Abstract

Vocal disorders directly arise from the physical shape of the vocal cords. Videostroboscopic imaging provides doctors with valuable information about the physical shape of the vocal cords and about the way these cords move. Segmentation of the glottal space is necessary in order to characterize morphological disorders of vocal folds. One of the main problems with the methods presented is their low level of accuracy. To solve this problem, an automatic method based on Mathematical Morphology edge detection and the Hough transformation is presented in this article to extract the glottal space from the videostroboscopic images presented. This method and two other popular algorithms, histogram and active contour, are performed on 10 sets of videostroboscopy data from excised larynx experiments to compare their performances in analyzing videostroboscopy images. The accuracy in computing glottal area of these methods are investigated. The results show that our proposed method provides the most accurate and efficient detection, and is applicable when processing low-resolution images. In this paper we used edge detection based on geometric morphology to detecting the edges of vocal cords. Then in the next step the edges that were extracted, using Hough transform change to some lines. After that through using proposed algorithm, we omit the extra lines and extract the glottis.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i4.324

Abstract

Digital watermarking is an alternative solution to prevent unauthorized duplication, distribution and breach of ownership right. This paper proposes a watermarking scheme for multiple watermarks embedding. The embedding of multiple watermarks use a block-based scheme based on human visual characteristics. A threshold is used to determine the watermark values by modifying first column of the orthogonal U matrix obtained from Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The tradeoff between normalize cross-correlation and imperceptibility of watermarked image from quantization steps was used to achieve an optimal threshold value. The results show that our proposed multiple watermarks scheme exhibit robustness against signal processing attacks. The proposed scheme demonstrates that the watermark recovery from chrominance blue was resistant against different types of attacks.

Abstract

We are living in an era of information explosion. There are challenges with large and complex amount of data generated every day by social networks, wikis, blogs, emails, traffic system, bridges, airplanes and engine, satellites and weather sensors. 90% of current data in the world has been created in the last two years. Our smart planet becomes more and more intelligent. Besides the challenges posed by such vast amount of data including storage, search, sharing, analysis, and visualization, there are also much opportunities for the world as it becomes more and more digitalized. This study presents Big Data and highlights its key concepts and state-of-the-art implementation as well as research challenges and suggests research directions for future. IT log analytics, Fraud detection pattern, social media pattern and modeling and management patterns are some of opportunities. Hadoop is a cloud based and open source solution for Big Data Analytics which has been written by java. Hadoop solution is currently still immature. In this paper, three topics are suggested for research direction: Security issues in Big Data, context-aware information retrieval, and integrating ontology with Big Data.

Abstract

Gold is one of the main commodities where the customers invest their money comparatively with bank for better interest. In the Indian context people purchase gold for their children’s marriages for later period. The investment in gold is better suits for easy conversion into money with quickest possible time from the bank and gold merchants. The appreciation or depreciation of gold based on other investment options like fixed deposit, provident fund, international crude oil price, stock market, mutual fund etc. The comparative analysis of gold with other investment options give an edge to the customer to clearly understand the investment pattern for their hard-earned money expected to give good returns in the future.

Abstract

Graphene is a promising new material for the construction of graphene devices because of its surface modification can be tuned the band gap. In this paper, the electronic and transport characteristics of defected graphene device are investigated. Both the electronic and transport characteristics are simulated using density functional theory (DFT). The band structures and transmission spectra are analyzed. The conductance and thermal conductance characteristic for both graphene is compared. From the simulation, it is found that the conductance, thermal conductance, and the I-V curves depend on the transmission spectrum of the graphene sheet or graphene device itself. The comparison between the defected graphene itself shows that the single layer with two vacancies shows better performance.

Abstract

Technical and technological advances in alternative energy sources have led many countries to add green energy to their power plants to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution. At present, many electricity companies are looking to use alternative sources of energy because of high electrical energy prices. Wind energy is more useful than many renewable energies such as solar, heat, biomass, etc. The Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) is a system that converts the kinetic energy of the wind into electrical energy to feed the known loads. WECS can be found in a variety of technology. Climate change and load demand are essential determinants of WECS optimization modelling. In this paper, proposed a strategy focused primarily on economic analysis WECS. The strategy based on a weather change to find the optimal designing and modelling for four different types of WECS using HOMER software. Finally, several criteria were used to determine which type of WECS was the most profitable investment and less payback period.

Abstract

Photovoltaic (PV) systems are normally modeled by employing accurate equations dealing with a behavior the PV system. This model has Characteristic of PV array cells, which are influenced by both irradiation and temperature variations. Grid-connected PV system is considered as electricity generated solar cell system which is connected to the grid utilities. This paper characterizes an exhibiting and simulating of PV system that executed with MATLAB /Simulink. The impact of solar irradiances as well as ambient temperature performances of PV models is investigated and noted that a lower temperature provides maximum power higher so that the open circuit voltage is larger. Furthermore, if the temperature is low, then a considerably short circuit current is low too.

Abstract

The area of optical network is on constant point of focus among the research communities owing to potential advantage of long distance communication as well as the routing issues associated with it. Majority of the implemented techniques calls for using expensive hardware or adopting narrowed technical assumptions, for which reason the routing performance couldn’t be optimized to a large extent. The present manuscript proposes a novel technique called as Optimized Routing for Peak Traffic under the scenario of uncertainties in the existing traffic scenario. The proposed solution presents some potential principle that is incorporated in the ROADM design for enhancing the capabilities of the proposed system.  The system is evaluated under multiple scenarios of analysis using blocking probabilities, OSNR, bit error rate, iteration etc. The outcome of the proposed system is compared with the one of the existing significant study to benchmark it.

Abstract

Multiphase machines have gained attention in numerous fields of pplications such as Aircraft, ship propulsion, petrochemical and automobiles, where high reliability is required. The additional number of phases guarantees that the system continues to operate in faulty conditions compared to the traditional three-phase machine due to the high degree of freedom. Among faults able to affect multiphase system, break between a machine phase and the voltage source inverter (VSI) degrade the performance of the control. In this paper, a five-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) is fed through a fault tolerant voltage source inverter with new structure to ensure drive continuity when open circuit occurs. The five phase PMSM is controlled with fuzzy logic regulator to minimize disturbance impact that can arise fault condition. Paper is accomplished with real time simulations using MATLAB-Simulink in order to validate the new topology and show the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose an energy management system with hybrid solar and wind renewable energy system (RES) with Multilevel inverter to give a lossless power to load. This system continuously receives the battery storage and power consumption after it checks the these value with default value if power consumption is exceeds default value means it turn off  the loads. We are assigns the priority to the loads in order to overcome the user inconvenient. To increase PV module output MPPT is used. The existing system uses only boost converter, in our paper boost converter is combined with buck converter used because the PV module can produce high voltage  than DC-bus voltage. Buck converter used to step down purpose. In this  system  on-line configuration check and buck-boost mode transition will be presented. Experimental results measured from three-string MPPTs with EMS the maximum power level of 10 kW are used to verify the analysis and discussion with hybrid cascaded multilevel inverter.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i1.4529
