Now a days there is a widespread use of semiconductor devices, which are mostly implemented as the power switches for converters and inverters. These converters and inverters play a vital role in power systems both in transmission and distribution systems. This provides a way for the introduction of harmonics in the power system which leads to poor power quality. To overcome this many solutions have been suggested by the research community but each solution holds its own merits and demerits. Of all these suggested solutions, the Dynamic Voltage Restorer is one of the most cost effective systems for various power quality issues. In this paper the DVR is considered for enhancing the power quality by reducing the harmonics generated because of sensitive loads. Here the power quality is enhanced by controlling the DVR using Neural Network Controller which is trained by Levenberg Marquardt algorithm. In this paper the THD analysis of the voltage quantity is analysed by introducing an unbalanced three phase fault in the system. The simulation is done by using MATLAB/Simulink. From the results, it is verified that the harmonics are reduced by the NN controlled DVR unit. Also the simulation results are verified with the hardware results.

The objective of this paper is to study the dynamic response of the wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). The DFIG rotor is connected to the grid via a converter. The active and reactive power control is realized by the DFIG rotor variables control, using the field oriented control (FOC). The vector control of DFIG is applied by the use of tow regulators PI and the neural network regulator (NN). The generator mathematical model is implemented in Matlab/ Simulink software to simulate a DFIG of 1.5 MW in order to show the efficiency of the performances and robustness of the studied control systems. The simulation obtained results shows that the robustness and response time of the neural network regulator is better than those obtained by the PI classical regulator.

As the rapid development of photovoltaic (PV) technology in recent years with the growth of electricity demand, integration of photovoltaic distributed generation (PVDG) to the distribution system is emerging to fulfil the demand. There are benefits and drawbacks to the distribution system due to the penetration of PVDG. This paper discussed and investigated the impacts of PVDG location and size on distribution power systems. The medium voltage distribution network is connected to the grid with the load being supplied by PVDG. Load flow and short circuit calculation are analyzed by using DigSILENT Power Factory Software. Comparisons have been made between the typical distribution system and the distribution system with the penetration of PVDG. Impacts in which PVDG location and size integrates with distribution system are investigated with the results given from the load flow and short circuit analysis. The results indicate positive impacts on the system interconnected with PVDG such as improving voltage profile, reducing power losses, releasing transmission and distribution grid capacity. It also shows that optimal locations and sizes of DGs are needed to minimize the system’s power losses. On the other hand, it shows that PVDG interconnection to the system can cause reverse power flow at improper DG size and location and increases short circuit level.

This paper represents a hybrid energy system (HES) consisting of photovoltaic (PV), Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC), electrolyzer system and a storage tank. In this proposed system a fuel cell controller is used where a PID controller is utilized to control the flow of hydrogen (H2) through the valve to the SOFC to fulfill the load requirement. In this model a supervisory controller is used to regulate the whole system according to load requirement. So, when PV power is more than load requirement, then PV power fulfill the required load demand as well as the extra power of PV is utilized to generate the hydrogen (H2) by the help of electrolyzer, further this hydrogen is used as a fuel of SOFC. Also in this proposed model different types of faults are considered and verified their effect on the load as well as in distribution network. The computer simulations are done for the purpose technology and verified its effectiveness. Hence the appropriate results are obtained.

An inclination towards renewable energy resources has been increased due to the requirement of clean environment and to satisfy the increasing power demand for the long run. A grid connected system requires the availability of a transformer in its power conversion stages that provides galvanic isolation between the grid and the power system. But inclusion of transformer results in making the system bulky and more expensive. In this paper different transformer-less PV inverter topologies are analyzed by comparing their efficiency, leakage current and THD of load current using MATLAB/Simulink environment. In order to achieve maximum power, maximum power point tracking (P&O algorithm) is used. From the simulation results, modified HB-ZVR is found to have minimum leakage current and constant common mode voltage with higher efficiency. Also, the hardware results are obtained for modified HB-ZVR topology.

The aim of this paper is illustrating and exposing the performance of a Series Active Power Filter (SAPF) with PI controller and Fuzzy controller within simulation and experimental validations. This performance is best manifested in compensating the sags and the swells voltages and in eliminating the harmonic voltage and regulate the terminal voltage of the load by injecting a voltage component in series with source voltage which is increased or decreased from the source voltage, hence, maintaining the load side waveforms as pure sinusoidal. The control method used in this work is not so complex and it is based on a phase locked loop (PLL) that is used to control the active filter. It is valid only in the phase system. The efficiency of the method I suggested is affirmed through simulation results by MATLAB\Simulink® and some prototypes experiments. These results shows the capability of the proposed prototypes

Most of generators utilized in wind turbines are the Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). Indirect matrix converter (IMC) is a candidate for substituting the traditional back-to-back converter in the future due to advantages gained by elimination of electrolytic capacitor. Starting DFIG wind turbines and synchronizing to the grid is a challenge in practice because of large inrush currents that could damage switches. Synchronizing the DFIG wind turbine controlled by the IMC is presented in this paper. Also, maximum power point tracking algorithm performance of this configuration is examined. A laboratory scale prototype of the proposed configuration is built. Experimental results have confirmed effectiveness of this configuration.

Quadrotor by nature is a very unstable system and flying it without any feedback control algorithm is deemed impossible. However, before designing the control system, system identification need to be conducted as the accuracy of the control system depends highly on the accuracy of the model. Therefore, this paper explained the design of the quadrotor model with an “X” configuration using the Euler-Newton model. Two types of test rig were designed to measure the thrust coefficient, torque coefficient and throttle command relation parameter needed in the model. Other parameter such as moment of inertia was also being measured by separating the quad rotor model into several sections: Motors, Electronics Speed Controllers (ESC) and Central Hub. All parameters needed in the designed quad rotor model has been successfully identified by measuring the parameters using the custom-built quad rotor and test rigs. The parameters found in this paper will be used in designing the control system for the quadrotor.

Limitations of DC injection into the AC network is an important operational requirement for grid connected photovoltaic systems. There is one way to ensure that this issue needs a power transformer as a connection to the AC network. However, this solution adds cost, volume, mass, and power losses. Ideally there shouldn't be any DC at the output of the inverter, but practically, a small amount of DC current is present. Therefore, in this paper there are techniques for the DC offset elimination are proposed. Some have drawbacks which was treated by another technique. Also there are best solutions for eliminating DC offset as in section 17, and 18 as it explains how to reduce the DC offset in a transformerless operation with reducing the power losses, mass and the cost effect.

This paper analyzes the effects of the bilateral control parameters variation on the stability, the transparency and the accuracy, and on the operational force that is applied to DC motor and the master system. The bilateral controller is designed for rehabilitation process. PD controller is used to control the position tracking and a force gain controller is used to control the motor torque. DOB eliminate the internal disturbance and RTOB to estimate the joint torque without using sensors. The system consists of two manipulators, each manipulator has 1dof, master and slave teleoperation system, 4 control-architecture channel, DOB and reaction force observer. The master system is attached to human oberator. The slave system is attached to external load. The aim in this paper is to design the controller so that it requires less force to move the master manipulator and at the same time achieve high performance in position tracking.
