Abstract

Multilevel converters have a significant role in power processing control in the power system, which has some inherent features like reduced harmonics, high power & medium voltage, reduced voltage stress. In this proposed paper, a novel multilevel inverter with reduced number of switches and without passive components. The proposed inverter generates 15 level output voltage with suitable switching pulse generation using multicarrier sinusoidal pulse width modulation (MSPWM) and different level of voltages are obtained with variation of modulation index. Also coupled inductor is used to minimize the harmonic content and smoothing output current. The scheme which includes different range of unequal voltage sources. As a result, the proposed system it reduces switching control complexity and there is no voltage balancing problem. This paper elucidates the operating modes, voltage stress minimisation and harmonic reduction are discussed. The results of the proposed multilevel dc-ac converter are verified using matlab/simulink. The simulation & hardware results of the proposed inverter were verified using matlab simulink and dsPIC controller respectively, which was analysed with different voltage level and different modulation index.

Abstract

The power system enters a state of voltage instability due to the inability of the power system to meet the demand for active power and reactive power due to the increase of system load. In order to stabilize the power system, the installation of STATCOM and ESS needs to be performed. The main objective of this study is to identify the suitable size and location of STATCOM and ESS for power system stability improvement. First, the IEEE 14 bus system was simulated using DIgSILENT software in ideal condition. Then, the system loadability was increased up to 200% of initial value to locate the weakest bus. This study includes the applicable location and sizing of STATCOM and ESS towards improving power system stability. The results showed that the application of STATCOM and ESS with the most reliable size can increase the bus voltage (p.u and kV) of IEEE 14 bus system thus improving the power system stability. For recommendation, the power system stability can be improved by installing multiple STATCOM and ESS at other load buses and applying a controller to both STATCOM and ESS to improve the effectiveness of generating and absorbency of active and reactive power in the power system.

Abstract

This work presents a fast response and stable computer based a brushed DC motor speed controller.  The controller configured of gate drive circuits for H-Bridge accompanied with data acquisition unit DAQ-6211. These gate drive circuits include, phase comparator, current booster and wave forms cleaning circuits.  An optical encoder is used for motor speed to frequency conversion. The CD4046 PLL chip compares phases of the encoder output frequency (motor speed) with a reference frequency (desired speed). The obtained phase difference (error) is used to allocate the suitable PWM duty cycles.  An H-Bridge BJT switches driven by PWM is interfaced with the motor. The system hardware is provided with a simple and accurate data acquisition unit DAQ-6211 to be interfaced with the LabVIEW software Package. This allows monitoring and storing the different measured data of this platform. The system relative stability is determined and examined based on the Bode plot analysis and design. Then the relative stability criterion (Phase Margin) is measured the closed-loop stability of the system. This system considers the fast feedback response with indication of its stability state as well as the stable wide dynamic range. It compensates the changes in system parameters due to the environmental effects and other disturbances.

Abstract

The topology of SEPIC "Single-ended primary inductance converter" is considered as a suitable option for automotive power system where the value of the output voltage should be ranging between the low and high values of the input value of voltage. The main feature of the DC-DC converter is the stability of output voltage. This paper shows the SEPIC converter employing PID converter to be used in industrial applications. A SEPIC DC-DC converter can manage either step-down mode or step-up mode. The benefit of using this circuit is to supply a stable and controlled output voltage no matter how much the input voltage is. The simulated behaviors of the uncontrolled and controlled SEPIC converter are presented in this paper. The PID controller based on bat algorithm (BA) optimization method is used for searching of the best Proportional–Integral-Derivative (PID) gains. The solution has given very good performance and whatever the output reference voltage variation and load disturbance of the system.

Abstract

In this paper, an optimization of PV grid connected system is investigated. This is achieved by considering the application of artificial intelligence in the DC side to realize maximal power extraction, and using a sine-band hysteresis control in the AC side of the system, to generate a sine current/voltage suitable for grid connection IEEE929-2000 standards. The overall system has been simulated taking into account environmental effects and standards constraints in order to achieve best performance. The choice of sine band hysteresis control was selected considering its implementation simplicity. The algorithm runs fast on a low-cost microcontroller allowing to avoid any delay that can cause a phase shift in the system.  An experimental setup has been realized for tests and validation purposes. Both simulation and experimental results lead to satisfactory results which are conform to the IEEE929-2000 standards.

Abstract

This paper presents the modeling and simulation of wind energy Conversion System using the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). The objectives are: to extract the maximum power of the wind speed by controlling the electromagnetic torque of the PMSG, to maintain constant the DC-link voltage despite the wind speed variations and to attain the unity power factor. In order to ensure a regulation with high performance and a good robustness against the internal and the external disturbances, a new control strategy called the Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) is used. Therefore, the Analysis and simulation of the ADRC and PI controllers are developed with MATLAB/Simulink software. The performance of these controllers is compared in term of references tracking, robustness and grid faults.

Abstract

The cable transmission is widely used in the remote operation or complex geometry with high stiffness and low backlash. Larger drum is required to reduce and error of transmission in long stroke. An error of the desired position occurs due to the fleet angle while cable winding on a drum. Therefore, a new cable driving module which overcomes this problem is proposed. A new cable driving module with a sliding platform is connected to the actuator unit. A motion of the sliding platform is corresponding to a screw rod connected to an actuator. The precision of the driving system is measured by a high-resolution rotatory encoder and high gear ratio actuator. Results are measured by load and error of the system. A load of system shows a performance of overall translation and rotation of the drum at different speeds. An error of the system is measured from forward and reverse direction by increasing and decreasing the number of turns with constant speed. A system has an average load consumption along a long stroke of cable winding which has no significant problem on the screw platform. Multiple turns have low error value in specific and continuous turn in forward and reverse motion. A new cable driving system is proved in precision movement. The fleet angle is eliminated in new mechanism. Along with a constraint motion, there is no significant change in load consumption. An error is low value in a different direction of movement. Hence, a new design of cable transmission can perform in high performance and small size of the system.

Abstract

In this study, we perform the control of the temperature evolution versus time of induction cooking system using a super twisting sliding mode control (STSMC) based on Dynamic Particle Swarm Optimization (D-PSO). First, we will determine the evolution of the temperature in the middle of the pan bottom using the FEM method. The found temperature exceeds the limit of the desired cooking temperature (150-200°C). Second, to limit temperature increase, a (ST-SMC) method combined with a (D-PSO) algorithm is used to get the desired temperature. Particles Swarm Optimization (D-PSO) method is used to optimize the parameters of the gain of (ST-SMC) and improve its performance. The simulation results show that the use of the optimized super twisting sliding mode controller helps to achieve a desired value of cooking.

Abstract

This article presents a simulation model comparison between a diode and two diodes of a photovoltaic cell. The simulation model created under the Matlab-Simulink environment predicts annual performances of the three photovoltaic field technologies connected to the grid. The simulation models have been validated by the experimental data of the photovoltaic system in the meteorological conditions of the city of Meknes. The interest is to inspect the closest model that allows to obtain more reliable results in order to follow the performances and the operation of the installation in the coming years, Also to compare between the efficiency of the three photovoltaic technologies (monocrystalline, polycrystalline and amorphous) in the same climatic conditions of Meknes city in Morocco which is a  Mediterranean climate with very cold winters and very hot summer.
