Recently, permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) having the diameter of 11inches was successfully developed and installed in electric scooter vehicle (ESV) for propulsion. It consists of segmented stators of 24 armature slots and 100 pieces of permanent magnet of 2 kg weight mounted on rotating rotor. Upon the huge amount of materials and permanent magnet used, PMSM produced 110Nm only. Looking at the size, this torque is low and could not sustain acceleration for long distance travels. To overcome the challenge of low torque, this paper presents a new machine type, flux switching motor (FSM) with 1 kg weight of permanent magnet flux source employing segmented outer rotor. Six ranges of split ratio of 0.80-0.85 for outer rotor 24slot-14pole FSPM motor configurations were designed and compared. The 2D-FEA by JMAG software version 14 is used to examine its performance in term of flux linkage, cogging torque, back-emf and average torque which the structure with split ratio of 0.85 took lead by securing highest torque profile of 209Nm. It also achieved low cogging torque to operate in safe region. In conclusion, appropriate split ratio significantly enhances high torque capability of permanent magnet flux switching motor for electric scooter propulsion.

In this article, we present the construction of observers of rotor flux and mechanical speed needed for robust control of the induction machine. Two observers will be developed for comparison. The first is based on the techniques MRAS and the second is observer of KUBOTA, with the enhanced DTC-ANN (by artificial intelligence), "sensorless DTC-ANN". The validity of the proposed methods is confirmed by the simulation results. Through this comparative study we examine each observer in terms of characteristics that distinguish him from the other through these estimated value and error of estimation (flux and the speed of rotation) on the one hand, and on the other hand we study a property of great importance in the control and the response and robustness of the observer for very low speeds. In my work I concentrate this on the observer of KUBOTA because I noticed that during my research in the previous research and research there is very little and no detail even in terms of mathematical model in addition to the form of comparative study between him and the observer of MRAS in terms of the principle of control, accuracy, sensitivity and special response to low speeds and error In observation. The THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of stator current, torque ripple and stator flux ripple are determined and compared with conventional DTC control scheme using Matlab/Simulink environment.

In recent times, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) have gained numerous industrial applications, because of simple structure, high efficiency and ease of maintenance. But these motors have a nonlinear mathematical model. To resolve this problem several studies have suggested the application of vector control (VC) and direct torque control (DTC) with soft-computing (SC) techniques. This paper presents neuro direct torque control (NDTC) of PMSM. Hence this paper aims to present a technique to control speed and torque with reduced ripple compared to previous techniques. The outputs of Artificial Neural Network(ANN) controller mechanism is compared with that of classical DTC and the results demonstrate the influence of ANN is improved compared to classical DTC topology. The system is also verified and proved to be operated stably with reduced torque ripple, very low speed, sudden speed reversals, at low torque and at high torque. The proposed method validity and effectiveness has been verified by computer simulations using Matlab/Simulink®. These results are compared with the ones obtained with a classical DTC using PI speed controller.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v3i3.4023

STATCOM is one of the shunt type FACTS controllers which can supply reactive power and improve bus voltage. STATCOM, a controlling device used on alternating current transmission networks, has advantages like transient free switching and smooth variation of reactive power. This paper proposes a cascaded multilevel inverter type DSTATCOM and DVR to compensate voltage sag in utilities in power distribution network. The proposed DSTATCOM is implemented using multilevel topology with isolated dc energy storage and reduced number of switches. A DVR injects a voltage in series with the system voltage and a D-STATCOM implant a current into the system to correct the voltage sag, swell and interruption. The phase shifter PWM technique is described to generate firing pulse to cascaded inverter. The proposed neuro-fuzzy controller follow itself to the sag and provides effective means of mitigation. The voltage sag with the minimum harmonic at the efficacy end. The proposed technique is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink.

The use of solar energy had gained a great attention last decades, as it is pollution-free. It is used in isolated areas for lighting, pumping, etc. However, the extraction of the maximum power generated by a PVG at any moment of the day is a big deal because the characteristic of a PVG in non-linear which makes the location of the Maximum Power Point (MPP) difficult. Therefore, a Maximum Power Point Tracking technique (MPPT) is required to maximize the output power. In this paper, a photovoltaic water pumping system has been studied. This system consists of three main parts: PVG, a DC-DC boost converter and a DC motor coupled with a centrifugal water pump. We have proposed a new MPPT algorithm based on Fuzzy logic and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to improve the system performances. The ANN is used to predict the optimal voltage of the PVG, under different environmental conditions (temperature and solar irradiance) and the fuzzy controller is used to command the DC-DC boost converter. The proposed method is compared to P&O technic, by simulation under Matlab/Simulink, to verify its effectiveness.

This paper investigates an approach to reduce the injection of unwanted harmonics from the input side power source. The proposed work finds an application of a suitably designed Low Pass Filter (LPF) for harmonics reduction. The Low Pass Filter is incorporated in between the input power source and high frequency current source fed single switch parallel quasi-resonant inverter of a domestic Induction Heater. The inverter has an Insulated Gate Bipolar Junction Transistor (IGBT) switch. Undesirable harmonics injection to the input power source makes voltage and current waveforms non-sinusoidal. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis has been applied to study the effect of harmonics in frequency domain. The entire system is realized in Power System Simulator (PSIM) environment. It is finally proved that the proposed filter reduces the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and the Distortion Factor (DF) of the input current. It is also proved that the proposed Low Pass Filter can make the input power factor closer to unity.

This paper presented with problems related with voltage flicker in power system networks. Several international standard issued to control the voltage flicker are briefly described and some important methods to analyse electrical circuits with sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal waveforms are introduced and evaluated. One of these methods – Cockcroft Walton Voltage Multiplier (CWVM) has been used to increase the voltage of a filter, which is also described in this paper as a practical application. The filter can compensate for harmonic currents, power factor, and unbalance voltage. The simulation results using Multisim are presented, showing that good dynamic and steady-state response can be achieved with this approach.

Wind energy has many advantages, it does not pollute and it is an inexhaustible source. However, the cost of this energy is still too high to compete with traditional fossil sources. The yield of a wind turbine depends on three parameters: the power of the wind, the turbine power curve and the ability of the generator to respond to fluctuations in the wind. This article presented the MPPT of a wind turbine system equipped with an asynchronous generator has dual power under MatlabSimulink program, in the first time we simulated all the conversion chain with complete model of DFIG and vector control in second stepthen applied the extracted maximum power MPPT strategists, this command is effective and has several advantages it offered to kept the maximum power delivered to network despite all the parameter is change.

A novel power converter that can perform both voltage and frequency conversion was proposed. Inappropriate power supply can damage sensitive sub-components and render the connected device inoperable. Henceforth, the proposed voltage–frequency converter acts as an interface to plug any electrical device directly into an electrical socket and provide the voltage and frequency required. The converter used a synchronous reference frame proportional–integral (SRFPI) controller to regulate the instantaneous output voltage and to improve steady state performance. Because the PI controller works together with the synchronous reference frame controller, it is difficult to tune the PI control parameters. To overcome this issue, a new meta heuristic optimization technique called lightening search algorithm (LSA) optimization was used to identify the optimum PI parameter values. A detailed description of the system operation and control strategy was presented. Finally, the performance of the converter was analyzed and verified by simulation and experimental results. The experimental result has shown that the proposed system has satisfactory output voltage and frequency under different input voltages.
