The power system operation considering energy storage systems (ESS) and renewable power represents a challenge. In a 24-hour economic dispatch, the generation resources are dispatched to meet demand requirements considering network restrictions. The uncertainty and unpredictability associated with renewable resources and storage systems represents challenges for power system operation due to operational and economical restrictions. This paper develops a detailed formulation to model energy storage systems (ESS) and renewable sources for power system operation considering 24-hour period. The model is formulated and evaluated with two different power systems (i.e. 5-bus and IEEE modified 24-bus systems). Wind availability patterns and scenarios are used to assess the ESS performance under different operational circumstances. With regard to the systems proposed, there are scenarios in order to evaluate ESS performance. In one of them, the increase in capacity did not represent significant savings or performance for the system, while in the other it was quite the opposite especially during peak load periods.

The electrical output performance of photovoltaic (PV) modules are sensitive to temperature variations and the intensity of solar irradiance under prolonged exposure. Only 20% of solar irradiance is converted into useful electricity, and the remaining are dissipated as heat which in turns increases the module operating temperature. The increase in module operating temperature has an adverse impact on the open-circuit voltage (Voc), which results in the power conversion efficiency reduction and irreversible cell degradation rate. Hence, proper cooling methods are essential to maintain the module operating temperature within the standard test conditions (STC). This paper presents an overview of passive cooling methods for its feasibility and economic viability in comparison with active cooling. Three different passive cooling approaches are considered, namely phase change material (PCM), fin heat sink, and radiative cooling covering the discussions on the achieved cooling efficiency. The understanding of the above-mentioned state-of-the-art cooling technologies is vital for further modifications of existing PV modules to improve the efficiency of electrical output.

Cloud computing is an emerging distributed computing paradigm. However, it requires certain initiatives that need to be tailored for the cloud environment such as the provision of an on-the-fly mechanism for providing resource availability based on the rapidly changing demands of the customers. Although, resource allocation is an important problem and has been widely studied, there are certain criteria that need to be considered. These criteria include meeting user’s quality of service (QoS) requirements. High QoS can be guaranteed only if resources are allocated in an optimal manner. This paper proposes a latency-aware max-min algorithm (LAM) for allocation of resources in cloud infrastructures. The proposed algorithm was designed to address challenges associated with resource allocation such as variations in user demands and on-demand access to unlimited resources. It is capable of allocating resources in a cloud-based environment with the target of enhancing infrastructure-level performance and maximization of profits with the optimum allocation of resources. A priority value is also associated with each user, which is calculated by analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The results validate the superiority for LAM due to better performance in comparison to other state-of-the-art algorithms with flexibility in resource allocation for fluctuating resource demand patterns.

The on-board energy storage system plays a key role in electric vehicles since it directly affects their performance and autonomy. The lithium-ion battery offers satisfactory characteristics that make electric vehicles competitive with conventional ones. This article focuses on modeling and estimating the parameters of the lithium-ion battery cell when used in different electric vehicle drive cycles and styles. The model consists of an equivalent electrical circuit based on a second-order Thevenin model. To identify the parameters of the model, two algorithms were tested: Trust-Region-Reflective and Levenberg-Marquardt. To account for the dynamic behavior of the battery cell in an electric vehicle, this identification is based on measurement data that represents the actual use of the battery in different conditions and driving styles. Finally, the model is validated by comparing simulation results to measurements using the mean square error (MSE) as model performance criteria for the driving cycles (UDDS, LA-92, US06, neural network (NN), and HWFET). The results demonstrate interesting performance mostly for the driving cycles (UDDS and LA-92). This confirms that the model developed is the best solution to be integrated in a battery management system of an electric vehicle.

Algal blooms data are collected and refined as experimental data for algal blooms prediction. Refined algal blooms dataset is analyzed by logistic regression analysis, and statistical tests and regularization are performed to find the marine environmental factors affecting algal blooms. The predicted value of algal bloom is obtained through logistic regression analysis using marine environment factors affecting algal blooms. The actual values and the predicted values of algal blooms dataset are applied to the confusion matrix. By improving the decision boundary of the existing logistic regression, and accuracy, sensitivity and precision for algal blooms prediction are improved. In this paper, the algal blooms prediction model is established by the ensemble method using logistic regression and confusion matrix. Algal blooms prediction is improved, and this is verified through big data analysis.

This paper studies the impact of fin width of channel on temperature and electrical characteristics of fin field-effect transistor (FinFET). The simulation tool multi-gate field effect transistor (MuGFET) has been used to examine the FinFET characteristics. Transfer characteristics with various temperatures and channel fin width (WF=5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 nm) are at first simulated in this study. The results show that the increasing of environmental temperature tends to increase threshold voltage, while the subthreshold swing (SS) and drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) rise with rising working temperature. Also, the threshold voltage decreases with increasing channel fin width of transistor, while the SS and DIBL increase with increasing channel fin width of transistor, at minimum channel fin width, the SS is very near to the best and ideal then its value grows and going far from the ideal value with increasing channel fin width. So, according to these conditions, the minimum value as possible of fin width is the preferable one for FinFET with better electrical characteristics.

There is enormous amount information available in different forms of sources and genres. In order to extract useful information from a massive amount of data, automatic mechanism is required. The text summarization systems assist with content reduction keeping the important information and filtering the non-important parts of the text. Good document representation is really important in text summarization to get relevant information. Bag-of-words cannot give word similarity on syntactic and semantic relationship. Word embedding can give good document representation to capture and encode the semantic relation between words. Therefore, centroid based on word embedding representation is employed in this paper. Myanmar news summarization based on different word embedding is proposed. In this paper, Myanmar local and international news are summarized using centroid-based word embedding summarizer using the effectiveness of word representation approach, word embedding. Experiments were done on Myanmar local and international news dataset using different word embedding models and the results are compared with performance of bag-of-words summarization. Centroid summarization using word embedding performs comprehensively better than centroid summarization using bag-of-words.

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the advantages of the green phosphor YF3:Er3+,Yb3+ combined with multi-chip package to the enhancement of lighting efficiency of modern WLEDs. In an effort to improve the quality of WLEDs and create a new generation of lighting device, green phosphor YF3:Er3+,Yb3+ is added into the phosphor compounding of the WLED package to improve the color quality and lighting capacity. Through experiments, WLEDs with YF3:Er3+,Yb3+ green phosphor has shown improved results in lighting performance specifically in color homogeneity and light output of WLEDs in the ACCT range from 5600-7000 K. However, the color quality scale (CQS) declines gradually. Therefore, if the appropriate concentration and size of YF3:Er3+,Yb3+ are determined, the performance of MCW-LEDs will be enhanced and become more stable.
