Abstract

An experiment had been carried out to study the potential of alley cropping system for rehabilitation of eroded soil. The experiment was carried out on Vertisols at Ngrimbi, Jombang, East Java. The results showed that planting Gliricidia as an hedgerow crop in an alley cropping system improved the properties and fertility of eroded Vertisols. After 10 years of the practice, there was an increase in soil organic-C, soil N, Soil-P, and soil-K. As a result of increasing soil organic-C, there was an improvement of soil aggregation, water holding capacity, and available soil water. Improvement of soil fertility with alley cropping resulted in an increase of maize and soybean yields. The yields of maize and soybean in a non alley cropping system, on the other hand, constantly decreased with time

Abstract

Decomposition and nitrogen mineralization of prunings from five species of legume hedgerow trees (Calliandra calothyrsus, Peltophorum dasyrrachis, Leucaena leucocephala, Gliricidia sepium, and Flemingia congesta) in relation to the pruning quality and methods of pruning application were studied in a laboratory and in the field. N mineralization of the prunings was tested upon application to the soil in a laboratory under controlled leaching and non-leeching conditions over the period of 14 weeks. The absolute decomposition rates of the prunings was measured using litterbags placed randomly on the soil surface or incorporated in the soil in the field over the period of 8 weeks. The results showed that the contribution of decomposing pruning materials to the soil was not only associated with their quality and with the leaching conditions, but also with the method of application of the prunings in the field. The decomposition and N release rate constants of the prunings declined in the order of Gliricidia> Leucaena > Flemingia > Calliandra > Peltophorum for all experiments carried out. The effect of quality of N release from legume prunings was modified by leaching conditions. Where there was no leaching, the protein-binding capacity of polyphenols in the prunings can play an important role in controlling the rate of N release. Under leaching conditions, the combined (lignin + polyphenol)/N ratio became an important quality factor in affecting the N release. The amounts of N released from the prunings placed on the soil surface were much smaller than those released from the incorporated prunings

Abstract

Ice cream kidney bean was made from ekstrak kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Extract kidney bean had added value because no cholesterol, hight contain of protein and mineral, had specific flavor and hight contain of dietary fiber. Extract kidney bean low contain of fat (0,645%). When will made ice cream from extract kidney bean, its must to added on fat and emulsifier for produce good emultion. VCO is one of fat wich have functional and egg yolk contain lecitin as good nature emulsifier. The purpose of this research was to found the concentration of VCO and egg yolk for produce good quality of ice cream kidney bean. Experiment design in this research was Random Design with 2 factor, i.e.concentration VCO (6%, 8%, 10%, 12% and 14%) and egg yolk (3%, 4,5% and 6%), each combination twice experiment. The result on this research show that the best treatment was 6% concentration of VCO and 6% egg yolk. This treatment produce ice cream kidney bean with 8,1196% fat contain, 4,595% protein contain, 30,8% total soluble solid, 53,705% overrun, 1,035% stability of emultion and organoleptic teste 6,53 (very like), colour 6,4 (like), texture 6,93 (very like)

Abstract

A study that as aimed to elucidate farming and marketing efficiencies of indigenous and intensive poultry farming was carried out at Dusun Tengah District of Barito Timur Regency. One hundred fifty four farmers was grouped into two groups, i.e. ordinary farmers having traditional poultry farming and leading farmers having intensive farming. Fifteen samples were then randomly selected from each group summing 30 samples. Trader samples were determined using a non probability sampling method. Primary data was directly collected from farmer samples through interview. Data analyses covered farming feasibility that was measured using RCR (revenue cost ratio), effect of marketing cost that included costs of transportation, labour, retribution, risk and capital interest on profit of traders, marketing margin, vertical market integration and price transmission elasticity. Results of this study showed that intensive farming of indigenous poultry gave profit twice higher than that of traditional farming. However, intensive farming was more profitable than traditional farming. There were five marketing channels of indigenous poultry involving farmers and traders. The greatest margin distribution at most marketing channels was recieved by traders. Marketing costs simultaneously gave signicifant affect to profit made by traders. Price at farmer level with that of consumer level was not yet vertically integrated so that full competition of market structure has not developed

Abstract

This study was aimed to elucidate (a) marketing management of soybean seed conducted by PT Sang Hyang seri (Persero) of Malang, (b) problems encountered by PT Sang Hyang Seri in conducting marketing management of soybean seed, and (c) effect of implementation of price and distribution policies on marketing of soybean seed. The Company uses marketing mix soybean which is a combination of product, price, distribution and promotion to market soybean seed. Constraints of production aspect were due to imprecise production planning and marketing period of soybean seed. Distribution aspect faced constraints in the forms of capacities transport minimum and less paying attention of risk storey level. At price aspect produce to be burdened at price height sell resulted from by the level of production cost and also fewer funds to represent constraint at promotion aspect. Result of regression analysis indicated that price variable and distribution influenced storey level marketing of soybean seed

Abstract

Three experiments were done to study the apparent and true metabolizable energy (AMEN and TME) values of rice bran determined with broiler chicken and duck. In experiment I, 48 broiler of 6 weeks old consisting male and female broiler were divided into 8 group, 3 birds each. Each group was fed experimental feed i.e. basal, mix of basal and rice bran (50:50) and pure rice bran according to determination methods which were Farrell, Terpstra (Spelderholt Quantitative Method) and Sibbald method. Experiment II used 10 male broiler chickens of 6 week old and 1250 ± 9,6 g body weight and 10 male ducks of 8 week old and 1300 ± 11,2 g body weight. Five of them were unfed for correcting the endogenous excreta energy. The results of experiment I indicated that the metabolizable energy values of rice bran determined on three methods was significantly different. The TME values of rice bran was higher than AMEn values which determined with Farrell method and Terpstra method and the values higher if determined with Farrell method than Terpstra method. The results of experiment II indicated that the AMEn value of rice bran which determined with duck was higher then chicken but the TME values was not significantly different. The result of experiment III indicated that the TME values of rice bran were influenced by the quality. Each quality of rice bran had higher TME values if determination, species, sex and quality of the rice bran
