Abstract

Sex (intercourse) represents  a relation of two personalities that is between a husband and a wife involving  physic, feeling, emotion, and the soul based on love and mutual respect.  Sex that is executed by unmarried couple is supposed to be  adultery sin and immoral in some  religions as well as cultures. Each culture against the adultery so that people who does the adultery will  get a heavy moral sanction. The moral sanction means the fall of  the man’s dignity as a cultured human being. Key words:  sex (intercourse), moral, dignity

Abstract

The title of this paper is “Elements of Puppet Show (Pakeliran) Yogyakarta Style in Nartosabdo’s Puppet Show”. Election of Nartosabdo’s pakeliran as an object of this paper is based on his popularity in the puppetry world that can affect later followed by young puppeteers. The issues discussed are: (1) Effect of pakeliran Yogyakarta style elements to the Nartosabdo’s pakeliran. (2) The causes Nartosabdo’s pakeliran influenced by the pakeliran Yogyakarta style. The rationale used was that the puppetry art is one of tradition art that is always changing all the time. The change is dependent on human beings. Nartosabdo is a creative puppeteer artist who also makes changes in his pakeliran, among which he included elements of pakeliran Yogyakarta style in his pakeliran. The method used is descriptive interpretative, while data collection techniques by literature study and listening to sound recordings.Key words: Pakeliran (puppet show), Nartosabdo, Yogyakarta

Abstract

This article aims to give a short explanation about the theory of symbol in epistemology perspective especially related to the assumption, model, concept and method developed in anthropology. From the assumption point of view, the theory of symbol assume  human as being animal symbolicum who always use their own symbols in interaction so that there is any relationship between text and context. Text is a model of symbol while context is situation which gives meaning to the text (symbol). Positioning symbol in social context means enlarging the meaning of symbol. Meaning is not only what is inherited as we can found in Pakeliran but it is something negotiated because of social interaction process in space and time in society. for the reason, this article offers generic meaning concept and differencial meaning concept in order to avoid the establishing meaning. This implies methodologically especially in data collection, what is data and the interpretation method. In pakeliran, theory of symbol becomes the most important thing because pakeliran is a  symbolic world with various meanings.       Key words: Theory of symbol, Pakeliran, Epistemology of Symbol

Abstract

In puppet show, there is a war of life and death between Pandawa and Kurawa called Baratayuda Jayabinangun. Object of this research is focussed on the characters Pandawa and Kurawa. They represent evil and virtue, protagonist and antagonist, truth versus evil. This reseacrh aims to describe  the aspects of  Marx theory of conflict in relation to Baratayuda as the conflict solution of Kurawa and Pandawa. The researcher uses sociological perspective by positioning the Marx theory of conflict as the analysis  tools. The result shows that: (1) the conflict of Kurawa-Pandawa is based on the material as well as psichological factors, namely kamukten of the state Ngamarta and Ngastina and Duryudana’s characteristic, ambeg angkara murka; (2) the conflict of Kurawa-Pandawa can be categorized as social conflict; (3) Pandawa’s struggle cannot be categorized as the struggle between  the poor and the rich to avoid Kurawa’s pressure. It is not proporsional to be placed in Baratayuda context for the conflict of Kurawa-Pandawa is not formed of economic factor.Key words: Bharatayuda, conflict, Pandawa-Kurawa, Marx
