Abstract

The aim of the project is to develop intelligent pillow to monitor the heart rate by using fiber optical sensor. The research is focused upon allowing more automation of patient care, an especially important matter for the elder population or bedridden patients, which is a rapidly growing fraction of much of the world population today. The fiber-optical sensor is built into pillow. Patients can determine their heart rate by just lying on the pillow and the device will not cause any disturbance to patients and at the same time still monitoring the heart rate. ECG electrodes and finger clip / ear lobe clip probes (using IR LED and photodiode technology) are commonly used for monitoring heart rate. Unfortunately, they are inconvenient and inadequate for long-term, everyday measurements. Fiber-optical sensing overcomes many of these challenges by using light rather than electricity and standard optical fiber in place of copper wire. Optical fibers are nonconductive, electrically passive, immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI)-induced noise, and able to transmit data over long distances with little or no loss in signal integrity. Using the concept of light and the benefits of using fiber optical sensors to detect the heart rate, PPG(photoplethysmogram) is being used in this project. A photoplethysmogram (PPG) is an optically obtained plethysmogram, a volumetric measurement of an organ. Abstract

Data mining is an essential process for identifying the patterns in large datasets through machine learning techniques and database systems. Clustering of high dimensional data is becoming very challenging process due to curse of dimensionality. In addition, space complexity and data retrieval performance was not improved. In order to overcome the limitation, Spectral Clustering Based VP Tree Indexing Technique is introduced. The technique clusters and indexes the densely populated high dimensional data points for effective data retrieval based on user query. A Normalized Spectral Clustering Algorithm is used to group similar high dimensional data points. After that, Vantage Point Tree is constructed for indexing the clustered data points with minimum space complexity. At last, indexed data gets retrieved based on user query using Vantage Point Tree based Data Retrieval Algorithm.  This in turn helps to improve true positive rate with minimum retrieval time. The performance is measured in terms of space complexity, true positive rate and data retrieval time with El Nino weather data sets from UCI Machine Learning Repository. An experimental result shows that the proposed technique is able to reduce the space complexity by 33% and also reduces the data retrieval time by 24% when compared to state-of-the-art-works.

Abstract

In this paper, we describe a new and original approach for post-processing step in an OCR system. This approach is based on new method of spelling correction to correct automatically misspelled words resulting from a character recognition step of scanned documents by combining both ontologies and bigram code in order to create a robust system able to solve automatically the anomalies of classical approaches. The proposed approach is based on a hybrid method which is spread over two stages, first one is character recognition by using the ontological model and the second one is word recognition based on spelling correction approach based on bigram codification for detection and correction of errors. The spelling error is broadly classified in two categories namely non-word error and real-word error. In this paper, we interested only on detection and correction of non-word errors because this is the only type of errors treated by an OCR. In addition, the use of an online external resource such as WordNet proves necessary to improve its performances.

Abstract

In recent days, IoT has been widely accepted and WSN (Wireless Sensor network) is being used for variety of the applications such as transportation, medical, environmental, military, it moreover the main aim to deploy the WSN is to collect the data about the given set of phenomena. The common task of WSN is to sense the data and send over the network. Moreover, due to the various purpose such as statistical analysis, the data aggregation is required.  However, the when the dynamic network topology is considered, it is considered to be the very difficult task to provide the secure and efficient data aggregation. The main issue here is to ensure the security and accuracy of the data aggregation. Hence, in this research we have proposed an algorithm named as E-SDA (Efficient Secure Data Aggregation) in order to provide the secure data. In this, the algorithm provides the flexibility to detect the dishonest honest through neighbor monitoring. Later, extensive simulation has been done in order to prove the convergence of our algorithm.

Abstract

In this paper, a multiband and miniature rectangular microstrip antenna is designed and analyzed for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader applications. The miniaturization is achieved using fractal technique and the physical parameters of the structure as well as its ground plane are optimized using CST Microwave Studio. The total area of the final structure is 71.6 x 94 mm2. The results show that the proposed antenna has good matching input impedance with a stable radiation pattern at 915 MHz, 2.45 GHz, and 5.8 GHz.

Abstract

In this paper, we present an approach for mining change in customer’s behavior for the purpose of maintaining robust profiling model over time. Most of previous studies leave important questions unanswered: In developing B2C e-commerce strategies, how do managers implicitly load customer’s profiles based on their satisfaction over the online store characteristics? And: What kind of feedback segments do they have? Our proposed approach does not force customers to explicitly express their preference information over the online service but rather capture their preference from their online activities. The challenge does not only lay in analyzing how customer’s classifier model change and when it does so but also to adapt it to the customer’s click stream data using a new decision tree generation algorithm which takes as inputs new set of variables; categorical, continuous and fuzzy variables. Customer’s online reviews rates are considered as classes. Experiments show that this work performed well in identifying relevant customer’s stream data to judge the chinese e-commerce website “Tmall”. The extracted values of the website’s features are also useful to identifying the satisfaction level when the customer’s rate is not available.

Abstract

Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Network (MRMC-WMN) has been considered as one of the key technology for the enhancement of network performance. It is used in a number of real-time applications such as disaster management system, transportation system and health care system. MRMC-WMN is a multi-hop network and allows simultaneous data transfer by using multiple radio interfaces. All the radio interfaces are typically assigned with different channels to reduce the effect of co-channel interference. In MRMC-WMN, when two nodes transmit at the same channel in the range of each other, generates co-channel interference and degrades the network throughput. Co-channel interference badly affects the capacity of each link that reduces the overall network performance. Thus, the important task of channel assignment algorithm is to reduce the co-channel interference and enhance the network performance. In this paper, the problem of channel assignment has been addressed for MRMC-WMN. We have proposed an Interference Aware, Topology, Power and Flow Control (ITPFC) Channel Assignment algorithm for MRMC-WMN. This algorithm assignes the suitable channels to nodes, which provides better link capacity and reduces the co-channel interference. In the previous work performance of the proposed algorithm has been evaluated for a network of 30 nodes. The aim of this paper is to further evaluate the performance of proposed channel assignment algorithm for 40 and 50 nodes network. The results obtained from these networks show the consistent performance in terms of throughput, delay, packet loss and number of channels used per node as compared to LACA, FCPRA and IATC Channel Assignment algorithms.

Abstract

The growing demand for air-conditioning is one of the largest contributors to Australia overall electricity consumption. This has started to create peak load supply problems for some electricity utilities particularly in Queensland. This research aimed to develop a consumer demand side response model to assist electricity consumers to mitigate peak demand on the electrical network. The proposed model allows consumers to independently and proactively manage air conditioning peak electricity demand. The main contribution of this research is how to show consumers can mitigate peak demands by optimizing energy costs for air conditioning in a several cases such as no spike and spike considering to the probability spike cases may only occur in the middle of the day for half hour, one hour and one and half hour spikes. This model also investigates how air conditioning applied a pre-cooling method when there is a substantial risk of a price spike. The results indicate the potential of the scheme to achieve energy savings and reducing electricity bills (costs) to the consumer. The model was tested with the Queensland electricity market data from Australian Energy Market Operator and Brisbane temperature data from Bureau statistic during hot days.

Abstract

Recently, the e-commerce sites market in Japan is growing. Many companies in e-commerce sites compete for customers each other. Therefore, e-commerce managers need to find good customers who may benefit before these customers purchase at rivals. Some preceding studies discuss which visits lead to purchase. However, it is unclear when a customer visits. In our approach, we predict the day a customer will purchase. As a result, we found some customers who tend to purchase on the day after they viewed many product pages. Abstract

Multicore processors integrate several cores on a single chip. The fixed architecture of multicore platforms often fails to accommodate the inherent diverse requirements of different applications. The permanent need to enhance the performance of multicore architecture motivates the development of a dynamic architecture. To address this issue, this paper presents new algorithms for thread selection in fetch stage. Moreover, this paper presents three new fetch stage policies, EACH_LOOP_FETCH, INC-FETCH, and WZ-FETCH, based on Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression statistic method. These new fetch policies differ on thread selection time which is represented by instructions’ count and window size. Furthermore, the simulation multicore tool, , is adapted to cope with multicore processor dynamic design by adding a dynamic feature in the policy of thread selection in fetch stage. SPLASH2, parallel scientific workloads, has been used to validate the proposed adaptation for multi2sim. Intensive simulated experiments have been conducted and the obtained results show that remarkable performance enhancements have been achieved in terms of execution time and number of instructions per second produces less broadcast operations compared to the typical algorithm.
