Journal of English Language Teaching is a journal published by English Language Teaching Study Program of FBS Universitas Negeri Padang. This journal is published three times a year (March, June, and September). The main purpose of this journal is to advance and foster English Language Teaching or education, research, and professionalism in Indonesia. The journal provides research and paper to increase awareness, consideration and analysis of issues in Teaching English as Foreign Language, and also promotes the interchange of ideas, and comparative studies in this field.

This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The purpose of this research is to find out how the teacher incorporate 21st century skills (communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking skills) in English lesson plan, its implementation in the classroom and problems encountered by the teachers in implementing 21st century skills in the classroom. The research participants was the three civil servant English teachers at MTsN 6 Agam. The instrumentations of this research were lesson plan guide, observation guide and interview guide. This research showed that 21st century skills (communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking skills) were incorporated into lesson plans made by the three English teachers. Learning activities were well designed to promote students' ability to communicate, collaborate, be creative and think critically. Meanwhile, 21st century skills were implemented in the classroom; however, the application of collaboration skills had not been fully implemented due to several problems faced by the teacher especially in teaching duration. The other problems were a lack of school facilities, lesson density and students' unfamiliarity towards English subject especially for students’ class VII and VIII.

This research was intended to analyze the most types of grammatical errors in giving explanation made by Teacher Professional Education Program Students (PPG). This research is descriptive research. It involved observing and describing the behaviour of a subject, also using the written data from teaching material of the students without influencing it in any way. The subjects of this research were 33 students from 1 class of Teacher Professional Education Program Students by using random sampling technique. The techniques of data collection were classroom observation-video recordings and written explanation from Teaching material of students. The findings of this research are the most type of grammatical errors in giving explanation made by Teacher Professional Education Program Students is omission, with 62 errors (47% of the total errors).

The new regulation in curriculum 2013 required senior high schools students to choose a compulsory subject that is generally known as elective course. One of all compulsory subjects in elective course is English elective class. Elective course are also implemented in every senior high schools in Indonesia including rural senior high schools. There are some obstacles to learning English in rural areas. Hence, the researcher is interested to research rural Senior High School students' attitudes toward literature in English. This study was descriptive qualitative research. The participants of this research were 22-second grade students as representative of Social Science class in second grade in SMA N 1 Batipuh. The instrumentations of this research are collected from questionnaire and interview. As for the points to the students, namely the favorite genre of literature, benefits of learning literature, topic preferences, the use of language in the classroom, and also the learning obstacles in rural senior high schools. The findings of this research showed that rural students have a positive attitude towards literature in English.

Feedback is the teacher's comments on the results of student work. The feedback can be written on the work or oral feedback, directly to the student concerned. There are many types of oral and written feedback and each type has a different function. This research aims to analyze the types of oral and written feedback of the English teachers in the teaching and learning process in SMP N 1Enam Lingkung. This research is descriptive research. The subjects of this research were 3 teachers selected by using the total sampling technique. The technique of data collection was classroom observation-video recording and written students’ assignments. The findings of this research are the most type of feedback used by the teachers in the teaching and learning process in SMP N 1 Enam Lingkung is evaluative feedback, with 82 feedback (53,94% of the total feedback). The second finding of the most type of written feedback used by teachers in students’ written assignments is direct feedback, with 80% of total feedback.

This research is quasi-experimental research. The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of using task-based language teaching on students’ reading comprehension at SMAN 1 Bangkinang Kota. The research sample was 36 students of class X Mipa 1 as the experimental class and 36 students of class X Mipa 3 as the control class. The instrument of this research was reading test that was conducted into two tests, pre-test and post-test. The instrumentation was created into 20 multiple questions. Based on the data analysis by using Paired Sample T-test in SPSS 23 for windows, the mean of pre-test score in the experimental class was 51.2 while the mean of post-test score in experimental class was 81.2. It can be concluded that the students’ who are taught by using task-based language teaching as teaching method are better than students who are taught by using conventional method. The significance of the test is 0.000 which is lower than the significance level that is 0.05 with 5% of degree. Moreover, it is also found that the students’ score is improving especially for the students in the experimental class which gained 30.0 of their average score.

Abstract They are still teachers who do not know the effectiveness of wait-time 1 in EFL classes, especially at junior high school in Padang. The purpose of this study aims to observe how the teacher's wait-time 1 implementation in the classroom and also what are the teacher's obstacles in implementing wait-time 1 in the classroom using stimulated recall interview (SRI). The participants of this study were 18 teachers at junior high school in Padang. The findings show that the average wait-time for 1 teacher at junior high school in Padang is 3.49 seconds, besides that the study also found that the wait-time for 1 teacher with English questions is longer than Indonesian. The study also found that the obstacles to implementing wait-time 1 came from the teachers themselves. Key words: wait-time 1, obtacles, stimulated recall interview

This research was aimed to find out the students’accuracy in translating positive politeness markers in the novel “Dilan 1990” at third year students of English Department of Universitas Negeri Padang. The subject of this research was the third year students of English department of Universitas Negeri Padang. The focus is the students’ accuracy in translating positive politeness markers. This research is qualitative descriptive study. Out of 60 students, 35% of them were chosen to be the sample by using cluster random sampling. The data were collected by using test. The results of this research show the students’ accuracy was (76%). Related to the result found, the students’ accuracy in translating positive politeness markers was good. The difficulty in translation cannot be seen from the type of strategy used only, but also many aspects affect the result of students’ translation. Based on the research that the author did, students need to know about the context and situation appear in each utterance. The most commonly problems that the students did in their translation process is they did not pay attention to the whole context. There were also some changes in the strategy used in politeness. It is shown by the utterances strategy change in their translation product. The understanding politeness strategy gives an advantage for the students in producing accurate translation product.

During COVID-19 pandemic, many schools are required to conduct distance learning or online learning. Google classroom is one of the learning media that can be used during a pandemic. The application can be a medium for learning English in various schools. It can be a communication tool for students and teachers during online learning activities. This study aims to see and analyze how students' perceptions and motivations in learning English during the Covid-19 pandemic. As well as measuring the positive or negative perceptions of students and the level of student motivation. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative. the instrument of this research were the questionnaires and interview. The questionnaire containing 73 items was distributed to 235 students in order to get data. The researcher found that students had a positive perception of google classroom as an online learning medium with a mean of 2.64.However, in its use in English skills lessons, students have negative perceptions with a mean of 2,47. In addition, the researchers also found that students are less motivated to learn English when using Google Classroom with a mean of 2.39. in conclusion, although students have a positive perception of google classroom in learning English, students are still less motivated to learn by using google classroom.

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 created new changes in education system in Indonesia. Education is demanded to fulfill standardization. The students are also demanded to have good ability in reading comprehension. This study is aimed to find out the level of the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text by using Barrett’s taxonomy in SMAN 1 Lubuk Alung. The population was the eleventh grade students in academic year 2021/2022 who have learned narrative text in tenth grade with the total 359 students. Based on the population, the sample of this research is two classes consisted of 80 students selected using cluster random sampling. This research is descriptive quantitative research and used test and questionnaire as the instruments. This research found that the mean of the students’ score was 64.525 and it was categorized in good category. Besides that, the students have good ability in answering the questions in form of appreciation level. This study also found that students tent to have difficulty in answering questions in form of evaluation level.

The purpose of this study was to analyze students' perception of online learning in micro-teaching class at English department of UNP. The sort of study that will use a survey approach to perform quantitative descriptive research. The population in this study were all students of the 2018 English Department UNP entrance year. This study uses a proportional random sampling technique, proportional random sampling is a sampling technique where all members have the same opportunity to be sampled according to their proportions, large or small population. From the slovin formula, it can be seen that 105 students will be sampled in this research by distributing questionnaires using a Likert scale. In addition, the data obtained were described, then a description of the research results was carried out using SPSS and the categorization based on the Mean and Standard Deviation.
