Abstract

Fast Fourier Transform has long been established as an essential tool in signal processing. To address the computational issues while helping the analysis work for multi-dimensional signals in image processing, sparse Fast Fourier Transform model is reviewed here when applied in different applications such as lithography optimization, cancer detection, evolutionary arts and wasterwater treatment. As the demand for higher dimensional signals in various applications especially multimedia appplications, the need for sparse Fast Fourier Transform grows higher.

Abstract

A perfect auction policy is one of the most strategic elements that contribute to success factor for any e-Procurement system. An auction policy can be only term as an effective if it really offer win-win situation to both the bidder as well as to the merchant. After reviewing existing studies on e-Procurement system, it is found that there isno effective research work focusing on this point and maximum research contribution has limited its scope to certain application or case studis. Hence, the proposed system introduces a novel e-Procurement system which is equipped by an itelligence-building process for performing predictive analysis of ongoing auction process. A mathematical modelling is implemented where all teh variables have been formed using practical implementation of auction system and followed by optimization process using regression-based approach. The study outcome shows that proposed system offers better response time and higher predictive accuracy in contrast to existing approaches.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the severity of lightning induced voltages on a gas pipeline installed in parallel with overhead transmission line using two different simulation packages. The results from this study using CDEGS, which solves a given problem based on electromagnetic computations, reveal that the induced voltages on the pipeline are more accurate compared to that obtained by PSCAD simulation, which is based on the circuit approach. Unlike PSCAD, CDEGS considers many salient factors such as soil model, inductive, capacitive and conductive couplings, and multiple soil structures.  Models of a double circuit 132kV transmission line, gas pipelines, soil with different resistivities and variable lightning surges were developed. The effects of pipelines located at various heights above ground and distance of pipeline from the power lines were also studied. Compared to previously published work using PSCAD, it is found that CDEGS has given more accurate results. Several findings which were not possible using PSCAD were observed such as the effect of soil structure on induced voltage and multiple layers soil. This also led to better understanding of the conductive coupling from lightning strikes and fault conditions. The modeling work using CDEGS not only useful for providing more reliable data for further protection and mitigation techniques, but is  also very versatile to study the effects of various other important factors affecting the induced voltage on the pipelines.

Abstract

Network communication technologies have been growing explosively due to the increasing demand on faster and simpler communication; hence, providing new communication technologies is a challenging task. To make this task easy, many researchers have developed different network modeling and simulation tools with different characteristics. In this paper, simulation of Near Field Communication (NFC) logical layer control protocol is proposed to investigate efficiency of NFC device in peer-to-peer mode. For this purpose, Colored Petri Net (CPN) and Timed Automata (TA) have been used for analyses. According to the results, CPN was better than TA for simulating NFC logical layer control protocol because it could provide more details on complex communication network.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i2.5154

Abstract

We presented a learning model that generated natural language description of images. The model utilized the connections between natural language and visual data by produced text line based contents from a given image. Our Hybrid Recurrent Neural Network model is based on the intricacies of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Bi-directional Recurrent Neural Network (BRNN) models. We conducted experiments on three benchmark datasets, e.g., Flickr8K, Flickr30K, and MS COCO. Our hybrid model utilized LSTM model to encode text line or sentences independent of the object location and BRNN for word representation, this reduced the computational complexities without compromising the accuracy of the descriptor. The model produced better accuracy in retrieving natural language based description on the dataset.

Abstract

This research presents a new scheme to extract the maximal available power from a wind turbine employing a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). This scheme is developed from the wind turbine’s MPPT-curve. Furthermore, we propose control laws for the rotor and grid side-converters. The stability of the proposed maximum available power method and the control laws are proved mathematically upon Lyapunov’s stability criterion. Their efficiency is tested through the simulations of a DFIG wind turbine in Matlab/Simulink. Simulation results are analyzed and compared with that using a conventional scheme. Thanks to the suggested scheme, the wind turbine can track its maximum power point better and the electric energy output is higher comparing with that using the conventional scheme. Furthermore, by the suggested controllers, the rotor speed and current of the DFIG converged to their desired values. In other words, the wind turbine can achieve stable operations by the suggested control laws.

Abstract

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has established into a powerful solution for our construction requirements throughout its life cycle. Compared to conventional methods, BIM offers simple, faster and accurate methodology for modelling, estimation and analysis. In this paper, a novel Autodesk Revit add-in tool named as “Electrical System Estimation and Costing Tool”(ESECT) is proposed for the simultaneous estimation of electrical connected load, demand load, Volt Ampere per square meter, cost of electrical system construction and monthly bill from a residential building model and the add-in tool is developed by using Visual basic C# language.  Research results indicate that wide range of BIM automated tools are possible for code-checking and estimation for design analysis at all stages of electrical system development and eventually leads to better design and cost reduction.

Abstract

As reported in past decades, gallium nitride as one of the most capable compound semiconductor, GaN-based high-electron mobility transistors are the focus of intense research activities in the area of high power, high-speed, and high-temperature transistors. In this paper we present a design and simulation of the GaN based thin film transistor using sentaurus TCAD for the extracting the electrical performance. The resulting GaN TFTs exhibits good electrical performance in the simulated results, including, a threshold voltage of 12-15 V, an on/off current ratio of 6.5×107 ~8.3×108, and a sub-threshold slope of 0.44V/dec. Sentaurus TCAD simulations is the tool  which offers study of comprehensive behavior of semiconductor structures with ease. The simulation results of the TFT structure based on gallium nitride active channel have great prospective in the next-generation flat-panel display applications.

Abstract

The optimal sizing of analog circuits is one of the most complicated processes, because of the number of variables taken into, to the number of required objectives to be optimized and to the constraint functions restrictions. The aim is to automate this activity in order to accelerate the circuits design and sizing. In this paper, we deal with the optimization of the three stage bipolar transistor amplifier performances namely the voltage gain (AV), the input impedance (ZIN), the output impedance (ZOUT), the power consumption (P) and the low and the high cutoff frequency (FL,FH), through the Genetic Algorithm (GA). The presented optimization problem is of multi-dimensional parameters, and the trade-off of all parameters. In fact, the passive components (Resistors and Capacitors) are selected from manufactured constant values (E12, E24, E48, E96, E192) for the purpose of reduce the cost of design; also, the intrinsic parameters of transistors (hybrid parameters and the junction capacitances) are considered variables in order not to be limited in design. SPICE simulation is used to validate the obtained result/performances.

Abstract

The demand for internet applications has increased rapidly.  Providing quality of service (QoS) requirements for varied internet application is a challenging task. One important factor that is significantly affected on the QoS service is the transport layer. The transport layer provides end-to-end data transmission across a network. Currently, the most common transport protocols used by internet application are TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol). Also, there are recent transport protocols such as DCCP (data congestion control protocol), SCTP (stream congestion transmission protocol), and TFRC (TCP-friendly rate control), which are in the standardization process of Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). In this paper, we evaluate the performance of  UDP, DCCP, SCTP and TFRC protocols for different traffic flows: data transmission, video traffic, and VOIP in wired networks. The performance criteria used for this evaluation include throughput, end to end delay, and packet loss rate. Well-known network simulator NS-2 used to implement the UDP, DCCP, SCTP, and TFRC protocols performance comparison. Based on the simulation results, the performance throughput of  SCTP and TFRC is better than UDP. Moreover, DCCP performance is superior SCTP and TFRC in term of end-to-end delay.
