Abstract

A low power high speed 32 Bit ROM circuit implemented on 0.18µm CMOS process has been presented in this paper. The circuit is build using a parallel ROM core structure and runs on 1.8 V supply voltage. A novel Address Transition Decoder (ATD) circuit is proposed which energizes the ROM components such as Row Decoder, Column Decoder, ROM core etc, for short time intervals when there is a transition in input address bits. The power consumed in ROM with proposed ATD circuit is 0.78 mW, which corresponds to 82.27% reduction in power as compared to ROM without ATD circuit (4.46 mW). At the output almost full signal swing has been achieved without using any sense amplifier. The implemented ROM has a very low latency of 0.56 ns.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i4.3165

Abstract

In the present paper, we will attempt to predict the Ipv-Vpv output characteristic of a photovoltaic generator (PVG) and consequently the generated electric power. This will be possible through modeling, extracting the electrical parameters of the PVG under study and also, by estimating the global incident solar radiation, on a surface, first horizontally, and then tilted to a given angle. Mathematical models developed in Matlab, to characterize the studied PVG are validated by experimental data of the PVG manufacture. While models associated with global radiation are validated by measurements taken by the meteorological station installed on the laboratory site ERTAIER (Team for Research in Technology and Advanced Engineering of Renewable Energies) of Higher School of Technology Agadir (ESTA).

Abstract

In virtualized servers, with live migration technique pages are copied from one physical machine to another while the virtual machine (VM) is running. The dynamic migration of virtual machines encumbers the data center which in turn reduces the performance of applications running on that particular physical machine. A considerable number of studies have been carried out in the area of performance evaluation during live VM migration.  However, all the aspects related to the migration process have not been examined for the performance assessment. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to evaluate the performance during migration process in different types of coupled machine environment. It is presented here that the state of art VM migration technology requires further improvement in realizing effective migration by monitoring comprehensive performance value. We introduced the parameter, θ, to compare performance value which can be used for controlling and halting unsuccessful migration and save significant amount of time in migration operation.  Our model is capable of analyzing real time scenario of cloud performance assessment targeting VM migration strategies. It also offers the possibility of further expanding to universal models for analyzing the performance variations that occurs as a result of VM migration.

Abstract

Unmaned Aircraft Systems (UAS) have been increasing in popularity in personal, commercial, and military applications. The increase of the use of UAS poses a significant risk to general air travel, and will burden an already overburdened Air Traffic Control (ATC) network if the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system does not undergo a revolutionary change. Already there have been many near misses reported in the news with personal hobbyist UAS flying in controlled airspace near airports almost colliding with manned aircraft. The expected increase in the use of UAS over the upcoming years will exacerbate this problem, leading to a catastrophic incident involving substantial damage to property or loss of life. ATC professionals are already overwhelmed with the air traffic that exists today with only manned aircraft. With UAS expected to perform many tasks in the near future, the number of UAS will greatly outnumber the manned aircraft and overwhelm the ATC network in short order to the point where the current system will be rendered extremely dangerous, if not useless. This paper seeks to explore the possibility of using the artificial intelligence concept of fuzzy logic to automate the ATC system in order to handle the increased traffic due to UAS safely and efficiently. Automation would involve an algorithm to perform arbitration between aircraft based on signal input to ATC ground stations from aircraft, as well as signal output from the ATC ground stations to the aircraft. Fuzzy logic would be used to assign weights to the many different variables involved in ATM to find the best solution, which keeps aircraft on schedule while avoiding other aircraft, whether they are manned or unmanned. The fuzzy logic approach would find the weighted values for the available variables by running a simulation of air traffic patterns assigning different weights per simulation run, over many different runs of the simulation, until the best values are found that keep aircraft on schedule and maintain the required separation of aircraft

Abstract

This article discusses possibility of harness wiring with the use of focusing system of high frequency eigenfields of accelerating resonators in standing wave linear accelerators on the basis of biperiodic slowing systems. The scopes of business activities and specificity of existing engineering processes applied in industry, especially in chemistry and metallurgy, require for special measures on environmental protection. At present electron linear accelerators operating in pulse mode are used for application purposes. Such accelerators can be characterized by sufficient beam power for efficient industrial use and for environmental protection. The results of numerical analysis of electron dynamics in two-section accelerator upon various initial conditions are presented. The obtained results are applied for development of actual accelerator, calculated and experimental data are given. The performed experimental study confirmed possibility of development of standing wave linear accelerator without external magnetic focusing system with output beam diameter of not higher than . The results of calculations of beam dynamics are experimentally verified.

Abstract

The consistent demand for higher data rates and need to send giant volumes of data while not compromising the quality of communication has led the development of a new generations of wireless systems. But range and data rate limitations are there in wireless devices. In an attempt to beat these limitations, Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) systems will be used which also increase diversity and improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of wireless systems. They additionally increase the channel capacity, increase the transmitted data rate through spatial multiplexing, and/or reduce interference from other users. MIMO systems therefore create a promising communication system because of their high transmission rates without additional bandwidth or transmit power and robustness against multipath fading. This paper provides the overview of Multiuser MIMO system. A detailed review on how to increase performance of system and reduce the bit error rate (BER) in different fading environment e.g. Rayleigh fading, Rician fading, Nakagami fading, composite fading.

Abstract

In order to contribute to the security of sharing and transferring medical images, we had presented a multiple watermarking technique for multiple protections; it was based on the combination of three transformations: the discrete wavelet transform (DWT), the fast Walsh-Hadamard transform (FWHT) and, the singular value decomposition (SVD). In this paper, three watermark images of sizes 512x 512 were inserted into a single medical image of various modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and X-Radiation (X-ray). After applying DWT up to the third level on the original image, the high-resolution sub-bands were being selected subsequently to apply FWHT and then SVD. The singular values of the three watermark images were inserted into the singular values of the cover medical image. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of quality and robustness compared to other reported techniques cited in the literature.

Abstract

Incremental Learning on non stationary distribution has been shown to be a very challenging problem in machine learning and data mining, because the joint probability distribution between the data and classes changes over time. Many real time problems suffer concept drift as they changes with time. For example, an advertisement recommendation system, in which customer’s behavior may change depending on the season of the year, on the inflation and on new products made available. An extra challenge arises when the classes to be learned are not represented equally in the training data i.e. classes are imbalanced, as most machine learning algorithms work well only when the training data  is balanced. The objective of this paper is to develop an ensemble based classification algorithm for non-stationary data stream (ENSDS) with focus on two-class problems. In addition, we are presenting here an exhaustive comparison of purposed algorithms with state-of-the-art classification approaches using different evaluation measures like recall, f-measure and g-mean

Abstract

In this paper we introduce a R-peak detection algorithm using the Hilbert transform for electrocardiogram processing. This algorithm uses the envelope obtained from Hilbert transform to detect the R-peaks in the ECG signal. The algorithm adaptively determines the threshold for peak determination. This technique minimizes the unwanted effects of large peaked T and P waves. Main advantage of this algorithm is that it performs extremely well in the pragmatic presence of noise.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i5.1439
