Abstract

This article discusses a review book of al-Muwattâ’ titled Tafsîr Gharîb al-Muwattâ’ by Abû Marwân ‘Abd al-Mâlik bin Habîb, an Andalusian Mâliki scholar who lived in the range 174-238 H. The discussion includes the author figure, the status of the book and the contents, systematics as well as the method. The reception of this book will also be discussed at the end of the writing. This book explains gharîb or abstruse words in al-Muwattâ’ both in a language and a fiqh explanation. Abû Marwân,  has placed the scope of gharîb al-hadîth broader than usual. Unlike the other essay of Abû Marwân, al-Wadihah, Tafsîr Gharîb al-Muwattâ’ did not receive a positive response, because the contribution of this book is not too significant, other than because of carelessness in narration. Abû Marwân not only saw this gharîb from the linguistic aspect, but also from the fiqh aspect, so that it was not always the words described in gharîb language, but words or sentences that did need further explanation fiqh, even though the word is actually not gharîb linguistically. The advantage of this book lies in its method of being able to present a book that is practical, easy to understand and applicable, not long-winded.Keyword: Tafsîr, Gharîb, al-Muwattâ’, ‘Abd al-Mâlik bin Habîb

Abstract

This is a philological study of the manuscript tafsîr bi al-Imlâ’ surat al-Baqarah Kyai Zaini Mun’im, the first founder of Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School Paiton, Probolinggo. This study deals to discuss systematic, forms, methods, style and ideology that contained in the script of tafsîr bi al-imlâ’ surat al-Baqarah. Having studied manuscript of tafsîr bi al-Imlâ’, it can be identified that: commentaries (tafsîr) of Kyai Zaini used tartib muṣḥafî’s systematic presentation, ra'yî’s form, taḥlîlî’s method, adabî ijtima'î’s style and Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah’s ideology. In addition, this study also found that the interpretation bi al-imlâ’ many affected by tafsîr al-Marâghî of Shaikh al-Marâghî and al-Manâr by Shaikh Muhammad Abduh and Rasyid Rida, in the form of ideas and writing formats. Nevertheless, in some interpretation on certain verses, Kyai Zaini’s interpretation is partly different from the two interpretation above, and it becomes its own peculiarities of the intellectual work of islamic boarding school.

Abstract

Quran idealizes Muslims as ummatan wasaṭan, but in reality Muslims are still far from the idealism of the Quran. This article discusses the ummatan wasaṭan according to Quraish Shihab in Tafsir al-Misbah. The aim is to find out the interpretations and concepts of ummatan wasaṭan according to Quraish Shihab, as well as the relevance of their interpretation to the values of Pancasila. This research is a library research. This research uses documentation techniques and descriptive-analytical methods. This research also uses the comparison method. The results of this study found that: according to Quraish Shihab, ummatan wasaṭan were moderate people, who were not inclined to the left and right so that led to a fair attitude, and the people who became witnesses and were witnessed by all parties so that he was made an example. The characteristics of ummatan wasaṭan according to Quraish Shihab are eight. (a) Faith in Allah and His Messenger; (b) Firmness; (c) Wisdom; (d) Unity and cohesion and brotherhood; (e) Justice; (f) Modeling; (g) Balance; and (h) Inclusive. M. Abstract

Muslim society perception of gender issues are influenced and constructed based on their religious understanding. Oftentimes, controversy arises because of difference in perspective regarding the discussion. One of factual problem that is often questioned is the discourse about women's participation in the sport. Therefore this paper was made by making the above polemic as an academic problem that was answered based on the epistemological fundamental of the hadith, specifically using the Fazlur Rahman’s hermeneutic method of Hadith. From the research that has been done it was found that Islam affirms sporting activity for women both the activity is carried out as an ordinary physical routine, and it is occupied as a field of work as a female athlete whose pioneering sport activity for self-career development. This validity is obtained by women with several prerequisites : 1). Comply with religious norms, decency, and other consideration such as medical procedure in their activity so as to avoid the emergence of adverse effect or loss-material and immaterial-to personal and other people. 2). Abstract

Qur’an as self-referential text within the word Quran and Qul represents the moral dimension involved. It is a dimension when the Quran frequently is applied as a narrative object in daily life by which, according to Frédéric Deny, it is called Performative. In aesthetic reception discourse, Qur’an as a text is placed as an object approached beautifully. For instance, it’s voiced by sound and rhythm called murattal or Mujawwad. The oldest quranic recording is found in 1855 by S Hurgronje in which it was a starting point for the Quran to recept digitally in media matters. Around 2000, Quranic Aesthetic reception in media tools Was widespread massively, then reading Qur’an in this time using Rythm isn't a matter to be coached directly. By phenomenological approach, this research tries to mapping the typology as well as the history of the reader (Qori) who changes to use social media as a listener and appreciator by uploading his/her reading. The result shows that three aspects are influencing the reader's acts in social media, 1) to show the existence of the Quran 2) religious narcism, 3) authoritative freedom. Keyword: Performative, Aesthetic Reception, Qari’, Social Media

Abstract

Kitab Pembebasan is Eko Prasetyo’s first work in the field of interpretation contains the stories of prophets and friends in the Qur'an. For him, the stories of the prophets no longer have the power to change circumstances, then progressive logic brings Eko to an interpretation of the stories of the prophet to the surrounding social problems. When many commentators who interpret the Quran relate to the social community, then interpreting the Quran leads to social criticism being unique to discuss. So this paper is focused on discussing social criticism in the Book of Liberation. In this paper, there are indications of the content of social criticism Eko Prasetyo then grouped them into five fields, namely economics, religion, education, politics and society. Then explained based on the theme specifically. Then develop social criticism based on each theme. Among them is a criticism of the economic system of capitalism, interpretation of the meaning of Satan, tyranny, seditious and idolatrous, religious and financiers, criticism of Suharto and the New Order, the case of the murderous activist Salim deer. Also, Eko's other works were reviewed to develop his criticisms. The interpretation for Eko through the Book of Liberation is the contextualization of the problems that occur around him, Eko does not care about the interpretation of the interpretation, because for Eko, the Qur'an is a book of movements that must be practiced.Keyword: Eko Prasetyo, Progressive Interpretations, Qissah, al-Qur’an

Abstract

The problem of understanding the hadith of the Prophet is an urgent question to discuss. This stems from the reality of the hadith as the second source of Islamic teaching after the Quran which in some respects is different from the Quran. One possible way is to conduct a study on the method of understanding the hadith of Shah Walî Allah al-Dahlawî. In this study, it will be elaborated on the method of understanding the hadith based on their forgetting. The results of this study show that epistemologically, the method of understanding hadith according to al-Dahlawî is, among others; the understanding of the hadith based on its validity (knowing its meaning, thus its legal content, ‘illat, harmony, and conditions), the solution of the opposite hadith, and the understanding of the hadith based on historical facts. Ontologically, the method of understanding al-Dahlawî’s hadith is: the hadith is understood based on the position of the Prophet divided into two parts (tablîgh and ghayr al-tablîgh), and the hadith is also understood based on the secrets contained in the text of the hadith. Such al-Dahlawî’s thinking on the method of understanding the hadith has several implications; First, the understanding of the hadith offered opens up the possibility of developing scholars insights later, in which they adopt the same approach as al-Dahlawî. Second, the applications and examples presented by al-Dahlawî have much to do with fiqh. He was a scholar who was able to reconcile the hadith and fiqh, whose thoughts from his works are the answer to the turmoil of thought and the sect that occurred in his time in India. Kata Kunci: Hadis, Hadith Thought, Shâh Walî Allah al-Dahlawî, the method of understanding the hadith

Abstract

This article is talking about the contextual understanding of Hadith about women proposing toward men and how this phenomenon develops in the contemporary era. Islam requires that a proposing is done before marriage. The practice of proposing generally is held by men. However, in several locations, it is found that a proposing is committed by women. They are doing it because of their understanding of a hadith which explains that in Islam, a woman has the right to propose a man. On the other side, Islam does not regulate who must propose whether men or women. Even though, there is a hadith which tells that a woman offered her self to be married by a pious man. As an open and changed text, a hadith can be explained by many ways of interpretation. One of them is contextual understanding. Therefore, contextual understanding of woman proposing toward a man which is based on the hadith is allowed because the prophet did not give a legal decision and forbid it. Keywords: Hadith, Women Proposing, Contextual Understanding

Abstract

Sufi interpretation is an important part in expressing the meaning contained in the Qur’an, there is the meaning of outer and inner meaning. The meaning of outer is the outside of textual meaning that is the spiritual area. Sufi interpretation does not mean leaving the aspect of outer or aspects of language, but at the same time combing the inner aspect, this also happens in the book of Tafsir Fayd al-Rahman by KH. Shalih Darat. The intended orientation in Sufiinterpretation is more about overcoming mental problems that often forget the essence of essential life. The inner meaning will provide added value in matters of worship, especially in the interpretation of the letter (Q.S. al-Baqarah: 183). In interpreting the verse KH. Shalih Darat interprets the Isyari, so that the essential inner meaning is obtained to express the social dimensions that encourage the birth of empathy in the family, social, and among humans. So that the container in realizing superior social dimensions in the community needs to increase fasting both in terms of dhohir and in terms of the heart. The approach taken in this study uses a sufistic approach to the theory of Sufi Ishari and Isharah method (Devine Method). The results obtained from the interpretation of the verse parse about fasting there are four things, taqwa which manifests on the dimension of divinity and the human dimension of basyariah, manifests itself in the form of love between humans, disciplined life and tazqiyah al-Nafs.Keywords: Fasting, Tafsir Faidh al-Rahman, Sufistik Logic

Abstract

A Muslim’s interaction with the Quran directly both verbally, in writing, and with the form of practice results in different experiences arising in each individual. The process which then gave birth to traditions and various kinds of receptions on understanding the meaning of the verses of the Quran. From this phenomenon the author tries to examine the aesthetic reception of a Kyai in Islamic boarding school Rouḍotul Fatiḥâh on the art of music in a music community called the Rofa Band. To find out the background of the creation of the Rofa Band and the meaning of the songs delivered. Also tried to reveal from the aspect of how scientific transmission and transformation carried out by KH. Fuad Riyadi related it to the reception of the Quran verses in the practice of Rofa Band. As a theoretical basis, researchers use a theory conceived by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann which states that social construction is inseparable from the historical process that connects traditional spaces. The results of the research by the author show that the reason for the formation of Rofa Band by Gus Fuad was motivated by Gus Fuad’s anxiety about the rise of the influence of Western music for the community, secondly, encouragement from one of his teachers, and third, Gus Fuad’s desire to convey the message of the Prophet’s love through the art of music. The meaning of the Rofa Band songs that Gus Fuad wants to convey the magnitude of the love and love of the Apostle to his people. Keyword: Reception, Tradition, Living Quran, Transmission, Transformation
