Abstract

Stroke is a non-traumatic circulatory disorder that results in insufficient blood and oxygen supply to the brain. Stroke patients often experience long-term basic functional impairments. Families can play a direct caregiving role for post-stroke patients, including range of motion (ROM) exercises. The purpose of this study was to identify the determinants of family behavior in training ROM for post-stroke patients. This research was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 76 family members who cared for stroke patients in the last 3 months at Lily Room of Dr. R. Goeteng Taroenadibrata Regional General Hospital, Purbalingga. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The study results indicated a strong correlation between knowledge (p-value 0.007, OR 6.9), attitude (p-value 0.000, OR 11.1), self-efficacy (p-value 0.001, OR 0.16) and social support (p-value 0.000, OR 0.02) with behavior in training ROM for post-stroke patients. Healthcare professionals should educate family members about factors influencing behavior in training ROM for post-stroke patients at home to ensure optimal recovery for the patients.

Abstract

Surgery can be generally defined as a medical action that causes a stressor on a person's integrity, resulting in a stress response, both psychological and physiological. It is totally normal to feel anxious before surgery. This study aimed to identify the management strategies for blood pressure control in elective pre-surgery patients, focusing on family support improvement, anxiety control, and caring behavior. It was an analytical-correlational study which the total samples were 130 respondents at the receiving room of Malang Lavalette Hospital. The data analysis confirmed significant relationships in elective pre-surgery patient care. Family support and nurses' caring behavior had notable impacts on patient anxiety with p values of 0.000 and 0.034 respectively. Moreover, family support and anxiety, as well as anxiety and blood pressure, demonstrated significant associations with p values of 0.000. Notably, family support exhibited a direct effect on blood pressure (0.568) greater than its indirect effect through anxiety (0.453), summing to a total effect of 1.021. Similarly, nurses' caring behavior had a direct effect on blood pressure (0.1225) exceeding its indirect effect through anxiety (0.1099), resulting in a total effect of 0.2324. The researchers found that there was an effect of elective pre-surgery patients management strategies on blood pressure control in terms of increasing family support, anxiety control and caring behavior in receiving room.

Abstract

End of Life (EoL) communication is carried out when the patient's condition is palliative and documented in an advance Directives (ADs) document which contains of patient's preferences of treatment options. ADs are highly important documents for patients, families and health worker, but have not been applied in Indonesia. This study aimed to identify the stages of preparing ADs with qualitative evidence synthesis research design. The Data sources used several data bases, namely Sage Journals, ProQuest, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, ScienceDirect, and ClinicalKey Nursing from 2003 to 2023. The article selection was based on the category of qualitative research on EoL communication and ADs drafting. The results of the study obtained 6 out of 38,185 articles. The articles contained of the stages of preparing ADs starting with the initiation of patients or health workers, providing an explanation of ADs and the course of patient's disease, discussion or EoL communication between families and health workers, reviewing the decisions in ADs according to patient's condition, and making ADs according to local regulations. The researchers concluded that ADs document as the result of EoL communication should be made by health workers and patients. ADs document is important for patients, families and health workers and can help patients become calmer to face a follow-up care and end-of-life care.

Abstract

Measuring foot sensitivity with the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) can be used to identify peripheral sensitivity disorders in patients with diabetes mellitus. Poorly managed peripheral sensitivity disorders can lead to various complications, including foot amputation. Buerger Allen Exercise (BAE) and diabetic foot exercises were proved to give good effects on ABI. However, there were no studies which combine both exercises yet. This study aimed to determine the impacts of the combination of BAE therapy and diabetic foot exercises on the increase of ABI value of diabetic patients. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with pre-test and post-test. The sampling technique was purposive with the total size of 57 respondents, including 19 individuals in the BAE and foot exercise intervention group, 19 individuals in BAE group (control 1), and 19 individuals in foot exercises group (control 2). The analysis results indicated a significant difference between the intervention group’s ABI value and both control gorups (p-value 0.001). This study noted that diabetic patients at Sawah Lebar Public Health Center in Bengkulu City had a higher ABI value when BAE therapy and diabetic foot exercises were combined.

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition when the pressure in the blood vessels increases beyond normal limits. High triglyceride levels can be associated with increased blood pressure which can cause heart problems. This study aimed to determine the relationship between triglycerides and systolic and diastolic pressure. This was analytical correlative research with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 38 respondents who were adult individuals aged 30-50 years were involved in the study using an accidental sampling technique. The correlation between variables was tested using Spearman’s rank. The results showed that the mean of triglyceride level was 203.79 (SD=40.036), systolic pressure 149.05 (SD-24.052), and diastolic pressure 89.00 (SD=11.128). The results of the Spearman correlation test showed there was no significant correlation between triglyceride levels, systolic pressure (p value=0.472) and diastolic pressure (p value=0.710). The triglyceride levels of hypertensive patients with increased systolic and diastolic pressures above normal pressure were often found high. However, high triglyceride conditions were not necessarily accompanied by an increase in systolic and diastolic pressure.
