachers with low digital competencies is a solution implemented by the school.

Abstract

In Indonesia’s multilingual education landscape, Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) play a pivotal role in shaping students’ religious and linguistic identities through bilingual language policies. While pesantren have historically emphasized Arabic for religious instruction, the inclusion of English reflects a growing need for global engagement. This study investigates the implementation, challenges, and impacts of language policies in three pesantren in Central Java. Adopting a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and document analysis with coordinators (pak kyai/bu nyai), instructors (ustadz/ustadzah), and students (santri). This research integrates ethnographic tools particularly those oriented towards branding local wisdom activities to deepen the understanding of how pesantren construct and communicate their institutional identity through language practices. Findings revealed three distinct policy models: kitab-based instruction (pesantren 1), structured immersion (pesantren 2), and bilingual programs (pesantren 3). Challenges included limited vocabulary, low student confidence, policy-practice gaps, and insufficient interaction with native speakers. Nevertheless, bilingual policies fostered increased student confidence, enhanced public speaking skills, and multilayered linguistic identities grounded in both Islamic and global contexts. These findings highlight that effective language policy must align with institutional ideology, ensure consistent implementation, and provide authentic language exposure. It is recommended that pesantren leaders strengthen peer-based language zones, enhance teacher training in bilingual pedagogy, and explore digital platforms to connect students with native speakers. Future research should examine pesantren across other regions and investigate the long-term effects of bilingualism on students' academic and spiritual development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of school principal leadership on teacher performance in the perspective of Islamic education management. The study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design conducted in Islamic-based educational institutions, with teachers as the main respondents. The sampling technique uses proportional random sampling, while data collection is carried out through questionnaires, observations, and documentation. Data analysis uses simple linear regression to test the relationships and influences between variables. The results showed that the leadership of the principal had a significant and positive influence on teacher performance, with the correlation level being in the strong category. Effective leadership, especially one that integrates transformational, participatory, and Islamic spiritual values such as trust, justice, and deliberation, has been proven to increase teacher motivation, professionalism, and responsibility. These findings confirm that the leadership of school principals is a strategic factor in improving the quality of education, although it is still influenced by other factors such as teacher competence, intrinsic motivation, and support for facilities and infrastructure. Therefore, a holistic leadership model based on Islamic values is needed to support the continuous improvement of teacher performance.

Abstract

Multicultural Islamic education is widely promoted as a framework for fostering tolerance, moral integrity, and social harmony in Islamic schools. However, the increasing occurrence of bullying, school violence, and ethical misconduct within Islamic educational institutions raises critical questions about its practical effectiveness. This study aims to critically examine the crisis of multicultural Islamic education by analyzing its formalistic implementation, leadership failure, and weak policy commitment. Employing a qualitative approach with a library research design, this study analyzes scholarly literature on multicultural Islamic education, educational leadership, school management, and social dynamics in Islamic schools. The findings indicate that multicultural Islamic education is often implemented symbolically through curriculum and institutional rhetoric without being internalized as an ethical governance system. Leadership failure and the absence of enforceable value-based policies contribute to the normalization of violence and unequal power relations within schools. The study concludes that multicultural Islamic education remains relevant only when reconstructed as ethical governance that integrates value-based leadership, policy operationalization, professional ethical development, and inclusive school culture. Such reconstruction enables Islamic schools to move beyond formalism and restore their moral and educational authority.

Abstract

The Islamic Boarding School Cooperative (Kopontren) is an economic instrument that plays a role in supporting the financial independence of Islamic boarding schools through the development of various productive business units. The Al-Iman Islamic Boarding School in Malang Regency has developed several cooperative business units, namely a cooperative shop, a fruit juice business, and an ice cream business, which are utilized to meet the needs of students while supporting the operational financing of education and infrastructure. This study aims to describe the management of the Kopontren business unit in supporting the operational financing of education and infrastructure for students and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in its management. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study approach. The results of the study indicate that the management of the Kopontren business unit has implemented management functions including planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring. The cooperative shop, fruit juice, and ice business units contribute to the operational costs of education and the maintenance of student facilities and infrastructure. Supporting factors include support from the Islamic boarding school leadership, the high demand for students, student involvement in business management, and a strategic business location. Inhibiting factors include limited capital, limited human resources, business competition, and fluctuations in raw material prices. Therefore, Kopontren plays a crucial role in supporting economic independence and the sustainability of education at the Al-Iman Islamic Boarding School in Malang Regency.

Abstract

A culture of critical thinking is an important competency for Islamic Education Management students, but its development through student organizations is still not sufficiently documented. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Dialectical Assembly program, analyze its impact on students' critical thinking culture, and identify supporting and inhibiting factors. A qualitative approach with case study design is used. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, & Saldana model. Findings: (1) The Dialectical Assembly was held as a regular discussion forum on Tuesdays with topics relevant to Islamic Education Management; (2) improvements were observed in confidence to express opinions, argumentation quality, and participation among introverted students; (3) The main supporting factor is leadership regeneration, while the inhibiting factors include suboptimal documentation and limited access to literature. The practical implication is that structured discussion forums need to be institutionalized in the student's academic calendar.
