This may include articles that report results of quantitative or qualitative research studies. Conceptual Idea, publishes articles conceptually relevant to advancing the practice of music and learning, present theories of music, models, or philosophical position, etc. Articles may draw upon theory/or material developed in educational practice that recognize and address a wide range of pedagogical approach that would interest members from a variety of countries and teaching setting, including activities and art materials to help internationalize art curricula.

Abstract

Brigade or more known as the Javanese term of the bregada in Surakarta Kasunanan Palace has always experienced shifts or even form changing and function in the post-independence period of Indonesia. Even though there has been a shift in form and function, the Bregada of the Kasunanan Surakarta palace is still maintaining its existence. This study aims to describe the form and function shifting process of the bregada in Kasunanan Surakarta palace, especially the bregada of the music corps unitary. The focus discussed in this paper include: (1) Function shifting of the Kasunanan Surakarta Palace music corps, (2) repertoires songs changing that played by the Surakarta Kasunanan Palace music corps from the pre-independence to the Indonesian post-independence period, and (3) performance form changing of the Kasunanan Surakarta Palace music corps. This research data uses a literature review from historical records and ancient manuscripts, as well as in-depth interviews with key informants. Based on the study results, the function shifting of the music corps bregada and the songs that were played were visible from the function of war music turning into traditional and cultural activities, especially referring to the function as performing arts and tourism activists, that is the performance of a military music parade for the advancement of tourism in the Solo city, Central Java.

Abstract

Djiwoastra is a folk metal band from Surakarta that has succeeded in combining two genres of music, namely metal and tradisional indonesian music. The song Yadapati Tiwikrama contains the idiomatic indonesian archipelago, taking the theme of the history of the maritime wars in 7th century. This research was qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicated that there was aplication of ideas that contain idiomatic archipelagoes through musical compositions and concepts in the song Yadapati Tiwikrama in the form of : 1) Interpretation of the superiority of the Javanese maritime troops in the invasion of the Po Nagar in the 7th century through motifs, intervals, and textures on musical compositions, 2) there are cultural elements contained in the song, such as : a) traditional art elements in the form of Balinese Bale Ganjur Bali Instrument, b) language elements by the pronunciation of Balinese incantation that adopt the idea of suluk Sidakarya, c) religious elements by the concept of the religion system of the God of the ocean.

Abstract

Musafir Isfanhari is one of the senior music artists in East Java. The man known as the arranger and composer has created many works of music. One of Isfanhari's phenomenal musical works is the song Keroncong Keluarga Berencana . The purpose of this research is to examine the creative process of creating keroncong KB song works by Musafir Isfanhari. Research uses descriptive qualitative methods using phenomenological approaches. The data collection techniques in this study use interview, observation and documentation techniques. The results and highlights in this article outline Isfanhari's biography, the work and creative process of the creation of the song Keroncong Keluarga Berencana. Discussion of the creative process based on the John Livingston category among others; (1) the process of filling a well, or filling the mind with materials and experiences related to the phenomenon of promoting Keluarga Berencana programs. (2) Sudden vision through suggestion based on distraction or interference from the outside that affects the suggestions of Isfanhari's mind in making lyrics and melodies. (3) Completion of the work, which contains the process of meeting with O.K Getah Jaya, the training process to introduce the song Keroncong KB to the general public. The conclusion in this study is that the process of creating art, apart from containing elements of art or musicals, can also be associated with several other elements such as psychological theory and the concept of creativity.

Abstract

Learning methods used to teach in online classes provide solutions so students can continue to understand the material presented, have appreciation and innovate in participating in teaching and learning activities. The project based learning method is a learning method that involves a project or activity as a medium in the learning process. This method focuses on student activities to be able to understand a concept and principle by conducting in-depth research on a problem and finding relevant solutions. This learning method makes students active, independent in learning, can apply the knowledge they already have, practice various thinking skills, attitudes, and concrete skills. Meanwhile, for complex problems, learning is required through investigation, collaboration and experimentation in making a project, as well as integrating various subjects (materials) in learning. Teachers at Regina Pacis Junior High School Surakarta use project based learning methods in their learning. The teachers at the junior high school combined 3 lessons to make one project. The research method used in this study is qualitative with descriptive exposure. The research subjects were music teachers at Regina Pacis Junior High School, Surakarta. The results of data collection using observation, interview, documentation, and data analysis techniques. The data analysis technique is divided into three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of interviews and observations that have been collected include documentation, pictures, photos, videos, field notes, personal notes, and other documents after being studied, examined and researched and then reduced to an abstraction.

Abstract

Music is the expression of ideas, thoughts and feelings of the creator through the arrangement of tones or sounds to produce sound compositions in the form of songs. The purpose of this study was to determine the perception of adolescents on the role of music. The method/approach used in this study is a survey method using a questionnaire to 63 Indonesian teenagers with an age range of 10-24 years. The results showed that 45.3% of teenagers chose the pop genre as their favorite music genre to listen to and the majority of teenagers thought that pop genre music had a role as friends with activities with a percentage of 26.9%. Then 50% of teenagers' moods can be influenced by music. In conclusion, music has a very broad role in the lives of teenagers.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the choral learning at SMK Negeri 2 Kasihan, which was initially carried out with face-to-face learning using the drill and demonstration method, was shifted to online learning using the demonstration method. This research was conducted to find out, analyze and describe the implementation of online choir learning with the demonstration method at SMK Negeri 2 Kasihan. This study used a qualitative descriptive research method with a pedagogical approach. The sources of research data were obtained from the stages of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction techniques (data reduction), data presentation (data display), and data verification or drawing conclusions. The data validity technique used is technical triangulation, source triangulation, and time triangulation. The location of research was carried out at SMK Negeri 2 Kasihan in Bantul located at Jl. PG. Madukismo, Jomegatan, Ngestiharjo, Kasihan Sub-District, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). The results show that the process of implementing choir learning was carried out using 3 (three) learning applications, namely the Google Classroom application as a medium for delivering material in the form of theory, Google Meet and Zoom Meeting as a medium for remote meetings via video conference.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on various sectors of the creative industry, especially in the performing arts. The prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused activities in the performing arts sector such as performing arts and music concerts which are usually held regularly to be unable to run. To maintain its existence, O. K Tjong Young Gita Citra Alam held a virtual keroncong music performance through social media platforms. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe the use of social media platforms in organizing virtual keroncong music performances as an effort to maintain the existence and media promotion of musical works. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques were done through observation, interviews, and document studies. Triangulation was carried out to test the validity of the data obtained before being analyzed using the stages of data collection, data presentation, data reduction, and conclusions. The results show that O. K Tjong Young Gita Citra Alam uses social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram as a medium to organize virtual music performances as a promotion and introduces works and maintains their existence. Social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram are very effective, practical, and efficient promotional media because information uploaded through YouTube and Instagram accounts can be conveyed easily and can be reached and accessed quickly and easily by people around the world using smartphones, laptops, and computers connected to the internet.

Abstract

SMP Negeri 1 Karangmoncol in Purbalingga Regency is the only junior high school in Purbalingga that implements keroncong extracurricular activities. The purpose of implementing the keroncong extracurricular is introduce keroncong music to students. The problem in this research is how the keroncong music extracurricular learning method in SMP Negeri 1 Karangmoncol. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data were obtained through interviews, qualitative observation, and documentation. The results show that (1) there are five methods used by the keroncong extracurricular teacher in the keroncong extracurricular learning process, five of which were the lecture method, the discussion method, the question and answer method, the peer tutoring method, and the drill method; (2) From the five methods, it is found that the drill method is the most frequently used in the learning process. It is because the keroncong extracurricular requires more psychomotor skills from students to be more skilled and fluent in playing keroncong musical instruments.

Abstract

Traditional art through music, dance and even traditional rituals becomes a symbol and identity of the community because it is a reflection of collective thoughts and also regional solidarity. Kebalai is a dance danced by the people of Rote and is very famous. The kebalai does not only contain dances but also songs in the form of rhymes which are performed together in every event, from big events such as when. The poetry uses the Rote regional language and the meaning of each song is different. This makes researchers interested in looking at oral literature through the songs from the balai and efforts to document the meaning of the poem from the kebalai entitled "Susue Lain" which means brotherly love. This study uses a hermeneutic study according to Ricoeur. The research method uses qualitative methods and literature studies, data collection techniques. Data collection in this study is by observing and unstructured interviews. The results of the Kebalai research are a dance that is often danced together by the people of Rote, in every event or activity that exists. The conclusion in this study is that Kebalai is a performing art, which in the way of interpreting it uses poetry to convey messages.

Abstract

Researchers conducted a case study on reading while listening music in Universitas Negeri Semarang students. The purpose of this study is to find out and explain what types of music students listen to while reading and to find out and explain how the functions of music that students listen to while reading. This study used Mix Method Research (MMR), which is a research method that combines qualitative and quantitative methods with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques used in this study were questionnaires and interviews. Data validity uses source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the types of music that can be used as a medium to increase students' reading concentration are popular types of music, and also types of music with the same theme as the reading books they are reading. From the percentage, it can be concluded that music has an influence when it is listened to along with reading activities. The influence felt by respondents when listening to music together with reading activities is that it can make them comfortable, focus, and support the story or book they are reading.
