Scheduling mechanism is the process of allocating radio resources to User Equipment (UE) that transmits different flows at the same time. It is performed by the scheduling algorithm implemented in the Long Term Evolution base station, Evolved Node B. Normally, most of the proposed algorithms are not focusing on handling the real-time and non-real-time traffics simultaneously. Thus, UE with bad channel quality may starve due to no resources allocated for quite a long time. To solve the problems, Exponential Blind Equal Throughput (EXP-BET) algorithm is proposed. User with the highest priority metrics is allocated the resources firstly which is calculated using the EXP-BET metric equation. This study investigates the implementation of the EXP-BET scheduling algorithm on the FPGA platform. The metric equation of the EXP-BET is modelled and simulated using System Generator. This design has utilized only 10% of available resources on FPGA. Fixed numbers are used for all the input to the scheduler. The system verification is performed by simulating the hardware co-simulation for the metric value of the EXP-BET metric algorithm. The output from the hardware co-simulation showed that the metric values of EXP-BET produce similar results to the Simulink environment. Thus, the algorithm is ready for prototyping and Virtex-6 FPGA is chosen as the platform.

This paper investigates an improved current predictive model control (PCMC) strategy with a prediction horizon of one sampling time for voltage regulation in standalone system based on diesel engine driven fixed speed of a synchronous generator. An adaptive PR controller with anti-windup scheme is employed to achieve high performance regulation without saturation issues. In addition, new method to obtain the optimal parameters of the adaptive PR controller to achieve high performance during the transition and in steady state is provided. To balance the power at the point of common coupling (PCC) as well as to feed a clean power to the connected loads, a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) with LRC filter is controlled using the developed improved PCMC strategy, where the output filter current is controlled using the predicting of the system behaviour model in the future step, at each sampling prediction time. The performances of the proposed configuration and the improved control strategy are verified using Matlab/Simulink interface.

DNA bar-coding is a technique that uses the short DNA nucleotide sequences from the standard genome of the species in order to find and group the species to which it belongs to. The species are identified by their DNA nucleotide sequences in the same way the items are recognized and billed in the supermarket using barcode scanner to scan the Universal Product Code of the items. Two items may look same to the untrained eye, but in both cases the barcodes are distinct. It was possible to create DNA-barcodes to characterize species by analysing DNA samples from fish, birds, mammals, plants, and invertebrates using Smith-waterman and Needleman-Wunsch algorithm. In this work we are creating human DNA barcode and implementing Extended Levenshtein distance algorithm along with STR analysis that uses less computation time compared to the previously used algorithms to measure the differential distance between the two DNA nucleotide sequences through which an individual can be identified.

Synchronized phasor measurements have become the measurement technique of choice for electric power systems. They provide positive sequence voltage and current measurements synchronized to within a microsecond. The objective is to use the spanning tree approach and tree search technique for optimal placement of multichannel and minimum channel synchronized phasor measurement units (PMUs) in order to have full observability of Power System. The novel concept of depth of observability is used and its impact on the number of PMU placements is explained. The spanning tree approach is used for the power system graphs and a tree search technique is used for finding the optimal location of PMUs. This is tested on IEEE-14 and IEEE-30 bus system. The same technique is modified to optimally place minimum channel PMUs on the same IEEE-14 and IEEE-30 bus systems. Matlab tool has been used for fulfilling the objective.

This paper derives an expression of efficiency of wireless power transfer on a situation that there are two devices towards one AC power supply. The interaction between a power supply and load is paid attention on a conventional wireless power transfer system, in contrast, the interaction between loads must be taken account of on the situation too. This is attributed to a possibility that a load disturbs the energy transmitted from a power supply to another load. Moreover each load needs different frequency of power supply for the ideal transfer since they have different natural frequencies on many situations. This paper models a circumstance that there are a power supply and two loads with a state space equation, and proposes how to decide a frequency of power supply to realize efficient transfer for each load.

The verification of vehicle documents is an important role of transport department which is rising day by day due to the mass registration of the vehicles. An automated vehicle verification system can improve the efficiency of this process. In this paper, we propose an IOT based vehicle verification system using RFID technology. As a result, the vehicle checking which is done now manually can be replaced by automation. There is a loss of a significant amount of time when the normal vehicle checking is done manually. The proposed system will make this process automated. The present verification process is using inductive loops that are placed in a roadbed for detecting vehicles as they pass through the loop of the magnetic field. Similarly, the sensing devices spread along the road can detect passing vehicles through the Bluetooth mechanism. The fixed audio detection devices that can be used to identify the type of vehicles on the road. Other measurements are fixed cameras installed in specific points of roads for categorising the vehicles. But all these mechanisms cannot verify the documents and certificates of the vehicles. In our work, we have suggested an algorithm using RFID technology to automate the documentation verification process of the vehicles like Pollution, Insurance, Rc book etc with the help of RFID reader placed at road checking areas. This documents will be updated by the motor vehicle department at specific periods.

Video processing has gained a lot of significance because of its applications in various areas of research. This includes monitoring movements in public places for surveillance. Video sequences from various standard datasets such as I2R, CAVIAR and UCSD are often referred for video processing applications and research. Identification of actors as well as the movements in video sequences should be accomplished with the static and dynamic background. The significance of research in video processing lies in identifying the foreground movement of actors and objects in video sequences. Foreground identification can be done with a static or dynamic background. This type of identification becomes complex while detecting the movements in video sequences with a dynamic background. For identification of foreground movement in video sequences with dynamic background, two algorithms are proposed in this article. The algorithms are termed as Frame Difference between Neighboring Frames using Hue, Saturation and Value (FDNF-HSV) and Frame Difference between Neighboring Frames using Greyscale (FDNF-G). With regard to F-measure, recall and precision, the proposed algorithms are evaluated with state-of-art techniques. Results of evaluation show that, the proposed algorithms have shown enhanced performance.

A multi-wavelength fiber laser which is based on a Lyot filter is experimentally demonstrated. A combination of four-wave mixing in a highly nonlinear fiber and Lyot filter mechanism in the laser cavity is able to generate multi-wavelength with relatively high extinction ratio (ER). At the input current of 100mA, six laser lines with ER more than 5 dB are successfully generated. The wavelength spacing for the multi-wavelength is 0.15nm, corresponding to the characteristics of the Lyot filter used.

An automated fundus image analysis is used as a tool for the diagnosis of common retinal diseases. A good quality fundus image results in better diagnosis and hence discarding the degraded fundus images at the time of screening itself provides an opportunity to retake the adequate fundus photographs, which save both time and resources. In this paper, we propose a novel fundus image quality assessment (IQA) model using the convolutional neural network (CNN) based on the quality of optic disc (OD) visibility. We localize the OD by transfer learning with Inception v-3 model. Precise segmentation of OD is done using the GrabCut algorithm. Contour operations are applied to the segmented OD to approximate it to the nearest circle for finding its center and diameter. For training the model, we are using the publicly available fundus databases and a private hospital database. We have attained excellent classification accuracy for fundus IQA on DRIVE, CHASE-DB, and HRF databases. For the OD segmentation, we have experimented our method on DRINS-DB, DRISHTI-GS, and RIM-ONE v.3 databases and compared the results with existing state-of-the-art methods. Our proposed method outperforms existing methods for OD segmentation on Jaccard index and F-score metrics.
