Abstract

The construction of canal blocking on canals around community agricultural land in Langsat Permai Village through science and technology activities for Mitra Village in 2017-2019 has provided an increase in agricultural yields for both food crops and horticulture. Furthermore, the construction of canal blocking also has an impact on the use of canals for fish farming. Therefore, the purpose of this service activity is to provide assistance in the cultivation of catfish cages and the manufacture of fish feed based on agricultural raw materials and agricultural waste in karang taruna. The success of catfish growth is strongly influenced by the type and amount of feed given. The more feed that is given, the faster the fish will grow but the higher the production costs. Therefore, alternative feeds are needed to reduce the use of fish pellets by making feed made from agricultural raw materials and agricultural waste. Farmer is carried out both in fish cultivation and in the manufacture of fish feed by agricultural raw materials and agricultural waste. Based on the results, all members of karang taruna have understood about catfish farming activities in cages and making fish feed based on agricultural raw materials and agricultural waste. This shows that integrated agriculture has been formed in Langsat Permai Village.

Abstract

Nutritional problems that teenagers often experience are malnutrition, overweight, obesity and anemia. Risk of anemia in teenage girls is higher than in boys because of the increased demand of iron during the menstruation period. However this also becomes problematic because girls often limit their food intake. Blood Boost Formula is often prescribed to prevent anemia in teenage girls. The purpose of this community dedication activity is to find out about the compliance with consuming Blood Boost Formula, anemia prevalence and knowledge improvement of the audience after the program. This community dedication activity used comics and social media such as WhatsApp group. The target of this activity is 47 teenage girls of SMK Budi Nasional Tebing Tinggi students. Measured parameters for evaluation are medication compliance with consuming Blood Boost Formula, the degrees of awareness in anemia using questionnaire and anemia prevalence through Hemoglobin test using digital test. The results are showing that 69% of the students are not complying with the medication. There are 34% anemia prevalences. The pretest score was 20 points at the lowest and 60 points at the highest. While the post-test score was 27 points at the lowest and 67 points at the highest. There is an increase of mean value between pretest and post-test by about 10 points.

Abstract

The prevalence of pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) in penitentiaries is 3 times higher compared to the general population. Reviono (2016), TB ranks in the 4th among the most common illnesses suffered by prisoners and is the major cause of morbidity and death in penitentiaries and detention centers in Indonesia. Sarumpaet and Syarifah (2018) posit the effectiveness of using SOSA (Sori-Syarifah) bags compared to SOSA bottles including 5% of Chlorophen accompanied by masks, tissues in cutting off the transmission of pulmonary TB with Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB+). SOSA bottles is significantly more effective (p <0.05) compared to the SOSA bags. A community service is needed in applying SOSA bottles to reduce the incidence of pulmonary TB, begins with the cooperation of partners, which is the doctor at the Penitentiary. The socialization of SOSA bottle application method has been carried out to reduce the risk of pulmonary TB transmission to the prison staff, health care workers, cadres and prisoner pulmonary TB patients at the penitentiary. The evaluation shows that the application of SOSA bottles has been done by the prisoner TB patients, while the reason for not using SOSA bottles is that there is no more sputum.

Abstract

The average farmer in Kota Datar Village has a livelihood as a breeder, especially cattle farming. Maintenance is carried out by keeping in the cage all the time, so that animal waste is only left to accumulate around the cage. Moreover, during the rainy season, livestock manure cannot be processed into compost, the resulting pollution has the potential to widen into the realm of social problems. The limited use of livestock manure as compost and its low selling value makes farmers feel unwilling to use it. With the cultivation of earthworms, this manure can produce vermicompost. In addition to the content of nutrients and growth hormones contained in vermicompost, the selling value of the fertilizer is also higher when compared to other compost fertilizers. The method of implementing this service was by conducting socialization and training as well as the practice of making vermicompost.
