Abstract

This study examines the tendency in schools of theology of the Tafsir by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, especially in anthropomorphism, khalq al-Qur`an and ru`yatullah. This study is a library research, and the primary data is the Tafsir by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of  the Republic of  Indonesia that was published in 1996. Meanwhile, the secondary data is the works of the rational school of theology (Mu’tazila and Māturīdī Samarkand) and the traditional school of theology (Ashʿarī and Māturīdī Bukhara). After studying the sources above, it was found a number of verses of the Qur’an were used as naqli views by rational and traditional scholars, and then they explained their interpretation according to this Tafsir. Furthermore, a comparative interpretation analysis is carried out by applying the interpretation of the rational and traditional schools of theology to draw a conclusion about the school of theology in this Tafsir. The finding shows that the interpretation of anthropomorphic verses in this Tafsir is in line with Ashʿarīyah and Māturīdīyah Samarkand Beliefs. Hence, the Al-Qur’an is qadim (ancient or old), and God can be seen with the eyes of the believer in the hereafter.

Abstract

Islamic micro-financial institutions (LKMS) provide services for micro businesses in the form of deposits, financing, and social assistance as the main activities. The COVID-19 pandemic engenders an adverse impact, breeding members’ inabilities to measure up to their duties. The inabilities are regretted as LKMS should have also been able to assist its members in sustaining as a form of social responsibility. The research aims to prove paradoxes in business and social performance. We applied a descriptive quantitative approach to a secondary data analysis of business and social performance reports during the COVID-19 pandemic until 2021. The research population covered 154 members of the Islamic cooperative parent, and the samples were 51 LKMS in the Islamic cooperative center. Conclusions were drawn from data analysis using stakeholder and stewardship theories. The results demonstrated that the COVID-19 pandemic incurred negative impacts, i.e., a decreased business performance of LKMS of 8.4% on average for two years. Meanwhile, another finding exhibited an increase in social performance by 27%. Based on the data, we could argue that a decrease in LKMS business performance bred an increase in social performance.

Abstract

America was a big reputation as a melt pot for many nations with various backgrounds to live together since it could unite its people as one nation, including different religious groups or races. American Jews and Muslims belong to an American society that has co-existed for centuries. The twin towers collapse on September 11, 2011 has opened a very intensive dialog space between Muslim scholars and non-Muslims in America. In that situation, various scholarly Muslim forms of appreciation arise slowly towards other religious communities or the Jews. The commonalities between Jews and Muslims contribute significantly in making harmony among their followers. However, this paper insists that American values were the main factor in uniting Jews and Muslims in the United States
