Introduction: Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) is a common illness in children under five years old. The incidence of ARI in developing countries is ten times more than in developed countries. There are many risk factors for ARI, such as breastfeeding. Aim: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding with the occurrence of recurrent ARI in children under five. Method: This research uses an analytic research design with an observational study type and a cross-sectional study method. The numbers of samples in this study were 203 samples and tested using the chi-square test. The data of 203 samples in this study were obtained from primary data with structured interviews regarding exclusive breastfeeding and secondary data by looking at the patient's medical records regarding the occurrence of recurrent ARI. From 203 selected samples, 47.3% are exclusively breastfed, and 52.7% are not exclusive breastfeeding. Recurrent ARI events were calculated over the past year with the criteria for ARI greater than or equal to six times. Result: The results of this study are that 53.7% of samples do not have recurrent ARI, and 46.3% of samples have recurrent ARI. The results of this study show a p-value of 0.00, which means there is a significant relationship of exclusive breastfeeding with the occurrence of recurrent ARI in children under five years old. Conclusion: The incidence of Recurrent ARI in children under five years old with exclusive breastfeeding history is lower than children under five years old without exclusive breastfeeding history.

Background: Aging is a natural process that cannot be avoided and this process will cause body changes in the elderly which leads to degenerative problems, one of them is sleep disorder. Increasing sleep hygiene is one of many ways to reduce sleep disorder. Sleep hygiene is the life style of the elderly that cause better sleep quality. Gymnastic in the elderly is a mild aerobic excercise that increases parasimpatic activity that leads to adrenalin, norepinephrine, catecolamin level decreasing and vasodilatation of blood vessels, these will cause oxygen transport throughout body, especially brain to lower blood pressure and causing relax effect and increasing the need of sleep in the elderly. Aim: This study goal is to examine the correlation between gymnastic frequency and insomnia level in elderly at Panti Werdha Bhakti Luhur Tropodo. Method: This study is an analytic study with the cross-sectional design and purposive sampling method. The primary data has been taken for 4 days from July 24 until 28, 2017 by: 1) using valid and reliable questionnaires about demographic data, level of insomnia, and cognitive status; 2) the secondary data for gymnastic frequency has been taken from April to June 2017. The study using the Spearman test. Result: The result showed the value of p=0,79, it can be concluded that there is no significant correlation between gymnastic frequency and insomnia level in elderly.

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the leading health problem in Indonesia. One of the pathophysiology of hypertension is abnormality in nitric oxide production and transport. On the other side, Muntingia calabura L. is a plant that widely distributed in Indonesian and believed to possessed antinociceptive, antioxidant, antihypertension, and antimicrobial effect. Leaves of Muntingia calabura L. comprise of high phenolic compounds which is thought to increase nitric oxide production through the modulation of NOS and ROS inhibition. Aim: To analyze the effect of extract of Muntingia calabura L. leaves toward increment of nitric oxide in Rattus norvegicus. Method: This research is an in vivo experimental study with post-test only control group design, using nitric oxide strips test as measuring instrument. Sample of this experiment is forty Rattus norvegicus divided in five group which is negative control, positive control, treatment 1, treatment 2, and treatment 3. Extract of Muntingia calabura L. leaves with concentration 50, 100, 200 mg/mL given everyday on treatment group and measured every two days until six measurement is acquired. Result: There is increment of NO through administration extract of Muntingia calabura L. leaves in Rattus norvegicus. Conclusion: Highest increment of NO is obtained through administration of Muntingia calabura L. leaves extract at 200 mg/mL concentration.

Introduction: A cataract is an opacity of the lens, caused by many factors. Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) that has been conducted in three provinces (NTB, Jawa Barat, dan Sulawesi Selatan) in 2013-2014 has come into a prediction of new cases of cataract blindness will increase 0.1% from the population or about 250.000 people a year. Metabolic disease such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the well-known factors of cataract. Many studies, including Blue Mountains Eye Study and Beaver Dam Eye Study, have proved the increase of incidence and prevalence of posterior subcapsular cataract on diabetic patients. Posterior subcapsular cataract (PSC) means the lens opacity starts from the posterior part of the lens. Aim: to study whether there is a correlation between DM and PSC in Surabaya or not. Method: This research used the observational study with analytic design, and the method used in this research is cross-sectional. Spearman correlation was used in this research to test the correlation between variables. Result: The population of this study is all pre-surgery senile cataract patients on PHC Hospital Surabaya. Twenty-two samples meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analytic result shows that the correlation between diabetes and the posterior subcapsular senile cataract is insignificant (p= -0.092). Conclusion: The exact pathogenesis of PSC remains unknown. It shows increased degenerative changes and the accumulation of extracellular material which can happen on diabetes patients. However, it has been noted to occur as a result of a gene mutation. That explained the insignificancy result of this research and the different distribution of PSC in the world. Descriptive research about cataract types epidemiology in Indonesia is needed.

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen which can cause infection in every part of the human body lacking normal defense. This bacteria is one of the leading cause of nosocomial infection in Indonesia. Treating infection caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa is now more challenging due to its resistance to many classes of antibiotics. On the other hand, Muntingia calabura L. is a genus of plants in the family Elaeocarpaceae, which is spread widely throughout South East Asia, including Indonesia. Some of the researches in the past show antibacterial properties of these plants. Aim: to determine the antibacterial effect of Muntingia calabura L. Leaf extract to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Method: This research is an experimental study using in vitro technique and non-equivalent control group design. The method used in this study was microdilution in 96-well microplate and concentrations of Muntinga calabura L. Leaf extract used in this study were 50-800mg/mL. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was measured by a spectrophotometer, while Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) was observed by direct streaking to the agar plate. Result: MIC value was found at the concentration range of 400-800 mg/mL, while MBC was found at concentration 800 mg/mL. Conclusion: There is a potential bactericidal effect of Muntingia calabura L. To Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Introduction: Acute appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix vermiformis and is the most frequent cause of acute abdominal. Inflammation occurs due to microorganisms infection that enter the submucosal layer of the appendix and eventually involves all layers of the appendix wall. Acute inflammation can lead to an appendix lumen obstruction, resulting in venous blood engorgement and arterial stenosis. One of the acute appendicitis physiological response from the immune system is an increasing of neutrophils and decreasing of lymphocytes. The result of increasing neutrophils and decreasing lymphocyte are increasing the absolute ratio between neutrophils and lymphocytes Aim: To know the difference of neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio in patients with acute appendicitis without perforation and with perforation at Dr. M. Soewandhie District General Hospital Surabaya. Methods: This research is an analytical research with cross sectional study, with paired categorical analysis sampling method. Respondent of this research is 62 patients, which consist of 31 patients acute appendicitis without perforation and 31 patients acute appendicitis with perforation that fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria in January 2016-August 2017. This research was conducted at Dr. M. Soewandhie District General Hospital Surabaya from Saturday, August 19th, 2017 until Saturday, September 30th, 2017. Results: the difference of neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio in acute appendicitis patient without perofration and with perforation analyze by using Fisher?s Exact Test comparative statistic test, p value 0.000
