Abstract

This study aims to analyze the improvement of students' concept comprehension ability by applying CLIS (Children Learning In Science) learning models integrated ethnoscience. This study employed a quasi experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. The data used include pretest and posttest score. The data were analyzed using the one-sample test for the average test, proportion test (Z test) to calculate the classical completeness and N-gain calculation. The result revealed that students who fulfill the minimum standard criteria (KKM) were 30 students with the classical completeness 93.75%. The proportion completeness of concept comprehension ability passed over 75%. The improvement of concept comprehension ability was 0.4 and categorized as medium. Each indicators of concept comprehension increased sequentially that is translating 86.3%, exemplifying 91%, classifying 77.5%, summarizing 76.3%, predicting 88.8% and explaining 73.8%. The improvement of indicator concept comprehension generally in the very good category. Based on the result obtained, it can be concluded that the application of CLIS learning models integrated ethnoscience can improve students’ concept comprehension.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the level of classical completeness of student learning outcomes in the project based learning model by using recycling activities to describe the difference in concept understanding of science the experiment and control classes. The population in this study was the fifth grade students of SDN Setramanah, Subang District, Subang Regency 2018/2019 Academic Year. The type of research used in this study was a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design. The data analysis was done using the proportion test and the independent samples t-test. The results of this study showed that the completeness of concept understanding of science was more than 75%; and the ability of concept understanding in the project based learning model using recycling activities is was better than that of the project based learning model without recycling activities.
Students' Problem Solving Ability Based on the Fraction Concept Mastery in the PBL Model

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' problem solving abilities based on the mastery of the concept of fractions in the PBL model. Mixed method with sequential explanatory design was used in this research. This research was conducted in class V SD Negeri 1 Cikeduk Cirebon Regency in 2018/2019. The Data obtained by tests, interviews, and observation sheets. Qualitative learning is assessed from the planning, implementation, and assessment stages. The test results of students' problem solving abilities were analyzed quantitatively by one sample t-test and classical completeness test. Students were grouped based on their concept mastery which consists of the high concept mastery category (PKT), the medium concept mastery category (PKS), and the low concept mastery category (PKR) and two subjects from each concept mastery category were chosen to be interviewed. The results showed that; (1) students' problem solving skills achieve mastery in the PBL model; (2) Increased students' concept mastery ability; (3) Students' problem solving skills in students with high concept mastery are able to master the problem solving steps of Polya-Schoenfeld theory. (4) Students' problem solving skills in students whose mastery is able to master three indicators of problem solving from four indicators; and (5) students' problem solving skills in students with low concept mastery only mastered two indicators, and the results of the final answers were not right. It can be concluded that there is an improvement of student learning outcomes in solving problems based on concepts mastery in the PBL model.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the paired storytelling technique assisted with wayang kancil to enhance democratic attitude of elementary students. The research method used is the sequential explanatory mixed-method design. The sample in this study is the fifth A and B-grade students of Public Elementary School Petompon 01 Semarang. Quantitative data were analyzed using a t-test and N-gain test based on the value of students’ democratic learning on theme Our Environment. Qualitative data were analyzed through the descriptive content of democratic concepts based on the wayang kancil storytelling ‘Demokrasi Rimbaraya’ (Democracy in the Forest). The study result shows that there were average differences of students’ democratic learning in the experimental group from the control group. The improvement of the student democratic learning in experimental group was bigger than the control group. Based on the analysis result of the story of wayang kancil there were five emerging themes: (1) mutual acceptance, (2) living together in differences, (3) respect for others, (4) responsibility, and (5) being fair. Encountering with these democratic elements through wayang kancil as medium of instruction promotes students’ understanding of democracy.

Abstract

Science literacy is one of the problems of education in Indonesia that needs attention to be resolved immediately. The ability of science literacy in Indonesia is still low, which is evidenced by the International agency Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) through the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) to Children aged 15 years. This study aimed to (1) determine the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) aided by Performance Assessment of students 'scientific literacy abilities and , (2) to describe the students' scientific literacy abilities reviewed by Adversity Quotient (AQ). This research used a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample of this study ware students IV A (experimental group) and class IV B (control group) in SDN 1 Purwawinangun Cirebon. In this study data were taken using test instruments and questionners. Data analysis used were the normality test, the homogeneity test, and the average similarity test. Obtained data indicate that the class taken as samples in this study were normally distributed and have homogeneous variances. It means that the sample comes from the same condition that was having the same knowledge. N-gain test showed that the experimental group was 0.31 score as the medium category and the control group was 0.29 score as the low category. The finding showed that PBL model aided by performance assessment was effective for increasing students' scientific literacy ability were which indicated by student’s with PBL learning aided by performance assessment was by achieving complete scientific literacy on PBL aided by performance assessment better than students on PBL. The pattern of science literacy ability reviewed by AQ; a) climber students type were able to master both of the aspects applying and designing problem strategies. b) camper type students were mastered both of the aspect reasoning and able analyzed that given problems. c) quitter type students have ably mastered only the knowing aspect.

Abstract

The 2013 curriculum and the implementation of HOTS are urgently needed to create future generations, not only characterized, productive, creative, and innovative but also who understand the national identity and create children who are superior and able to compete in the international world. The scientific approach can be a tool that teachers use to be able to carry out learning that can lead to high-level thinking learning for kindergarten, this is also contained in the 2013 curriculum. This study aims to analyze the high order thinking of kindergarten in the core orchid cluster school in Candisari District, Semarang. The research is a qualitative research. Which concern in the learning process carried out in class by the teacher to the child both from the strategies used and the communication that the teacher did while in the learning process. The result from the study is that Taman Belia Candi as the core school of Anggrek cluster has already used high-order thinking learning. This can be seen from the lesson plans used and also the learning process carried out. The conclusion that can be drawn from this research is that the high-level learning process for early-aged children has been carried out in the Anggrek cluster core school, Candisari District, Semarang, this can be seen from the scientific approach use in the learning process in the classroom.
The Development of Performance Assessment Instrument Integrated 4C for Measuring Science Process Skills in the Science Experiments of Elementary School Students

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop the assessment instrument of performance integrated 4C to measure the science process skills in the experimental activities at elementary schools. This research applied the Research and Development method. The development design was adjusted with the ADDIE model. The subjects of the research were grade V teachers and students in the second semester of 2018/2019 academic year at SDN Karangmlati 1 Demak. Based on the results of this research, it was obtained that the assessment instrument of performance integrated 4C has a validity of 93.12%, meanwhile, the validity of the process skills test instrument reached to 91.87%. The reliability of the assessment instrument of performance reached to 0.95, whereas, the reliability of the science process skills test instrument reached to 0.88. The practicality of the instrument reached to 86.4%. The highest percentage of science process skills of the students grade V in the aspect of planning the experiment skills reached a percentage of 93% (very high). This research is expected to help teachers carry out assessments of performance objectively and fairly that have a positive impact on the quality of learning at schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of Project Based Learning in the ability of science literacy and student learning outcomes in science teaching. The research method used is quantitative in the form of an experimental quasy design with an unequal control group design. The sample in this study were fifth grade students at SDN Jambu 4 and fifth grade students at SDN 3 Sobrong. The sampling of this research used the purpose random sampling technique. Quantitative data were analyzed by t-test and gain test based on the value of scientific literacy abilities and student learning outcomes. The results showed that the average difference in students' scientific literacy skills in classes that apply the Project Based Learning model is better than classes that apply expository model (tvalue= 3.559 > ttable= 2.479); the average difference in student learning outcomes in classes that apply the Project Based Learning model is better than classes that apply the expository model (tvalue= 3.848 > ttable= 2.479); the results of increasing students' scientific literacy skills in classes that apply the Project Based Learning model are better than classes that apply expository model; the results of improved student learning outcomes in classes that apply the Project Based Learning model are better than classes that apply the expository model. The Project Based Learning model is very effective in improving the ability of scientific literacy and student learning outcomes.
Implementation of Predict Observe Explain Model and Outdoor Guided Inquiry in Improving Students' Critical Thinking in Science Learning

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Predict Observe Explain (POE) learning models for increasing critical thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students, analyze the Implementation of Outdoor Guided Inquiry learning models in increasing critical thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students, comparing the effectiveness of POE learning model and Outdoor Guided Inquiry in the critical thinking ability of fifth grade elementary school students. This research used a quasi-experiment with pre-test and post-test control group design. The population and sample taken in this study were all fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Sambong (eksperimen group) and SD Negeri 3 Sambong (control group), totaling 42 students. The experimental group was intervened by Outdoor Guided Inquiry while the control group by Predict Observe Explain. In this study data were taken using test instrument and questionners. Data analysis techniques used in this study were independent samples t-test, and classical completeness test and N-gain test. N-gain calculation results show that the average in the OGI class is 0.61, and the POE class is 0.38, which means that the Outdoor Guided Inquiry model is better in improving students' critical thinking abilitis compared to the Predict Observe Explain model. Based on the t-test calculation of OGY and POE classes, ttable = 2.021 and tvalue = 4.265, so tvalue > ttable shows that the OGI learning model is significantly better than the POE model.
Effectiveness of Project Based Learning and Guided Inquiry to Improve Learning Achievement and Entrepreneurship in Blora, Indonesia

Abstract

Current education does not always deal with remembering and memorizing but it should be creative and innovative. This research aimed to compare the effectiveness between Project Based Learning (PjBL) and Guided Inquiry (GI) in improving learning achievement and entrepreneurship of fifth graders at primary school. This quantitative research used quasi experimental design. The experimental group was intervened by Project Based Learning while the control group by Guided Inquiry. The population of this research consisted of Gatot Subroto primary school cluster, Blora Municipal. The sample consisted of SDN 1 Kalen and SDN 2 Nglandeyan. From both schools, all fifth graders were taken by using saturated sampling. The techniques of collecting idea were test, questionnaire, observation, interview, and documentation. The hypothesis test used N-Gain and Independent Sample Test analysis. The findings showed that there were differences by using PjBL and GI in improving learning achievement with score of tvalue = 0.980 with sig score 0.000. In improving entrepreneurship, the tvalue = 0.397 with sig score 0.000. Thus, it could be concluded that Project Based Learning was more effective to improve learning achievement and entrepreneurship of the students than Guided Inquiry. It is suggested for the educators to be more creative in using appropriate learning model to the characteristics of the students and school should facilitate teacher to be more innovative.
