This paper presents the study of a variable speed wind energy conversion system (WECS) using a Wound Field Synchronous Generator (WFSG) based on a Fuzzy sliding mode control (FSMC) applied to achieve control of active and reactive powers exchanged between the stator of the WFSG and the grid to ensure a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) of a wind energy conversion system. However the principal drawback of the sliding mode, is the chattering effect which characterized by torque ripple, this phenomena is undesirable and harmful for the machines, it generates noises and additional forces of torsion on the machine shaft. A direct fuzzy logic controller is designed and the sliding mode controller is added to compensate the fuzzy approximation errors. The simulation results clearly indicate the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method, in terms of convergence, time and precision.

In this article, we present a new method of simultaneously increasing the phase quantity and regulating the rectified voltage for two 12-phase high-power rectifiers operating at a common load. Self-excited voltage inverters separately form the necessary voltages for voltage regulation and for increasing the phase quantity. The formed voltage is input with the help of a common booster transformer. Separating the inverters functions and using the common booster transformer makes it possible to reduce the installed power of the equipment significantly compared to similar circuits when the regulation range of the rectified voltage is up to 5%. Calculations show that the inverter power for increasing the phase quantity is about 3% of the rectifier power. The circuit was modeled in MatLab/Simulink and the electromagnetic processes in the rectifier were studied. The proposed method makes it possible to reduce the total harmonic distortion of the network current and the pulsation coefficient of the rectified voltage to the values typical for 24-phase rectifiers.

Today, the transportation sector has undergone a change from conventional vehicle to hybrid electric vehicle especially land-based with the aim to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. However, water transportation is also one of the contributors of excessive use of fuel and emissions. Therefore, water transport needs changes as it has been done on land transport, especially cars. In this paper, plug in hybrid electric recreational boat (PHERB) is introduced. PHERB is a special model because in PHERB powertrain configuration, it only needed one EM compared to existing configuration with energy management strategy (EMS). In this work, the optimal EMS for PHERB are presented via genetic algorithm (GA). To estimate the fuel economy and emissions, the model of PHERB is employed numerically in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment with a special EMS using Kuala Terengganu (KT) river driving cycle. Simulation result of PHERB optimization using GA improve to 15% for KT river driving cycles without violating the PHERB performance.

The verification method of a metering system varies from one site to another, depending on the available equipment and the calibration equipment measuring instruments installed. However, the effectiveness of the verification and control (primary or periodic) requires a good control system and calibration process. This paper focuses on the errors of measuring instruments in a dynamic system of metering fluids and respect of the tolerance defined by the international standards and recommendations. In a first step, we describe the experimental methodology adopted for evaluating the effectiveness of different systems Dynamic count. Next we will compare the results of measurements between the simulated values and the values read from the computer. Finally, we conclude on the validity of the instruments according to the errors identified and the errors.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v3i4.4979

This paper deals with various power issues such as voltage sag, swell, harmonics, and surges using static synchronous compensator (STATCOM).The conventional controller suffers from uncertain parameters and non-linear qualities. However they are computationally inefficient extending to optimize the fuzzy controller (FC) parameters, since they exhaustively search the optimal values to optimize the objective functions. To overcome this drawback, a genetic algorithm (GA) based Fuzzy controller parameter optimization is presented in this paper. The GA algorithm is used to find the optimal fuzzy parameters for minimizing the objective functions. The feasibility of the proposed GA technique for distribution systems to improve the sag and total harmonic distortion (THD) as major power quality indices in sensitive loads at fault conditions has been simulated and tested. Therefore, the multi-objective optimization algorithm is considered in order to attain a better performance in solving the related problems.

In this paper, three different impedance source inverters: Z-source inverter, EZ- source inverter, TZ-Source for wind energy conversion system (WECS) were investigated. Total output power and THD of each of these systems are calculated. The proposed system can boost the output voltage effectively when the low output voltage of the generator is available at low wind speed. This system has higher performance, less components, increased efficiency and reduced cost. These features make the proposed TZSI based system suitable for the wind conversion systems. MATLAB simulink model for wind generator system is developed and simulation studies are successfully performed. The simulation is done using MATLAB and the simulation results are presented. This comparison shows that the TZ-source inverter is very promising for wind energy conversion system.

Over recent years the photovoltaic technology has obtained significant development, especially in building integrated photovoltaic thermal (BIPVT) system. Photovoltaic thermal (PVT) air collectors are advantageous because of their efficiency. Various studies have been conducted to determine the ideal parameters of PVT air collectors. Few theoretical approach models of PVT air collector systems were used to help detect occurrences in a PVT collector system and calculate the optimal parameters. The heat transfer and energy balance of PVT air collectors were analysed and reviewed based on the model, quantity of cover, channels and forms of the collector. A mathematical model was developed to describe actual working situations and to examine new shut PVT collectors. The first law of thermodynamics is the principal equation in the model. Different analysis methods were utilised to evaluate PVT performances, which are generally based on energy and exergy analyses. This review focuses on theoretical approach model of single-pass PVT air collector.

Polyphase induction motor, when started from rest with full voltage impressed, the starting current is 5 to 8 or more times the rated current. The large line current drawn by such a motor is objectionable because of the possible sharp drop in voltage of the supply circuit and undesired effects upon other connected loads/devices. Accordingly it is customary to start such motors at reduced voltage by using auto transformers, star delta starters etc. This paper deals with a new approach to start poly phase induction motors without using any primary voltage compensators thereby limiting the inrush of starting current. The rotor of the motor is driven at suitable speed in the specified direction of rotation by using crank driving mechanism. Then te rated voltage is applied to the motor. This is enunciated using a case study on a 3- phase, 5hp, NGEF make motor with oscillographic records obtained from the experimentation and is compared with the various starting techniques. In most of the industrial applications, Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is mainly employed due to the reasons like having low maintenance and high efficiency. SRM consists of windings only on its stator, but would not have any windings on rotor thus having very simple construction. The available supply is AC. But AC cannot be directly supplied to SRM when used for air-conditioner application which is employed in this paper. Also power factor in the system needs to be corrected when using a SRM drive. Thus AC supply is fed to power factor correction (PFC) converter which is Buck-Boost converter here in this paper. The output of the PFC converter is fed to SRM through a simple asymmetrical converter. This PFC circuit consists of a simple diode bridge rectifier with Buck-Boost DC-DC converter. A suitable control circuit was proposed to control the input power factor under various loading conditions. This paper gives analysis of SRM drive for air-conditioner application with Buck-Boost converter based PFC circuit. A Matlab/simulink based model is developed and simulation results are presented. Simulation is carried out for different speed response.

This paper presents combinations of level shifted pulse-width modulation algorithm with conventional discontinuous pulse-width modulation methods for cascaded multilevel inverters. In the proposed DPWM a zero sequence signal is injected in sinusoidal reference signal to generate various modulators with easier implementation. The analysis four various control strategies namely Common Carrier (CC), Inverted Carrier (IC), Phase Shifted (PS) and Inverted Phase Shift (IPS) for cascaded multilevel inverter fed induction motor drive has been illustrated. To validate the proposed work experimental tests has been carried out using dSPACE controller. Experimental study proves that using proposed algorithms reduction in common-mode voltage with fewer harmonics along with reduced switching loss for a cascaded multilevel inverter fed motor drive has been achieved.
