Abstract

WSN has important applications such as habitat monitoring, structural health monitoring, target tracking in military and many more. This has evolved due to availability of sensors that are cheaper and intelligent but these are having battery support. So, one of the major issues in WSN is maximization of network life. Heterogeneous WSNs have the potential to improve network lifetime and also provide higher quality networking and system services than the homogeneous WSN. Routing is the main concern of energy consumption in WSN. Previous research shows that performance of the network can be improve significantly using protocol of hierarchical HWSN. However, the appropriateness of a particular routing protocol mainly depends on the capabilities of the nodes and on the application requirements. This study presents different aspects of Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor network and design issues for routing in heterogeneous environment. Different perspectives from different authors regarding energy efficiency based on resource heterogeneity for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks have been presented.

Abstract

Router Assisted Congestion Control (RACC) was designed to improve endto- end congestion control performance by using prior knowledge on network condition. However, the traditional Internet does not provide such information, which makes this approach is not feasible to deliver. Our paper addresses this network information deficiency issue by proposing a new congestion control method that works on the Software Defined Network (SDN) framework. We call this proposed method as PACEC (Path Associativity Centralized Congestion Control). In SDN, global view of the network information contains the network topology including link properties (i.e., type, capacity, power consumption, etc.). PACEC uses this information to determine the feedback signal, in order for the source to start sending data at a high rate and to quickly reach fair-share rate. The simulation shows that the efficiency and fairness of PACEC are better than Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Rate Control Protocol (RCP).

Abstract

Nowadays, image processing has become one of the widely used computer aided science. Two major branches of this scientific field are image enhancement and machine vision. Machine vision has many applications and demands in robotic and defense industries. Detecting distance of objects is one of the extensive research in the defense industry and robotic industries that a lot of annual projects have been involved in this issue both inside and outside the country. So, in this paper, an accurate algorithm is presented for measuring the distance of the objects from a camera. In this method, a laser transmitter is used alongside a regular webcam. The laser light is transmitted to the desired object and then the distance of the object is calculated using image processing methods and mathematical and geometric relations. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated using MATLAB software. The accuracy rate of distance detection is up to 99.62%. The results also has shown that the presented algorithms make the obstacle distance measurement more reliable. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm was compared with other methods from different literatures.

Abstract

Multiterminal High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission utilizing Line Commutated Converter (LCC-HVDC) technology is on the increase in interconnecting a remote generating station to any urban centre via long distance DC lines. This Multiterminal-HVDC (MTDC) system offers a reduced right of way benefits, reduction in transmission losses, as well as robust power controllability with enhanced stability margin. However, utilizing the MTDC system in an AC network bring about a new area of associated fault analysis as well as the effect on the entire AC system during a transient fault condition. This paper analyses the fault current contribution of an MTDC system during transient fault to the rotor angle of a synchronous generator. The results show a high rotor angle swing during a transient fault and the effectiveness of fast power system stabilizer connected to the generator automatic voltage regulator in damping the system oscillations. The MTDC link improved the system performance by providing an alternative path of power transfer and quick system recovery during transient fault thus increasing the rate at which the system oscillations were damped out. This shows great improvement compared to when power was being transmitted via AC lines.

Abstract

Internet of things (IoT) has described a futurevision of internetwhere users, computing system, and everyday objects possessing sensing and actuating capabilities are part of distributed applications and required to support standard internet communication with more powerful device or internet hosts. This vision necessitates the security mechanisms for end-to-end communication. A key management protocol is critical to ensuring the secure exchange of data between interconnecting entities, but due to the nature of this communication system where a high resource constrained node may be communicating with node with high energy makes the application of existing key management protocols impossible. In this paper, we propose a new lightweight key management protocol that allows the constrained node in 6loWPAN network to transmit captured data to internet host in secure channel. This protocol is based on cooperation of selected 6loWPAN routers to participate in computation of highly consuming cryptographic primitives. Our protocol is assessed with AVISPA tool, the results show that our scheme ensured security properties.

Abstract

In this paper, a branch exchange based heuristic network reconfiguration method is proposed for obtaining an optimal network in a deregulated power system. A unique bus identification scheme is employed which makes the load flow and loss calculation faster due to its reduced search time under varying network topological environment. The proposed power loss allocation technique eliminates the effect of cross-term analytically from the loss formulation without any assumptions and approximations. The effectiveness of the proposed reconfiguration and loss allocation methods are investigated by comparing the results obtained by the present approach with that of the existing “Quadratic method” using a 33-bus radial distribution system with/without DGs.

Abstract

In this paper, the adjoint networks based on Tellegen’s Theorem are used to improve the PV curve assessment. PV curve is the most widely accepted method for determining the margin of the power system state to the voltage collapse point. The repetitive power flow and continuation power flow are used to access PV curves through tracing the power flow solutions for the change of loads. Since the Minimum Jacobi matrix eigenvalue is practically close to zero at neighbor voltage collapse point, there is a restriction in order to access the voltage stability level by repetitive power flow method. This problem solved by appropriate combination of adjoint networks based on Tellegen’s Theorem and conventional equations. The proposed method was tested on SWCC test system. Abstract

Due to the dramatic growth in the use of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications ranging from environment and habitat monitoring to tracking and surveillance, network research in WSN protocols has been very active in the last decade. With battery-powered sensors operating in unattended environments, energy conservation becomes the key technique for improving WSN lifetimes. WSN Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols address energy awareness and reduced duty cycles. The focus of this study is to investigate, through simulation, the effect of variations in various factors that influence the performance results of WSNs. Using MiXiM framework with OMNeT++ simulator, this simulation study proposes modifications in Crankshaft MAC protocol in order to improve its performance. The impact of duration and number of slots, degree of connectivity among the nodes, mobility speed and mobility update interval and also, the impact of sending data packets without preambles are investigated. Based on the simulation results, an improved version of the Crankshaft protocol for WSN is suggested and a comparative study of the performances of the original and improved protocol is presented. The results clearly indicate the superiority of the improved protocol over its original version.

Abstract

Before you recognize anyone, it is essential to identify various characteristics variations from one person to another. among of this characteristics, we have those relating to the face. Nowadays the detection of skin regions in an image has become an important research topic for the location of a face in the image. In this research study, unlike previous research studies  related  to  this  topic  which  have  focused  on  images  inputs  data  faces,  we  are  more interested to the fields face detection in mixed-subject documents (text + images). The face detection system developed is based on the hybrid method to distinguish two categories of objects from the mixed document. The first category is all that is text or images containing figures having no skin color, and the second category is any figure with the same color as the skin. In the second phase the detection system is based on Template Matching method to distinguish among the figures of the second category only those that contain faces to detect them. To validate this study, the system developed is tested on the various documents which including text and image.

Abstract

Diabetes is a major concern all over the world. It is increasing at a fast pace. People can avoid diabetes at an early stage without any test. The goal of this paper is to predict the probability of whether the person has a risk of diabetes or not at an early stage. This would lead to having a great impact on their quality of human life. The datasets are Pima Indians diabetes and Cleveland coronary illness and consist of 768 records. Though there are a number of solutions available for information extraction from a huge datasets and to predict the possibility of having diabetes, but the accuracy of their mining process is far from accurate. For achieving highest accuracy, the issue of zero probability which is generally faced by naïve bayes analysis needs to be addressed suitably. The proposed framework RB-Bayes aims to extract the required information with high accuracy that could survive the problem of zero probability and also configure accuracy with other methods like Support Vector Machine, Naive Bayes, and K Nearest Neighbor. We calculated mean to handle missing data and calculated probability for yes (positive) and no (negative). The highest value between yes and no decide the value for the tuple. It is mostly used in text classification. The outcomes on Pima Indian diabetes dataset demonstrate that the proposed methodology enhances the precision as a contrast with other regulated procedures. The accuracy of the proposed methodology large dataset is 72.9%.
