Abstract

This paper presents a robust backstepping control (BC) method based on nonlinear disturbance observer (NDOB) for trajectory tracking of the nonholonomic wheeled mobile robot (WMR) in the presence of external disturbances and parameters uncertainties. At first, a bounded Fuzzy logic based backstepping controller (BFLBC) is designed to control the WMR without considering the effects of the external disturbances and the parameters uncertainties. Typically, the conventional BC controller depends upon the state tracking errors analysis, where unbounded velocity signal is produced for the applications that have huge tracking errors. Therefore, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is introduced in this research in order to normalize the state tracking errors, so that the input errors to the BC are bounded to a finite interval. Finally, the designed BFLBC is integrated with the nonlinear disturbance observer in order to attenuate the external disturbances and model uncertainties. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller to generate a bounded velocity signal as well as to stabilize the tracking errors to zero. In addition, the results prove that the proposed controller provide an excellent disturbance attenuation as well as robustness against the parameters uncertainties.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the altitude control algorithm for quadrotor to be able to fly at a particular altitude. Several previous researchers have conducted studies on quadrotor altitude by using PID control but there are problems in the overshoot and oscillation. To optimize the control, tunning on PID algorithm must be first conducted to determine proportional and derivative constants. Hence, the paper presents altitude control modification by using PID-like fuzzy without tuning. The PID algorithm is a control algorithm for linear systems. While, system to be controlled is a non-linear, so that linearization is needed by using equilibrium. The proposed algorithm is a modification of the PID algorithm used as an altitude control which enables quadrotor to be stable when hovering. The algorithm used is not PID algorithm with tuning using fuzzy, but this is a single input single output (SISO) control PID-like fuzzy linear programming. The result of the research shows that quadrotor can hover in a rapid raise time, steady state and settling time without performing overshoot and oscillation.

Abstract

This study aims to select the important features from the combination of porous trabecular pattern with anthropometric features for osteoporosis screening. The study sample has their bone mineral density (BMD) measured at the proximal femur/lumbar spine using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Morphological porous features such as porosity, the size of porous, and the orientation of porous are obtained from each dental radiograph using digital image processing. The anthropometric features considered are age, height, weight, and body mass index (BMI). Decision tree (J.48 method) is used to evaluate the accuracy of morphological porous and anthropometric features for selection data. The study shows that the most important feature is age and the considered features for osteoporosis screening are porosity, vertical pore, and oblique pore. The decision tree has considerably high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity.

Abstract

A newly adopted optimization technique known as sine-cosine algorithm (SCA) is suggested in this research article to tune the gains of Fuzzy-PID controller along with a derivative filter (Fuzzy-PIDF) of a hybrid interconnected system for the Load Frequency Control (LFC). The scrutinized multi-generation system considers hydro, gas and thermal sources in all areas of the dual area power system integrated with UPFC (unified power flow controller) and SMES (Super-conducting magnetic energy storage) units. The preeminence of the offered Fuzzy-PIDF controller is recognized over Fuzzy-PID controller by comparing their dynamic performance indices concerning minimum undershoot, settling time and also peak overshoot. Finally, the sensitiveness and sturdiness of the recommended control method are proved by altering the parameters of the system from their nominal values and by the implementation of random loading in the system.

Abstract

This paper discusses a device for measuring oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate as parameters of the representations of heart conditions. SpO2 device that have been made has a small dimension, wearable and high mobility with battery as the main power source. The device connects to a node MCU as a data processor and an internet network gateway to support internet of things applications. Data sent to the Internet cloud can be accessed online and real time via website for further analysis. The error rate at heart rate measurement is ± 2.8 BPM and for oxygen saturation (SpO2) is ± 1.5%. Testing data transmission delay until it can be displayed on website is 3 second that depends on internet traffic conditions.

Abstract

Mobile nodes roaming around in the hostile environment of mobile adhoc network (MANET) play the role of router as well as terminal. While acting as a router, a node needs to choose a reliable routing protocol. Besides, an encryption algorithm is needed to secure data to be conveyed through the unfriendly atmosphere while acting as a terminal. We have implemented Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) along with Adhoc On Demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol to secure data transmission against blackhole attack in a MANET. ECC, a public key cryptography that works on discrete logarithm problem with a much smaller key size, has been used to encrypt data packets at source node before transmission. We have used AOMDV, a reliable routing protocol compared to its parent protocol, Adhoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV), with a multipath extension, for routing. The encrypted packets transferring between nodes via AOMDV, has been proved secured against blackhole attack. The performance of the secured protocol has been analyzed in terms of different performance metrics and in terms of varying number of blackhole attacker nodes.

Abstract

To meet the need of the computational power, most of the users may go for a cloud based services for its scalability, flexibility and reliability. Cloud services have become an integral part of IT and analytical enterprises. Owing to increase in necessity of commercial cloud products being readily available, it has become extremely difficult for users to identify suitable cloud services. This paper proposes the recommender system precisely designed for the discovery of cloud services. Though there is an exponential increase in demand for cloud services, the amount of research done in this particular field is abysmal. Cloud Service Identification System (CSIS) crawls through Internet, identifies cloud services and stores them in a database. The user’s search query is processed and recommends cloud services accurately.

Abstract

The clustering approach is considered as a vital method for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) by organizing the sensor nodes into specific clusters. Consequently, saving the energy and prolonging network lifetime which is totally dependent on the sensors battery, that is considered as a major challenge in the WSNs. Classification algorithms such as K-means (KM) and Fuzzy C-means (FCM), which are two of the most used algorithms in literature for this purpose in WSNs. However, according to the nature of random nodes deployment manner, on certain occasions, this situation forces these algorithms to produce unbalanced clusters, which adversely affects the lifetime of the network. Based for our knowledge, there is no study has analyzed the performance of these algorithms in terms clusters construction in WSNs. In this study, we investigate in KM and FCM performance and which of them has better ability to construct balanced clusters, in order to enable the researchers to choose the appropriate algorithm for the purpose of improving network lifespan. In this study, we utilize new parameters to evaluate the performance of clusters formation in multi-scenarios. Simulation result shows that our FCM is more superior than KM by producing balanced clusters with the random distribution manner for sensor nodes.

Abstract

Dynamic economic load dispatch (DELD) is one of the major operational decisions in power system operation and control. It is a Dynamic problem due to dynamic nature of Power system and the large variation of load demand. This absolute problem is normally solved by discretisation of the entire dispatch period into a number of small time intervals over which the load is assumed to be constant and the system is considered to be in temporal steady state. This paper presents particle swarm optimization technique to solve the DELD problem for the determination of the global or near global optimum dispatch solution. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, three test systems consisting of 5,10 and 15 generating units, with incorporation of load balance constraints, operating limits, valve point loading, ramp constraints and network lossesare considered and tested. The comparison of numerical results demonstrate the performance and applicability of the proposed method. Abstract

This paper presents the development of three virtual resistance meters using LabVIEW. The unknown resistance is measured in terms of a known resistance of high accuracy by employing (a) a real dc voltage source, (b) a real dc current source, and (c) a virtual dc voltage source. In each case, ratio of two voltage signals is acquired by a single-ADC based multichannel data acquisition card. Therefore error of the ADC gets cancelled, when ratio of two voltages is used in the final calculation of the value of unknown resistance. The first two VRMs use a real excitation source and are thus semi-virtual instruments, whereas the third one is fully-virtual as the excitation source is also implemented in the LabVIEW software along with DAC section of the data acquisition card. The three virtual resistance meters have been successfully implemented. The principle of ratio-metric measurement used makes the accuracy (uncertainty) of final measurement free from the uncertainties of the ADC, the DAC and the excitation source. Standard deviations of the readings taken with the three VRMs have been evaluated and compared. It is concluded that the fully-virtual instrument has the lowest and excellent value of standard deviation.
