Abstract

The application of technology in the agricultural sector is a strategic step in addressing the challenges of production efficiency and adaptation to climate change. This study presents a community empowerment initiative through the implementation of an AI-based control system in a smart greenhouse to improve melon productivity in Magelang. The community service program was conducted by Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) in collaboration with the Rukuntani Farmers Group in Salam Village, Magelang, through the introduction and implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Farming Control System (AFAS) in a smart greenhouse. The system integrates environmental sensors and leaf image cameras with Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and the Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor plant conditions and automatically detect diseases. The activities were carried out in stages, including needs assessment, training, system installation, and weekly mentoring. The results showed a 25% increase in melon productivity and more consistent fruit quality. In addition, farmers’ independence in operating the technology improved, and their work patterns shifted toward data-driven precision agriculture. This program demonstrates that a participatory approach supported by appropriate technology can have a significant impact on empowering farming communities and transforming local agriculture, as well as showing the potential of participatory smart farming programs in supporting sustainable agriculture in developing regions

Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to strengthen the economic independence of environmentally conscious women through ecological crafts, eco-enzyme products, digital gardens, and sustainable product management based on local wisdom. The program was carried out with the Environmental Care Women’s Groups in Patalan and Srihardono Hamlets, Bantul, whose members mostly housewives initially had limited skills in ecoprinting, digital gardening, and online marketing. Activities included training and mentoring on ecoprint production using local natural materials, household-scale digital garden development, eco-enzyme liquid soap processing, and digital marketing strategies. A participatory approach ensured active involvement in planning, practice, and evaluation. The results showed significant skill improvement: 80% of participants produced marketable ecoprint products, and 75% successfully promoted their products through social media and simple online stores. Participants also created various ecological products and began managing organic digital gardens. The program increased women’s technical capacities and strengthened their awareness of sustainability and local wisdom. Overall, it effectively supported women’s economic independence while fostering environmental conservation

Abstract

Stunting in Indonesia is closely linked to inadequate sanitation and maternal health literacy. This community service program aimed to improve mothers’ knowledge and sanitation practices for stunting prevention through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach in Palembang. The program involved 39 mothers of stunted children across four public health centers. Evaluation was conducted using pre–post KAP questionnaires, household observations, and environmental measurements. The results showed that 82% of participants improved their knowledge scores compared to baseline, with average scores increasing from low to good levels. Observable behavioral changes included proper handwashing, improved waste management, safer water storage, and better home ventilation. Coliform contamination in drinking water decreased from 58.2 to 5.13 CFU/100 mL, indicating a positive improvement trend, although not yet meeting WHO standards. The formation of the “Ibu Peduli Sanitasi” group strengthened sustainability through peer education and community monitoring. This program demonstrates that participatory community empowerment effectively enhances maternal capacity and promotes sustainable sanitation behavior in stunting prevention
