When designing a power generation project from a different source, and in our case study, wind, when calculating the annual energy produced, it is necessary to define and calculate the losses incurred in the system. The main cause of losses in a wind park is due to the oscillations caused by the turbulence of the air around the turbine because of roughness of terrain. The paper describes two methods of estimating turbulence intensity: one based on the mean and standard deviation (SD) of wind speed from the nacelle anemometer, the other from mean power output and its SD. These analyses are very important for understanding the fatigue and mechanical stress on the wind turbines. Then significance of the site ruggedness index (RIX) and the associated performance indicator (ΔRIX) are confirmed for terrain and the consequences of applying WAsP outside its operating envelope are quantified.

Voltage stability is necessary in order to maintain the health of the grid system. In recent years, the load demand is increasing from time-to-time which compromised the stability of the system. On that purpose, several methods on enhancing the voltage stability of the system was introduced such as the transformer tap and FACTS devices. In a general overview, this study is to propose a several power compensation techniques on the base case of an IEEE-33 bus whereby power flow analysis using Netwon- Raphson in PSS/E software is performed. Afterwards, distributed generation (DG) and Static VAR Compensator (SVC) will be implemented within the distribution network to compensate the voltage instability losses based on the weakest index from the bus system. From both the cases which is proposed earlier, a comparison study is conducted on the performance on both DG and SVC within the proposed network.

This paper presents the Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) to improve the power quality of power electronic converters. The development of HCC was implemented using Active Power Filter (APF) function based on rectifier boost technique to control the range of upper and lower bands. Through this technique, the supply current waveform followed the shape of the sinusoidal reference signal, thus, the distorted input current waveform becomes sinusoidal and in the same phase with the input voltage. As a result, the THD level and switching losses can be reduced, thus improving the power factor of the power supply system. In order to verify the proposed operation, validation of the proposed HCC was done through MATLAB. Selected simulation results are presented.

In this work, we study H∞ control wind turbine fuzzy model for finite frequency(FF) interval. Less conservative results are obtained by using Finsler’s lemma technique, generalized Kalman Yakubovich Popov (gKYP), linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach and added several separate parameters, these conditions are given in terms of LMI which can be efficiently solved numerically for the problem that such fuzzy systems are admissible with H∞ disturbance attenuation level. The FF H∞ performance approach allows the state feedback command in a specific interval, the simulation example is given to validate our results.

This paper proposes a Levy flight global maximum power point tracking for solar photovoltaic (PV) system under partial shading conditions. The proposed method comes with merits such as simplicity, fast response and free of oscillation. This algorithm uses random search over the exploration space and compares the previous and current states to obtain the best solution. For evaluation and comparative analysis, performance of the proposed method is also measured against Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). All three algorithms are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Simulation results are satisfactory over the conducted tests under uniform and non-uniform irradiance. The proposed algorithm is able to track global maximum power point (GMPP) under partial shading conditions with fast tracking time and zero ripple at steady-state.

The purpose for preparing this paper is to innovate a new method to detection and diagnosis the three-phase induction motor electrical failures, especially the failures that occur in Stator winding. Stator winding breakdown largely contributes to induction motor failures. To understand internal fault in induction motors winding, four cases studies of different three-phase induction motors (TPIM) were analysed according to two conditions: normal winding condition and windings shorted between two phases. In this paper, the measurement of frequency response analysis (FRA) on the stator winding with inter-phase short is presented. Additionally, Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) interpretation technique classify and quantify the fault is also proposed. For interpretation of the FRA, a statistical indicator, which is NCEPRI algorithm is used for comparison the measured responses.

Study and analysis the effect of variable applied voltage on SCIM performances based on FEA is presented. Three phase squirrel cage induction motor SCIM has been investigated and numerically simulated using finite element method (FEM) with the aid of ANSYS software (RMxprt and Maxwell 2D/3D). This research presents study and analysis of the effects of the voltage variation on performance and efficiency of the three-phase induction motor of the squirrel cage type. The Finite Elements Analysis Method FEA is used as one of the best methods for analysis and simulation of electrical motors in addition to the possibility of dealing with nonlinear equations, Since the induction motor is a complex electromagnetic reaction, the researchers used the ANSYS program to represent and analyze the performance of the motor under variable supply voltage. The case studied in this research is three phases, 380V, 50Hz, 2.2kW, induction motor that widely use in industrial application. The aim of this research is to study the effect of voltage variation on efficiency, current value, power factor and torque of SCIM. The RMxprt software has been used for modeling and simulating the induction motor and calculating the values of phases currents, input and output power in additional of overall efficiency at steady state condition. The next stage of the research is creating Maxwell 2-D design from the base model of RMxprt software, Maxwell 2-D model has the ability to computing the distribution of magnetic field and explaining the performance under steady-state operation. The obtained results show significant reduction of motor performance due to the effect of variation of apply voltage.

Multilevel inverter (MLI) becomes more significant in Active Power Filter (APF) application due to capability to its produce low harmonic output current in which at the same time improving performance of APF. Among the topologies of MLI, Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) is the most popular topology with less power devices requirement and simple design. MLI CHB is also capable to produce possible output voltage at twice of the number of DC source which in this case of APF is the best suited topology to replace with the conventional six -step inverter. This paper presents the performance of three- phase three-wire CHB MLI used in Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) based on Direct Current Control (DCC) and Indirect Current Control (ICC) schemes. Both schemes are developed and verified in MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show that both current control algorithms are capable to mitigate load current with Total Harmonic Distortion below than the permissible value based on IEEE 519 standard.

Nowadays, the rotating motor is the most demoralized machine for the global Motor industry. Comfort of practice, start-up, small, weightiness, Increased efficiency, low maintenance and inexpensive for each power rating that generally meets the necessary features for industries. Efficient improvements are inspected with copper for the rotor bars slot. Usually, the copper loss in the induction motor Rotor division contributes to the loss of energy. The research work was planned a new rotor design, by improved rotor bars type slot, size and design. These tasks were inspected using two approaches, in particular, MotorSolve (IM) and calculations in theory. One set of simulation has shown a significant increase in energy efficiency for a new rotor frame design. Calculations in theory are used MATLAB. As a result, these new designs have improved energy efficiency by 77% as compared to its 74% existing design. The results proved to be using MATLAB. For energy, cost savings and emission reduction (ER), new design rotor frame has been saved 154KWH/year, utility bill RM 60.20/Year and 0.113 CO2 tons/years intended for individually motor. Finally, the estimated cost aimed at 100,000 pieces of new rotor bars pattern induction motor and indicates this price was kept almost RM6 million.

This paper presented single DC bus single phase seven level cascaded H-bridge (CHB) inverter for multi-panel photovoltaic grid-connected applications. A single DC bus supplying flyback converters to produce DC link voltages for CHB cells is suggested. A balanced operation of CHB inverter cells is obtained irrespective to power unbalance occurred by individual maximum power point tracking boost converter of photovoltaic (PV) panels due to the non-uniform irradiation and partial shading. A DC bus voltage control system with addition of estimated DC bus ripple voltage to the reference is proposed to eliminate the second order harmonic contained in the feedback voltage of DC bus enabling to design high bandwidth of DC voltage control loop. This produces fast dynamic response, low total harmonic distortion (THD) of grid current and smaller DC bus capacitance. Mathematical modeling of bus voltage control system is presented. PSIM simulation program is used and the simulation results are obtained to validate the proposed control system.
