Abstract

Sexual violence is a crime in which the victims are usually blamed for being the cause. When it happened to a cisgender heterosexual woman, many people tend to use her appearance and her behavior to justify the victim blaming. It would even be more complicated for lesbian, bisexual women, or female-to-male transgender (LBT). When sexual violence happened to them, their sexual and/or gender identity tend to be added on the reasons to justify the perpetrators’ actions. Strangely, in contrast to that, this crime is also usually thought as the cause of their being LBT. This paper is aimed to explore this paradoxical thoughts of sexual violence against LBT, its effects on LBT’s lives, and efforts made to break through the paradox itself.

Abstract

This article’s main purpose is to offer a critical perspective on the increased intensity of encouraging women’s role in science and technology. It is not to be denied that the effort to reconcile women with skills-based technology can be a strategic way to free women from science segregation. Nevertheless, technology, especially in an industrial society, is also a commodity, and it is often utilized for the flow of profits in which women tend to be mere objects. This paper emphasizes that the effort to popularize women’s role in the field of science and technology should be followed by education for women about the importance of being a fully selfaware subject. Thus, women’s contributions to the evolution of technology should always be understood as a process of women’s liberation rather than as a trap that ensnares them in exploitative practices.

Abstract

Feminist politics is a perpetual investment in a just civilization. It awares of the injustice structure that is inherently located within the sociological body of patriarchal system. It needs more than voluntary-echo in democracy rather a strong conceptual tools that will enlighten the dialectic transport of communication in democratic system. Any feminists shall be alert to watch and guard, as well as, cynically, radically, monitor the run of the new-elected president—whether he will bring mandate of equality or not. Short-term strategy has been invested to block the new-order regime to take control; and long-term strategy shall be invested to guarantee the system of equality in the new cabinet.

Abstract

This paper paper examines human rights including women’s human rights (women’s rights), the adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and other international human rights instruments. Referring to CEDAW’s principles together with human rights principles, States are urged to create law that promotes women’s perspective. Unfortunately until now, there are many policies and laws, at any levels— national and province/district/city—discriminate against women. Regarding this, this paper will focus to list on Bills which become the advocacy priority for women’s movement in Indonesia.

Abstract

There are two problems that often emerge in public discussions about the recent trends in the level of participation of the female labor force in Indonesia. The first is the low Indonesian female labour force partipation rate (FLFPR) compared to other ASEAN countries. The second is the trend of stagnation of Indonesian FLFPR—at around 51%—over almost three decades. By reviewing cross-country data from the Global Gender Gap Index and the International Labor Organization, this article rests on the argument that the two features of Indonesian FLFPR are not merely bad news, and should be read in the context of large economic growth and social change in Indonesia. But a more critical and thorough interpretation of the trend of this indicator does not deny the fact that there is still wide room to improve women's economic participation and opportunity in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article describes how seven female activists from civil organizations participate in 2004 and 2009 elections. On the frame of the implementation of women’s representation in parliament that has been started since 2004 election, this article unearths women’s representation movement based on the actors’ experiences to participate in election. Using case study method and analysis with process tracing, this article argues that women activists, who participated in two elections, have contributed to implement women’s representation into their political parties and parliament.
