Abstract

Quran is a guide book that is able to accommodate many human beings’s thought levels. By special language style, it can also be viewed from various fields like law, theology, philosophy, and tasawuf related to reviewer’s preference. Therefore, Quran, in fact, can also be a starting point for philosophical study because it gives various materials to philosophical contemplations. This paper gives illustration of how the Quran with its stories in it is able to arouse our philosophical sensitivities. By referring to six branches of philosophy i.e. logic, epistemology, cosmology, metaphysic, ethic, and esthetic, this paper tries to show that the Quran in certain aspect can be claimed by us to have philosophical side.

Abstract

Keunikan sistem semantik dalam bahasa Arab sangat menarik untuk dikaji, terutama mengenai relasionalmakna. Karena ada beberapa bagian sistem semantik Arab yang konsepnya berbeda dengan sistem semantik bahasa yang lain. Hubungan antar makna seperti yang dalam linguistik modern disebut sinonimi, polisemi, homonimi dan antonimi itu semua ditemukan dalam linguistik Arab, dan juga banyak didapati dalam bahasa al-Quran. Dengan demikian kajian-kajian semantik sebenarnya sudah lama ada dalam al-Qur’an jauh sebelum para ahli bahasa merumuskan konsep-konsep semantik modern. Dan justru sebaliknya, ada konsep relasional makna dalam bahasa Arab yang tidak didapati dalam telaah medan makna bahasa yang lain, diantaranya adalah al-ad̡dƗd. Terkait dengan posisi bahasa Arab sebagai bahasa al-Qur’an, keberadaan al-ad̡dƗd juga berpengaruh kepada penerjemahan dan penafsirannya. Eksistensi pola al-ad̡dƗd dalam al-Qur’an merupakan salah satu bukti bahwa al-Qur’an memiliki kelebihan dari segi kebahasaan (al-I’jƗz al-Lughawy).

Abstract

Ahl al-Kitab is a very popular term but it is still not clear to those who are meant by the term and it is always debated by Islamic scholars, both classical and contemporary. Is the term identical with Jews and Christian only or it also include other believers, like Zoroastrian, Shabi’in, and even Hindis or Buddhist? Discourse of the coverage of the term is certainly very interesting to discuss because it can give wide law implication in social life like marriage with them and their slaughtered animal.

Abstract

“Fundamentalism is identical with violence”, this stereotype is conserved by the West for centuries. Islamic fundamentalism is a cause of many violence, suicidal bomb, murder, war, and terrorism that is strengthened by holy war (jihad) doctrine. One of these movement foundations is verses of the Quran and Hadith about war. This paper is not meant to correct or criticize those Quranic verses or Hadith, but it is meant to criticize the interpretation those Quranic verses or Hadith. In this context, de-radicalization of that interpretation becomes very significant because it is expected that it can give solution for the strained situation happening in the center of terrorism issues that discredit Islam.

Abstract

Al-Maturidi – a prominent figure of Maturidiyah of Samarkand branch – is Abu Hanifah’s follower who uses ratio much in religious view including in theological thought. In fact, Maturidiyah of Samarkand’s thought is closer to Mu’tazilah’s one because they use ratio in the same way, but Maturidiyah of Samarkand is still grouped into Ahl al- Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah group, which is a derivation of Asy’ariyah view, even though Asy’ariyah does not use ratio much in theological thought.

Abstract

As one of Hadith books that is included in the six main Hadits books (kutub al-sittah), Sunan Tirmidzi has a different writing methodology from other main Hadith books. It can be seen from the existence of quality valuing of Hadiths written in the book that is rarely done by other writers of Hadith books. Besides, the existence of Hadith classification into three classifications, i.e. shahih, hasan and da’if that has not yet been known, make al-Tirmidzi and his Hadith book interesting to study further.
