Abstract

Sexual violence is a crime against humanity, violations of human rights and gender-based violence. Meanwhile since the 1998-2013 National Commission on Violence Against Women has been monitoring and documentating 15 (fifteen) forms of sexual violences. National Commission on Violence Against Women was classifying all forms of sexual violence from 15 forms into 6 sexual violences based on common elements in criminal offense. So far the handling cases of sexual violence faced barrier to prevention, protection, recovery of victims, rehabilitation of offenders, and the criminal justice procedure of law. State should be responsible quickly to enact Law on Elimination of Sexual Violence, as part of country’s efforts in implementing the principles of due diligence.

Abstract

Women at Air Sugihan are unique. They are able to sustain life under harsh natural conditions. Red swamp water, uncultivated peat lands, ashes from the burned forest as a result of simple and cheap land clearing techniques; as well as debt bondage as a cash-advanced to finance the farm-production activities which then aggravated their SRHR (sexual and reproductive health and rights), substantive health care and access to nutrition. This makes women at Air Sugihan struggled within harsh nature condition for the survival of their families for the sake of food security and for sustainable nature and environmental conservation. Starting from very limited experience to live in harsh condition, women reduce the family burden of living in poverty by sustaining water, land and family-economy.

Abstract

The increasing number of violence against women every year raises question about the effectiveness of intergrated service programs for the women victims of violence. The government established the Integrated Service Center for Women and Children Empowerment (P2TP2A) in 2002 supported by National Commission on Violence against Women (KOMNAS Perempuan) in the effort to provide protection and empowerment of women victims of violence. However, the increasingly diverse forms of violence against women have resulted in complex needs of the victims. The question arises whether the function and performance role of P2TP2A has fully answered the needs of victims or not. This article focuses on assessments conducted by KOMNAS Perempuan and Forum Pengada Layanan (FPL) in 16 provinces to re-examine the role of P2TP2A's functions and performance in meeting the needs of victims. Based on the findings of the assessment, there are still shortcomings in the system and performance of P2TP2A in providing victims’ needs, such as lack of awareness as service providers, coordination problems among institutions and limited budget. This assessment uses in-depth interviews and document studies, by including the lessons from the P2TP2A Surakarta city, Bandung district and Central Java Province.

Abstract

This paper investigates the child-marriage in West Kalimantan. This study took Desa Cowet who is inhabited mainly by Dayak Mali. The issue of child-marriage is perpetuated by the Law in Indonesia. The effort to eliminate child-marriage is often difficult due to the high-rate of poverty among Dayak Mali people. Within Indigenous Law, there is no specific rules that arrange child-marriage or age of minimum to marriage. What is stated is usually the approval of both parents to the couple. Child-marriage among Dayak Mali, this study confirmed, is basically mostly triggered by poverty of girls in villages. Poor girl of Dayak Mali are basically prone to child-marriage.

Abstract

This article is a reflection on feminist education at the complex intersection of feminism, the workers movement and the movement towards social transformation in Indonesia. It raises questions about the effectiveness of gender training programs that have become almost a prerequisite for programs and funding among many non-government organizations, national and international. The writerargues that the institutionalization of gender training has been dissociated from the movement for transformational justice and from the concrete experience of workers.

Abstract

This study provides an overview of problems faced by LGBT in Indonesia. There are four issues raised i.e. the meaning of gender and sexual orientation, violence and abuse, the role of the state , and the meaning of happiness. This study uses a sample of 60 respondents living in big cities, especially in Jakarta. However, the strength of this study lies not in the result of the survey, but the result of the indepth interviews. From this study it was found that in the context of a conservative state, the respondents are more open through interviews. This study unearth LGBT’s meaning of life under the repressive and absence role of the state.
