Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to observe and analize the  students’ speaking ability ini speaking class by using scoring rubric. This research was field research which observed the English Department students of Muhammadiyah Aceh University in delivering idea based on what the lecturer asked. The observation sheet was used to get data about the students’ speaking ability based on scoring rubric and the questionnaire sheet shared to get information about their problems and how they solve them. 15 students of IV semester of speaking class taken as the sample. They were taken through random sampling. From the result, there was only one student who got perfect score, and the rest were categorized as good score, average and poor.  The problems that the students faced in speaking class were less confidence, anxiety, lack of vocabulary and problems in grammar ability. For those reasons, they tried to motivate themselves to be better, got enough practice, and memorized English vocabulary.

Abstract

This study was designed to obtain a multiple choice type test instrument that conforms to the standard consist of reliability. This research was conducted from February to April 2014. The method used was qualitative descriptive with multiple choice test form used as many as 100 test items. Research subjects in this study as many as 43 students. The test is compiled and has been validated by a team of experts then given to the subject of research, then the data obtained analyzed reliability value. The results showed that the number of test items that have been valid as much as 70 test items and has high category reliability (rxx = 0.75). From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the test items developed have met the criteria of a good test, it is based on the category in the stage that has been implemented has been fulfilled all the conditions. The concept of osmosis, diffusion and cell organelle, especially mitochondria and chloroplasts are the most concepts of test items to be discarded.

Abstract

Talking about curriculum, since 1954 there have been several changes implemented in Indonesian schools with different emphases and purposes, but at least they share one common objective—to improve the quality of learning process in Indonesian education. However, the constraint is still on the result of the implementation of those curricula themselves—the objectives were not optimally achieved. Of course, there are many factors that might affect. One factor that might affect is the understanding of teachers in interpreting the message carried by the curriculum. This article discusses the nature of the newly implemented curriculum—Competency-Based Curriculum, particularly on the nature of English subject. The discussion involves philosophical theoretical bases of English CBC, the characteristics of English curriculum, syllabus development, teaching, and learning assessment, and changes and challenges associated and with the implementation of the English CBC. By having a clear understanding of this curriculum, hopefully, teachers can interpret what the curriculum demands and try to implement it optimally so that the objectives can be successfully achieved.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of teacher competence on teacher performance. In this research using quantitative approach with influence test method. The number of samples is 160 teachers in 16 schools of elementary school, junior high school, and SMK selected randomly in Jakarta. The sampling of this research using cluster sampling method technique. In this study using questionnaires instrument filled by teachers as research data. The data collected on this research variable is analyzed by using regression analysis technique. The conclusions of this study are (1) there is a significant, strong and positive impact on teachers' pedagogic competencies on teacher performance, and (2) there is a significant, strong and positive impact of teacher professional competence on teacher performance..

Abstract

Along with the rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT), the need for an ICT-based concept and mechanism of teaching and learning becomes inevitable. The concept then known as e-learning is bringing the influence of the process of transformation of conventional education into digital form, both content, and system. On the other hand, information technology has become the world's largest computer network, which works well if it is supported by computer devices with good software and with well-trained teachers. Using the internet with all the facilities will make it easy to access various information for education that can directly improve students' knowledge for their success in learning. Likewise in Permendiknas Number 22 of 2006 point, 2 stated that one of the objectives of physics is to develop science and technology. One of the developments of science and technology is the availability of professional teachers. With the results of this study are 1) Application of web-based learning on temperature and caloric materials can improve the concept understanding among students significantly compared with conventional learning methods. 2) The use of web-based technology in the learning process of temperature and heat material can significantly increase students' KGS compared to conventional learning methods. 3) Students give a very positive response to the implementation of web-based learning on temperature and heat materials.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to know and to evaluate the process of Chemistry learning activities in high school. The research conducted on teachers (educators), students at SMA Negeri 1 Lueng Putu by giving questionnaires, observations and interviews. Learning is the most basic activity in the school so that the success or failure of the achievement of educational goals depends on how the learning process. It is expected to be a serious and maximum performance and supported by completing the inadequate infrastructure facilities. Based on the result of the students’ questionnaire, it found that the learning process of Chemistry activity was still not maximal. The population was all the students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Lueng Putu which amounted to 3 classes. The sample used in this study was only 2 classes, where each class consisted of 40 students. Based on the result of questionnaire tabulation, it found that the learning process that was applied by teacher (educator) was 81,16% (good), and how the students’ learning was 66,78% (enough). Based on the results of observations on the schools, it found that the laboratories and libraries are not functioning. The results of interviews on teachers stated the use of less than the maximum media and student learning equipment is less complete. By looking at the learning process in schools, especially Chemistry less than the maximum, so it is needed to be improved to achieve the good results.

Abstract

The research was conducted in order to know the effectiveness of using Jigsaw technique in improving students’ ability in writing narrative text. The aims of this research were to what extent the effectiveness of Jigsaw technique in improving students’ ability in writing narrative and to find out the students’ responses about the application of Jigsaw technique in the learning process.  This research used Pre-Experimental research and used one group pretest-posttest. Test and questionnaire were utilized as the research instruments. The result of this research indicated that the mean score of the students in pretest before they were taught using the Jigsaw technique was 40,5. While the mean score of the students in writing narrative text after they were taught using the Jigsaw technique was 69,75. The t-score was 15,41 meanwhile, t-table with significant level 5% was 2,093. It meant that the t-score was higher than the t-table. From this result shown, Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that using the Jigsaw technique is effective to improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text.
