Abstract

Traditional market activities often cause an increase in vehicle traffic, which impacts the performance of surrounding roads. The Oro-Oro Dowo People's Market in Malang City is one such economic hub with high activity intensity, potentially causing side effects and congestion on Jalan Guntur, the main access road to the market. This study aims to analyze the performance of Jalan Guntur and examine the impact of Oro-Oro Dowo Market activities on traffic conditions on this road. This study uses a quantitative approach through field surveys to obtain primary data in the form of traffic volume, side obstacles, and road geometric characteristics. Observations were conducted for seven days during the market's operating hours. Road performance analysis was conducted using the 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) method, including road capacity calculations, saturation levels, and road service levels. The results of the study show that market activities have a significant impact on the performance of the Guntur Road section. Traffic volume increases during rush hour, especially on weekends. The highest saturation degree value recorded was 0.86 on Sunday, indicating that the road service level was in category E, meaning that traffic conditions were approaching maximum capacity and had the potential for congestion. The dominant side obstacles were caused by parking on the road, pedestrian activity, and loading and unloading activities by traders. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the activities of the Oro-Oro Dowo Market significantly reduce the performance of the Guntur Road section. Therefore, efforts are needed in the form of parking arrangements, control of side obstacles, and the application of traffic engineering to improve the smoothness and performance of roads in the market area.

Abstract

This study focuses on evaluating fire protection systems at gas stations, which are vital infrastructure for fuel supply. The main objective of this study is to assess the availability of fire protection systems and the need for fire extinguishers to minimize the risk of fire. The methods applied include a quantitative descriptive approach through field observations, interviews, and documentation studies. The results show that gas stations have adequate supplies of water and light fire extinguishers. However, active protection systems, including fire detectors, sprinklers, and hydrants, are still inadequate, with a recorded reliability rate of only 24% and field facility completeness reaching 11.7%. For passive protection and evacuation facilities, the scores were 18.79% and 22.45%, respectively, which were considered quite good. These findings recommend the installation of at least three 9 kg fire extinguishers, four pillar hydrants, and thirty sprinkler points. By implementing these recommendations, it is hoped that gas stations can improve the safety of service users and reduce the risk of fire, as well as comply with existing safety regulations. This study is expected to serve as a reference for gas station managers and related parties in their efforts to improve fire protection and safety systems at public fuel supply facilities.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the physical characteristics of the pedestrian overpass on Basuki Rachmat Street in Surabaya, as well as to assess its compliance with applicable national technical standards for pedestrian facilities. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach through direct field observations of various physical elements of the pedestrian overpass on Basuki Rachmat Street in Surabaya. The aspects observed include stairs, walkways, safety railings, roofs, lighting systems, and accessibility. The results of the study indicate that most of the physical components of the pedestrian overpass on Basuki Rachmat Street in Surabaya meet technical requirements, particularly regarding the width of the stairs, walkways, and strong, stable safety railings. The roof structure is also in good condition as it effectively protects users from rain and heat. However, several discrepancies were identified, such as stair inclines exceeding comfort limits, uneven lighting across the entire bridge area, and limited accessibility for people with disabilities. These conditions have the potential to reduce user comfort and safety. Overall, the physical characteristics of the pedestrian overpass on Basuki Rachmat Street in Surabaya can be categorized as being in good condition and suitable for use; however, improvements are needed regarding stair slope, lighting, and accessibility to better meet the design principles for safe, comfortable, and inclusive pedestrian facilities.

Abstract

The problem of traffic congestion has not yet been fully resolved in Indonesian cities such as Malang. One of the areas most prone to traffic jams is the intersection of Sudimoro Street and Lowokwaru District. Due to the lack of traffic signs at that location, vehicles drive erratically, disrupting traffic flow. Because it is located in an area frequented by young people—such as cafes and trendy hangout spots—the intersection of Sudimoro Street and Ikan Tombro Street, particularly north of the airplane roundabout, experiences fairly heavy traffic. This research approach, which examines the current performance of the interchange and its projected performance in 2030, is based on the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI 2023). The interchange currently has a capacity of 2,664.56 vehicles per hour, a saturation level of 0.70, an average delay of 11.89 seconds per vehicle, and a queueing probability ranging from -0.21% to 40.67%, according to the study’s findings. The interchange’s service level is classified as Class F. According to projections, traffic volume will reach 3,550.24 vehicles per hour by 2030, the saturation level will rise to 1.33, and the service quality will remain in Class F.

Abstract

Construction is a high-risk sector that demands serious attention to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), given its significant contribution to workplace accident statistics. This study aims to analyze OSH implementation at the new RSU Lawang Medika hospital construction project in Malang. Using a quantitative method involving observation, documentation, and interviews, the results show varying levels of PPE compliance. The highest compliance was observed for safety shoes and vests, followed by adequate use of gloves, while the use of helmets and masks remained very low. Overall, the level of PPE implementation falls into the moderate category and shows an increase on higher floors. This study concludes that strict supervision, structured OSH programs, and high-quality PPE play a vital role in creating a safe work environment on construction projects.

Abstract

Transportation services connecting major cities play a vital role in facilitating public mobility, particularly along the Malang–Jakarta route, which has a high passenger volume. The two main options available are bus services and executive trains, both of which offer comparative advantages in terms of travel time, fares, and accessibility. This study is designed to explore the user profiles of these two modes, identify the determinants shaping mode choice preferences, and develop a mathematical model for predicting mode choice along the Malang–Jakarta corridor. The research approach adopts the stated preference technique, with data collected directly through a survey distributed to 100 bus users and 100 train users. The evaluated parameters include fare variations, differences in travel time, time differences to reach the terminal or station, and variations in departure schedules. The applied analytical techniques are multiple regression and the binomial logit model. The findings indicate that fare and accessibility factors have a dominant impact compared to other variables in determining mode choice. The resulting prediction model is capable of describing fluctuations in the probability of use between buses and trains in response to changes in service attributes. This research is expected to provide practical insights for transportation operators and policymakers in optimizing service standards and designing more efficient intercity transportation systems.

Abstract

Pedestrian overpasses (JPO) are facilities provided for pedestrians to minimize the risk of accidents when crossing the street, especially in areas with high traffic volumes. In the Singosari Market area, Malang Regency, there is fairly heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, but the usage of existing pedestrian overpasses (JPO) remains relatively low. This study aims to identify the physical condition of the JPO, evaluate the level of effectiveness of JPO users, and undertake efforts to improve the effectiveness of JPO usage in Singosari Market. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, with primary data collection through field observations, measurements of the JPO’s geometric dimensions, a pedestrian volume survey, and the distribution of questionnaires to JPO users. Additionally, secondary data was obtained from relevant agencies. The effectiveness of the JPO was measured by comparing the number of pedestrians using the JPO to the total number of pedestrians crossing the road. The results of the study indicate that the physical condition of the JPO at Singosari Market does not yet fully meet the standards set by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing in 2018. Furthermore, the level of effectiveness in JPO usage falls into the “moderately effective” category. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of facilities, add supporting infrastructure, and conduct public awareness campaigns to ensure the optimal safety and effectiveness of pedestrian overpasses.

Abstract

The construction of drinking water pipeline networks is a critical component of a sustainable Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM). The success of pipeline construction is heavily influenced by the appropriate selection of construction methods tailored to on-site conditions. The Umbulan Sub-Distribution Center (Sub DC) Bunder–Manyar SPAM project in Gresik Regency is a strategic project utilizing High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes with large nominal diameters and a significant route length. Diverse on-site conditions, such as open areas, road crossings, and river crossings, require the application of appropriate construction methods to ensure the work proceeds effectively and efficiently. This study aims to analyze the construction methods for HDPE DN pipelines applied in this project, analyze the costs and duration of the work, and evaluate project progress based on actual on-site conditions. The research method used is a descriptive approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Data was obtained through direct field observations as well as a review of the Cost Estimate (RAB), work schedule, and project progress reports. The research results show that the open-cut method is predominantly used in areas with open terrain and easy access, while the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) method is applied in areas crossing roads and rivers. Based on the analysis of costs and implementation time, the application of methods appropriate to site conditions can improve work efficiency and support the achievement of project progress in accordance with the plan. Thus, the selection of the appropriate implementation method plays a crucial role in the success of drinking water pipeline network projects.
